Chapter 1267: Fighting Alone

Chapter 1267: Fighting Alone

Old Devil Ye remained determined to have his way.

Qingjun knew that further words were useless. She suddenly hurled out the Fivefold Tower, which descended through the air toward Old Devil Ye!

However, the phantom moved faster than the Fivefold Tower itself and appeared above the cage first.

Old Devil Ye glanced at the white figures, which were still diligently exhaling cold qi at the cage. His black robe billowed as he uttered several incomprehensible syllables. The phantom of the Fivefold Tower seemed to meet immense resistance and could go no farther.

The white figures did not even lift their heads. Their eyes were fixed solely on the cage.

At the same time, just as Old Devil Ye’s true body was about to be overwhelmed by the Fivefold Tower, he suddenly vanished into thin air. His figure reappeared three zhang away, effortlessly escaping the tower’s subjugation.

Before him, two rays of light, one black and one white, had appeared at some unknown moment.

They were two short dagger-axes. One was black, and one was white. These were his true life-bound astras, the Yin-Yang Dagger-Axes.

The Yin-Yang Dagger-Axes shot forth and transformed into two Jiao. The white one was the Yang Dagger-Ax, overwhelming in force, impossible to resist head-on. The black one was the Yin Dagger-Ax, silent and elusive, sinister and vicious.

The white Jiao bared its fangs and claws and lunged at the Fivefold Tower.

Boom! The two supreme treasures collided head-on, without the slightest flourish.

The Fivefold Tower had originally been aimed at Old Devil Ye, but the Yang Dagger-Ax struck it squarely on the central part marked with the character "Fang."

Yet the Yang Dagger-Ax failed to break the Fivefold Tower’s treasure light, and what it struck was not even the true body. The tower merely tilted slightly and paused. Its true form remained completely unharmed.

The Yang Dagger-Ax failed to gain the upper hand. It was even shaken back by the recoil, but it immediately transformed once more into a white Jiao and desperately wrapped itself around the tower.

Jiao phantoms coiled around the Fivefold Tower. For a time, the two astras proved evenly matched.

"Hmm?" Old Devil Ye seemed somewhat surprised.

The Fivefold Tower was no weaker than his Yin-Yang Dagger-Axes. More remarkable still, it was not anyone’s life-bound astra, which meant it could be passed down as a sect’s inherited supreme treasure.

Still, no matter how fine an astra was, its power depended on whether its wielder could truly bring it forth.

The sect master of Yuanshen Sect before him had always kept a low profile. In the previous great battles, Qingjun had gained some fame, but never enough for Old Devil Ye to regard her seriously.

He had sent only the Yang Dagger-Ax to deal with the Fivefold Tower, believing that even if it could not win outright, it would still hold the treasure back with ease. He had not expected things to turn out like this.

Old Devil Ye gave Qingjun a long, probing look, and his surprise deepened. He actually found that he could not see through her!

The title of number one in Beichen Realm might have been spoken by others to flatter him, but Old Devil Ye had always believed himself fully worthy of it. Yet now, there was actually someone he could not read through.

The Fivefold Tower’s performance proved that both he and Tianzheng had underestimated her. It was hard to tell whether she had deliberately concealed her strength in the past, or had only recently encountered some great opportunity and advanced by leaps and bounds.

Even as Old Devil Ye assessed Qingjun, the Yin Dagger-Ax vanished into thin air and appeared in front of her in a flash, stabbing straight at her face.

The Yin Dagger-Ax remained utterly silent, like a black Jiao moving through the darkness.

When her brow was locked onto by the weapon, Qingjun felt a sharp sting and a fierce warning rose in her heart. She whispered an incantation, and a ray of azure light shot from her sleeve.

Suddenly, a phoenix cry rang out. The azure light swelled in the wind and transformed into an Azure Luan.

The Azure Luan looked spirited and majestic, but its appearance differed somewhat from before.

After Qin Sang had obtained the Azure Luan’s blood and essence, he had once displayed the true bearing of a genuine Azure Luan before Qingjun. Drawing from that insight, Qingjun had improved the Azure Luan puppet until its bearing was complete, making it far closer to a true Azure Luan.

However, from the very start of its refinement, Qingjun had planted fire talisman runes within the Azure Luan’s body. It had grown into a Fire Luan, and the accumulated transformation could no longer be reversed. It could not become a Lightning Luan again.

