I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 468: A Question Over Tea

Chapter 468: A Question Over Tea

Seeing Elder Ru Qi’s pale white face under the eerie moonlight, Yi Chen shouted at the top of his lungs before falling back on his butt.

"AH! GHOST!"

Just when he was debating whether to use his Bursting Fire Steps to run as far away as possible or try throwing a fireball at the ghostly figure, he couldn’t help but feel a strong sense of familiarity from the face.

"E-Elder Ru Qi? I-It’s you?" Yi Chen muttered in realisation the very next moment as a gentle breeze caused Elder Ru Qi’s white robes to flutter and a familiar smell of tulips wafted into Yi Chen’s nostrils.

Meanwhile, seeing Yi Chen’s extreme reaction to her earlier smile, Elder Ru Qi’s expression turned frigid the next moment, and while trying to keep as calm an expression as possible, she asked.

"Y-You... did you just mistake me for a ghost?"

As Elder Ru Qi asked that question, she couldn’t help but grow more and more self-conscious about her looks.

Although she was six hundred and seventy years old, her face still resembled that of a middle-aged woman who took good care of herself.

This was not only because of the fact that her ageing had slowed down considerably after reaching the Core Building Stage but also because of the several beauty and herbal products she applied on a regular basis to keep her skin in check.

It was because of these very factors that Yi Chen’s earlier words and reactions stung like hell.

As if sensing that if he didn’t answer this question carefully, then he wouldn’t have a good ending tonight, Yi Chen quickly made an apologetic expression and said, "F-Forgive my rudeness, Elder Ru Qi... I wasn’t expecting to meet you here at all, so I couldn’t help but be taken aback as a result..."

As he said those words, Yi Chen pushed himself up from the ground and greeted Elder Ru Qi the very next moment in an attempt to further defuse the situation.

"Greetings, Elder Ru Qi... Is there something you wanted to tell me personally?" Yi Chen asked while bowing subtly, trying to understand why she had suddenly arrived next to the sect’s entrance this late in the evening.

’Was she curious about my results?’ he thought to himself while waiting for Elder Ru Qi’s response.

However, the response he was expecting never came, leading to an unnerving silence between the two as Elder Ru Qi just stared at Yi Chen’s bowing figure in front of her, with various questions brewing in her mind.

’This...’

Unable to wait any longer, Yi Chen subtly raised his eyes to check up on her, only to meet her cold gaze the very next instant.

"You’re coming with me." Elder Ru Qi took out a palm-sized black tablet the very next moment, which Yi Chen couldn’t help but find familiar.

’This... didn’t Grand Elder Jian also have something similar?’ Yi Chen thought while looking at the transportation artefact, which he had personally experienced a couple of times earlier.

’But where is she taking me?’ Yi Chen was about to voice his thoughts when Elder Ru Qi placed her hand on his shoulder. A moment later, blinding white light filled his vision, accompanied by a familiar sense of vertigo.

"This..."

Yi Chen muttered in confusion the moment his vision recovered, trying to understand just where he had been teleported to this time.

’Is this another peak?’ he thought while looking at the dark clouds far away as winds much colder than earlier ruffled past his ears.

"Welcome to the Seventh Peak," Elder Ru Qi said in an emotionless voice while looking at Yi Chen, who seemed to be in a good state. "Looks like this isn’t your first time experiencing a teleportation artefact.

"Well... I did experience it a couple of times," Yi Chen answered with an embarrassed smile. Elder Ru Qi merely nodded and pointed towards a large wooden villa a few metres away.

"That’s my residence over there. Let’s go." With that said, she took the lead and started making her way towards the building.

’Just why would she bring me all the way here...’ Yi Chen thought momentarily with a confused expression before rushing to keep up with her.

The villa was already lit with luminous stones, making the area around it bright enough for anyone to make their way towards it.

Reaching the villa’s entrance, Elder Ru Qi pushed open the mesh door while gesturing for Yi Chen to follow her inside.

"Welcome back, Elder Ru Qi." An elderly maid who had been wiping the dining table said the very next moment.

"Yes." Elder Ru Qi nodded at her and said, "Bring two cups of tea to the living room."

The maid nodded and soon went to the kitchen to make preparations. Meanwhile, Elder Ru Qi gestured Yi Chen towards the living room and said, "Come, take a seat."

A few minutes later.

Elder Ru Qi and Yi Chen were sitting facing each other in the living room, with a meter-long centre table separating the two of them.

’This... why hasn’t she said anything until now?’ Yi Chen thought while fidgeting with his fingers, trying his best to avoid meeting Elder Ru Qi’s steely gaze.

’Is she still angry that I thought she was a ghost earlier?’ Yi Chen thought to himself, unable to understand the reason behind this uncomfortable situation.

He could easily start a conversation, but the apprehension within him prevented him from doing so, which also became the very reason the situation turned more and more uncomfortable for him.

It was right then that the maid came in with a tray in her hand as the fragrance of tea pervaded the air.

Making her way towards them, she soon served the tea to both Yi Chen and Elder Ru Qi.

"Thank you..." Yi Chen thanked her with a warm expression while taking the cup from the tray. While at it, he couldn’t help but exclaim in his mind, ’Great timing!’

Thanks to her entry, the situation no longer felt as uncomfortable as before.

Elder Ru Qi nodded at the maid a second later before taking a sip from her cup. Nodding in satisfaction, she gestured for Yi Chen to take a sip. "Try it; it’s pretty well made."

"Y-Yes..."

Hearing Elder Ru Qi’s words, Yi Chen answered with a forced smile and followed her example by taking a small sip from the cup.

However, just as the tea touched his lips, Elder Ru Qi suddenly narrowed her eyes.

"So, how come you were able to refine a pill at 55% efficacy?"

Cough! Cough! Cough!

Yi Chen almost burnt his tongue because of the sudden question, taking several breaths to cool it down.

’Who the hell asks questions in such a manner?!’ he cursed in his mind while trying hard not to let his thoughts show on his face.

"T-The tea’s too hot... hahaha," he said in an embarrassed manner the very next moment, feeling Elder Ru Qi’s penetrating eyes on him.

"You’ve still not answered my question..." Elder Ru Qi’s cold voice rang out.
