Chapter 1209: Malicious Spirit
Two more figures stood beside the Snake King. One was a human cultivator, refined and elegant in bearing. The other had already revealed his true form, the Cold Lizard.
One middle-stage Spiritual Infant cultivator, and two Transformation Realm great demons.
Among them, Cold Lizard had the lowest cultivation, only at the early stage of the Transformation Realm.
Seeing this, Qin Sang immediately understood that these two were the helpers the Snake King had mentioned before. There were the human cultivator surnamed Lu and Cold Lizard, who was likely the one who had discovered the ancient demon’s cave dwelling.
Even with the three of them joining forces, they were actually at a severe disadvantage. They were being besieged, unable to break free for a long time, and had already fallen into the lower hand. Cold Lizard had even been forced to reveal his true form.
Qin Sang was greatly shocked. He stopped at a distance to observe and quickly looked toward their opponents.
There were two people and one strange entity participating in the siege. These two were undoubtedly Spiritual Infant cultivators of Sin Abyss.
Although Qin Sang had never seen them in person, he had read about them before. He recognized one as a black-robed cultivator surnamed Ma, and the other as a gray-robed elder known as Jiang Chenzi. Both were long-renowned Spiritual Infant grandmasters.
Each of them controlled a peculiar banner. Yet both were only at the early stage of the Spiritual Infant realm, and they were fewer in number. The Snake King’s side was clearly stronger. They should not have been trapped like this.
However, the Snake King’s true opponent was not them, but that strange entity. Qin Sang found it strange because it was the first time he had seen such a being.
It appeared as a massive azure python, enormous in size. Its tail coiled beneath it while its upper body stood upright, towering hundreds of zhang high. Yet its form was as illusory as a soul, like a snake spirit.
Compared to it, even the Snake King, also a snake demon, seemed as insignificant as an ant.
This snake spirit was neither human nor demon. Its eyes shone like stars, yet were filled with intense resentment, rage, and madness. Every negative emotion was concentrated within it, without the slightest trace of reason.
It did not resemble a living being, but rather a malicious spirit that knew only slaughter and destruction.
Even from afar, merely meeting its gaze made Qin Sang inwardly shudder. It was hard to imagine how such a spirit, one that seemed to hate everything in existence, had come into being.
He did not know what the Snake King and the others had done to enrage it. The malicious spirit focused solely on attacking them, completely ignoring the two from Sin Abyss.
"Blood Lake!" From within the Primordial Unity Ring, the fat chicken let out a startled cry, as though he had seen something unbelievable.
Hearing this, Qin Sang shifted his gaze and noticed that behind the battlefield, the endless gloomy clouds had split apart. Dense blood-red light shone through, sending a chill down his spine.
The source of the blood-red light was a vast lake, its waters shimmering with a strange crimson hue.
Blood Lake was perfectly calm, without the slightest ripple. It was unclear whether the malicious spirit had originated from it.
After crying out once, the fat chicken fell silent. Qin Sang had no time to pay attention to him and continued observing the battlefield, his gaze flickering.
He had found the treasure that attracted the Fire Jade Centipede. It was a mass of white metal about the size of a human head, resembling some kind of white copper. Its body seemed to be flowing, not entirely solid.
Its blazing white light was as intense as the sun, making it impossible to look at directly. Qin Sang had never seen such a spiritual material before.
Whether from the Fire Jade Centipede’s reaction or the metal’s appearance, it was clear that this was no ordinary object! Yet that mass of white metal was actually inside the malicious spirit’s body!
Beside it were two more items: a broken stone axe and a piece of blood jade. Both clearly had extraordinary origins and were likely no less valuable than the white metal.
To take these treasures, one would have to attack the malicious spirit, essentially seizing them from its heart.
Roar!
The malicious spirit hated the Snake King and his companions to the core. Seeing that it could not kill these three who had angered it, it became furious, its murderous aura surging toward the heavens.
It opened its massive mouth, and within its roar, a cluster of azure light formed, carrying a destructive aura as it shot forward like lightning.
Seeing the azure light, the Snake King and the others’ expressions changed drastically.
Among them, the Snake King still retained most of his combat strength, though his aura had grown somewhat uneven.
The cultivator surnamed Lu was bleeding from all seven orifices, unable even to wipe the blood from his face. It was clear his injuries were severe.
Cold Lizard’s true form stretched over a dozen zhang. He was a ferocious giant lizard capable of controlling cold qi, yet even so, he appeared insignificant before the snake spirit. Moreover, his cultivation was the weakest. Though he repeatedly spewed cold qi, he could barely manage self-defense.
As the azure light shot toward them, they attempted to evade.
On the side of Sin Abyss, the two Spiritual Infant cultivators saw this and sneered coldly, immediately activating the banners before them.
In an instant, the runes on the banners flared. A vortex appeared on each banner’s surface, and two streams of blood-red light shot out, converging into a torrent in mid-air that slammed toward the Snake King’s group, sealing off their movement.
The two Spiritual Infant cultivators had exceptional control. The torrent targeted only the Snake King and his companions and would not harm the malicious spirit at all.
At first glance, it even seemed as though the malicious spirit was their summoned ally. I had indeed been helping them deal with their enemies.
"Daoist Lu, our Sin Abyss never intended to make an enemy of you. Since you have walked into Abyssal Ruin yourselves and fallen into our trap, do not blame us for being ruthless!" Jiang Chenzi said coldly.
The black-robed cultivator surnamed Ma let out a strange laugh. "Hehe, you outsiders dared to trespass into Abyssal Ruin. That is no different from courting death! This snake spirit must have suffered unimaginable torment in life. Its mind has long been destroyed, leaving only hatred and obsession, turning it into a pure malicious spirit. You angered it, so it will fight you to the death. Even we must proceed cautiously, gathering allies before daring to deal with it. You three were simply unlucky. If not for encountering this spirit, you might really have slipped in unnoticed and taken the treasure."
As they attacked, they mocked the Snake King and his companions in a teasing tone, their expressions completely relaxed.
After all, the malicious spirit would not attack them. They had no need to clash head-on with the Snake King’s group. They only needed to strike at the right moment, cutting off their escape and preventing them from fleeing.
Then they could sit back and wait as the malicious spirit dealt with the Snake King and his companions one by one. They would easily reap the benefits, and afterward deal with the weakened malicious spirit and seize the treasures within its body.
In a sense, they even had to thank the Snake King’s group for delivering the treasure to them and bearing the malicious spirit’s wrath in their stead.
As danger loomed, the three of them had no words to respond to the mockery. They focused entirely on the malicious spirit’s movements, their minds racing as they desperately searched for a way out.
"Cold Lizard!" Daoist Lu shouted.
Cold Lizard opened his mouth and spat out the snow bead.
In an instant, an icy aura spread. Around the bead, heavy snow began to fall, forming a domain of frost. Almost at the same time, Daoist Lu made his move. In his hand was a thumb-sized gourd. With a slight tilt, an endless river poured forth.
The river water flowed into the snowy domain and instantly froze into thick ice, forming a massive sphere around the snow bead. Within the ice sphere, a deep blue light shimmered, mysterious and profound, its extreme cold seeming capable of freezing even the mind.
A Spiritual Infant grandmaster and a Transformation Realm great demon had actually combined their powers in this way.
"Go!" Cold Lizard shouted. The snow bead, still controlled by Cold Lizard, shot straight toward the incoming azure light.
At the same time, Daoist Lu coughed violently, a trace of redness appearing on his face. Coordinating this attack with Cold Lizard had aggravated his injuries.