Even so, the Azure Luan puppet had undergone a metamorphosis because of this, and it had also become closer to Qin Sang.

After a clear cry, the Azure Luan twisted its head, locked onto the black Jiao formed from the Yin Dagger-Ax, then spread its wings and extended its claws as it pounced forward.

Bang! Bang! The Yin Dagger-Ax and the Azure Luan clashed for several exchanges in an instant and became entangled in fierce combat.

Having learned his lesson, Old Devil Ye drew out the Yin Dagger-Ax’s power without reservation. As expected, he gained the upper hand, and the Azure Luan began to show signs of fatigue.

Seeing this, Qingjun brought out another scroll. It was the Hidden Moon Landscape Scroll, the very one she had used before.

The Hidden Moon Landscape Scroll slowly unfurled.

A boundless landscape stretched out like darkened ink for tens of thousands of li, endless and continuous. Within the vast sea of clouds, waves of clouds rose and vanished, while a bright moon slowly ascended. The beauty of the scene reached an almost unreal perfection.

The Hidden Moon Landscape Scroll, too, was no longer what it had once been. The world within the painting showed not the slightest flaw, as though it truly existed.

The astra’s true body curled around Qingjun, forming a shield. Only the bright moon rose higher and flew out from the painted world, hanging high above the two of them.

Cold moonlight cascaded down in a beam and entered the Azure Luan’s body. With the astra’s enhancement, the Azure Luan’s power increased dramatically. It cried out twice in excitement and then locked itself onto the black Jiao.

Old Devil Ye’s intention to end the battle quickly had now completely fallen through. However, it was also difficult for Qingjun to stop him from undoing the seal.

She withdrew part of her consciousness from the Azure Luan puppet and activated the Fivefold Tower, hoping to force back the white Jiao and shatter the white figures that were gnawing at the cage.

But Old Devil Ye would not give her that opportunity. His hand seals changed repeatedly, and a mysterious connection formed between the Yin-Yang Dagger-Axes. Their power surged once again.

Just as the battle was growing ever fiercer, Old Devil Ye seemed to sense something and abruptly looked up.

Black chains crisscrossed overhead, blotting out the sky. His gaze seemed to pierce through the blood water and look toward the space above the blood pool.

Then he withdrew his gaze, his eyes flickering uncertainly as though weighing something in his mind. A moment later, he gave a cold snort and suddenly forced out several drops of blood and essence from his fingertips, flicking them into the white figures.

After devouring the blood and essence, the white figures instantly became incomparably savage. The cage’s seal was on the verge of collapse!

Outside the blood pool, Qin Sang panted heavily, frowning as he stared at the blood devil incarnation before him.

He had already recalled the devilish flames. The sword light and lightning around him had only just faded, showing that he had just used Lightning Evasion and sword evasion.

A moment ago, Qin Sang had used the devilish flames to pressure the blood devil incarnation. He had intended to catch the incarnation off guard and force his way through the blockade into the blood pool by relying on his superior escape techniques, but he had still been stopped.

Qingjun and Jingyu had been down there for so long, yet there had been little movement within the blood pool. Not only was Sin Abyss growing anxious, Qin Sang was also beginning to worry whether Qingjun and Jingyu were really a match for Old Devil Ye.

Out of the corner of his eye, Qin Sang glanced toward the other two battlefields. At the entrance to the blood pool, the two great arrays had become interwoven, each embedded within the other.

A single movement in the array affected the whole. Everyone had been drawn into the workings of the arrays. Now was the most intense stage of the battle. No one within the arrays dared withdraw lightly, or it might trigger a chain reaction and allow the enemy to break through.

As for Devil Lord Tongyou and Tianzheng, it was impossible to tell when their contest would finally be decided.

At first, Devil Lord Tongyou had been nothing more than an inconspicuous patch of shadow within the star river.

Now, that shadow had already spread through half the star river. Yin winds howled as they battered what remained of it.

Earlier, Tianzheng had suffered some damage to his vital energy after they forcefully broke through the Star River Chart. Devil Lord Tongyou’s devilish might had greatly increased, and he now held the upper hand. Victory would come sooner or later.

But time was precisely the most precious thing of all! Even injured, it would be no difficult task for Tianzheng to delay Devil Lord Tongyou for some time.

Qin Sang let out a silent sigh. It seemed like the only possible breakthrough lay on his own side.
