Chapter 463: Special Reward

"I-It’s Elder Ru Qi... She’s an Elder in my sect," Yi Chen answered and was about to tell his clan’s name as well, but realised the very next moment that there was no need to.

"Ru Qi?! Huhuhu, so that’s how it is.... So, you had been secretly nurturing such a talent behind my back all this while..." Elder Tao’s serious countenance turned mischievous the moment he heard Yi Chen’s words, and a wide grin appeared on his face.

"???"

Yi Chen couldn’t help but stare at the old man with his mouth lightly ajar, finding it difficult to believe that the person in front of him was the same one he had met inside the testing hall.

Cough! Cough!

Clearing his throat, the very next moment Elder Tao regulated his mood and changed the topic, "Anyways, congratulations on successfully becoming a Pill Apprentice. Now you are officially a part of our Supreme Pill Forging Guild."

"Thank you, Elder Tao," Yi Chen bowed slightly and said with an expectant smile evident on his face.

’Since I’ve shown such great results, shouldn’t I be given some sort of special privilege?’

His face clearly conveyed his thoughts, which only made Elder Tao smile in an amused manner.

"Hahaha, I know what you want, so here it is," Elder Tao said with a knowing smile as his storage ring glimmered the very next moment.

’I knew it!’ Yi Chen exclaimed with an expectant smile as an item finally appeared in Elder Tao’s hands.

"Here it is, our guild’s robes." Elder Tao stretched his hands towards Yi Chen, placing the greyish-black robes in his hands the very next moment.

"???"

Tilting his head down, Yi Chen confirmed that the item in his hands was truly what he had just heard.

"What? Is this not what you’ve been waiting for? After wearing these robes, you’ll officially be able to represent our Supreme Pill Forging Guild wherever you want to. Just what can be a greater privilege than this?" Elder Tao asked with an amused glimmer in his eyes.

"This..." Yi Chen couldn’t help but make a difficult expression the moment he heard those words.

He was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Refusing Elder Tao’s words would make it known that he clearly didn’t respect the Supreme Pill Forging Guild enough, which may end up inciting Elder Tao’s wrath, and if he were to just accept it, then all the extra effort he had poured into the three tests would go in vain.

Seeing Yi Chen’s contemplative expression as he was trying hard to figure out what his next response should be, Elder Tao finally couldn’t control himself and started laughing out loud, "That helpless expression of yours... hahaha, Elder Ru Qi truly has taken in an amusing student."

Still laughing, Elder Tao patted Yi Chen on the shoulder several times. Each pat felt as though Yi Chen were being struck by a hammer.

’Is he trying to crush me to death...’ Yi Chen thought while absorbing the blows with everything that he had. Luckily, just when his knees were about to buckle from the force, Elder Tao finally stopped his actions and said, looking at Yi Chen, glee apparent on his face.

"Alright, I’ll stop teasing you then."

The moment he said those words, he pulled a scroll out of his storage ring the very next moment and handed it to Yi Chen.

"Here’s the reward for being the best in all three tests today," Elder Tao said with a bright smile on his face.

"This..." A confused frown immediately appeared on Yi Chen’s face when he saw the scroll. It was to the point that he was about to check its status panel the very next instant, but before he could do that, Elder Tao already explained what the item was to him.

"It’s a Tier 3 Pill formulation. Usually, someone who’s just become a Pill Apprentice won’t be able to get their hands on this, as it’s only after one has reached a point where they can successfully refine a High-Grade Immortal Pill by themselves that they can get their hands on such a formulation from the guild."

Elder Tao stated while looking directly into Yi Chen’s eyes and continued, "Make use of this opportunity well and make the most of it. Take guidance from Elder Ru Qi when necessary, and slowly absorb knowledge from this formulation.

There’s no need for you to hurry. With your talent, as long as you don’t slack on your cultivation, becoming a Tier 3 Pill Master in a few decades is inevitable."

As Elder Tao said those words, his hammer-like hand fell on Yi Chen’s back a couple of times, shaking his entire body each time.

Gritting his teeth, Yi Chen controlled his urge to curse out loud while respectfully accepting the scroll from Elder Tao’s hands.

At that same time, a doubt arose in his mind after hearing Elder Tao’s last set of words, as he asked it out the very next moment, "Regarding becoming a Tier 3 Pill Master... from what I had been told at the sect, I would be required to know at least a hundred thousand pill formulations and be able to have a pill efficacy of 90%... are there any more conditions to it?"

"Of course there are." Elder Tao responded instantly, "It’s something which will be explained to you anyway in a while, but since you’ve asked me already, I’ll help you with it."

A smile formed on Elder Tao’s face as he said those words and continued, "Among those hundred thousand formulations which you would know by then, at least ten of them should be ones originally created by you."

"Original Formulations?!" Yi Chen couldn’t help but widen his eyes when he heard those words.

"Indeed. Learning a hundred thousand formulations is much easier when compared to the wall that one keeps crashing into while attempting to create their own pill formulations...

I still remember that it took me almost a decade to be able to create my own working formulation back when I was trying to advance to become a Tier 3 Pill Master..."

As Elder Tao said those words, a nostalgic expression immediately made itself apparent on his face.

At the same time, Elder Tao couldn’t help but realise that with Yi Chen’s talent, he wouldn’t need to go through the arduous and long journey which he had to go through in order to become a Tier 3 Pill Master.

’The younger generation will truly surpass the older one...’ Elder Tao thought with a silent sigh as he looked at Yi Chen, who was still trying to process this new information.
