Chapter 1394: The Vanished Spiritual Infant
The aura of tribulation lightning was far too distinctive. Once unleashed, it was nearly impossible to conceal.
A spiritual insect able to command tribulation lightning held an incomparable allure for any immortal cultivator, even though the Sky-Eyed Butterfly could not yet offer much help with crossing tribulation.
The moment word of it spread, greater trouble was sure to follow. Qin Sang's reluctance to let the Sky-Eyed Butterfly act at all stemmed in part from precisely this concern.
The white-robed man understood it too, of course. Commanding tribulation lightning was a thing unheard of. He was shocked beyond composure, but his greater worry was for his own predicament.
Had his opponent not revealed the tribulation lightning, there might still have been room to bargain. Now it was a matter of life and death, for the other side would never let go of anyone who knew the secret of the tribulation lightning!
Just as the white-robed man had foreseen, once the Sky-Eyed Butterfly struck, the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet's assault grew all the more savage, every blow aimed to kill.
Boom! Boom!
The Sky-Eyed Butterfly was thoroughly exhilarated, dancing about the edges of the battlefield, a graceful, fluttering flash of color, yet the tribulation lightning it unleashed showed no mercy at all.
Forbidden by Qin Sang to use tribulation lightning, it had held back far too long, and at last it could show its full power!
With the Sky-Eyed Butterfly watching for it, the white-robed man's spiritual body dared not show itself in the slightest, and the Rainbow Rat's body, under his control, was no match whatsoever for the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet. It was soon battered to a ruin.
"Aahh!" A piercing shriek suddenly came from within the Rainbow Rat, and it sounded almost like two voices.
An instant later the Rainbow Rat's body convulsed, his features twisting in ferocity, the cries growing shriller and more anguished by the moment, plainly the Rainbow Rat's own consciousness fighting back.
Unaffected, the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet drove the power of its puppet seal to the very limit. Like a black devilish shadow, it stretched out one enormous palm and seized at the Rainbow Rat.
Poof! The puppet's five fingers punched clean through the Rainbow Rat's body, the puppet seal's power surging in wildly to wreak havoc. Blood sprayed and was instantly swept away by the violent wind and waves all around, vanishing without a trace.
With a crack, every bone shattered. The Rainbow Rat's eyes rolled back, and the light in them swiftly faded.
An illusory figure suddenly drifted up from the crown of the Rainbow Rat's head. It was the Rainbow Rat's essence soul, and like a phantom it shot off toward the depths of the storm.
The next instant, a bolt of lightning struck the Rainbow Rat's essence soul with precision, and it scattered on the spot.
The Rainbow Rat had died!
Gripping the Rainbow Rat in one hand, the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet swept over to confirm that no remnant soul had escaped, then examined the corpse in its hand carefully.
There was no aura at all left within the Rainbow Rat. In the fierce fight just past, the white-robed man's spiritual body, beset within and without, had been destroyed.
Strangely, though, from beginning to end neither the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet nor the Sky-Eyed Butterfly had ever found the white-robed man's Spiritual Infant, which seemed to have dissolved into nothing along with the spiritual body.
The Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet stared straight at the Rainbow Rat, its expression stiff, its eyes rotating once mechanically, then drew back its palm. In its hand it held an ice box, identical to those the white-robed man had thrown out on the island.
The barrier on this one, however, was clearly of no ordinary kind. This was the sole relic left behind after the white-robed man's spiritual body dispersed.
Everything else, his body included, the white-robed man had cast aside, and only this he had kept on his person. From that alone, it seemed likely that what lay inside the ice box was that precious treasure of Mystic Heaven Palace.
Clutching the ice box, the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet destroyed the Rainbow Rat's corpse and looked around. The traces of battle had long since been wiped away by the storm, leaving no hidden risk behind.
The Sky-Eyed Butterfly landed on the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet's shoulder, and the two slipped quietly away. No one would ever know that a great battle had taken place here, in which a demon king and a Spiritual Infant cultivator had fallen.

On the island, the experts of both races remained utterly unaware that they had been deceived.
The devilish flames spread across the air, drawing every expert's sidelong glance. Bifang had worked the transformation of his supernatural ability, the feathers of blood flames sheathing his body, and to seize the treasure he wore the bearing of one who would spare nothing, forcing his way through the devilish flames.
The flames surged at him layer upon layer, and the feathers of blood flames warded them off, looking exceedingly solid, so that in the short term the devilish flames could not melt them. The sight filled Bifang with mounting confidence, and he charged with all his strength.
Little did he know that Qin Sang's attention was split, fixed on sensing the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet, his true focus elsewhere. After a few obstructions for the others to see, he pressed no further, and his figure merged with the devilish flames and likewise charged toward the white-robed man.
At the same time, Master Feng and the frog-fish chased each other and had already drawn within arm's reach of the white-robed man.
Through the pursuit the white-robed man had taken wound after wound and now looked utterly wretched, his white robes dyed into bloody rags, the gashes across his body ghastly to behold, his steps staggering, yet still he held on.
All present could not help but marvel at such stubborn will. But this was where it ended!
Master Feng caught the frog-fish off guard, drove the scroll to force him back, then turned the astra and unleashed a pillar of wind that slammed into the white-robed man's back.
With a poof, the white-robed man took the blow with no defense, pitched forward violently, and crashed to the ground, motionless.
Master Feng's expression shifted, the ominous premonition in his heart growing thicker. The frog-fish dove toward the ground, vying for the white-robed man's corpse.
A fierce glint flashed in Master Feng's eyes, and he brought down a vicious palm strike. With a bang, the azure palm print struck the white-robed man, and his body was torn to pieces on the spot.
What followed made the experts of both races blanch.
There was no Spiritual Infant! No aura of a primordial spirit! Only chunks of flesh and blood flying everywhere. However dull-witted one might be, by now everyone sensed that something was wrong.
Poof!
A shriveled Mustard Seed Pouch flew out from among the lumps of flesh. Wrenched open in the scramble, it released only a drift of worthless trifles. There were no treasures at all!
We've been tricked!
The same thought sprang up at once in every mind, and all were beside themselves with rage. So many demon kings and Spiritual Infant cultivators gathered on a single island, only to be played by one gravely wounded creature. Once word got out, they would surely be the laughingstock of the entire immortal cultivation world of the North Sea.
By this time, the Spiritual Infant Talisman Puppet had already cut down and killed the Rainbow Rat. Learning the truth through the puppet, Qin Sang clicked his tongue in wonder.
When he had first seen the Rainbow Rat leave the island alone, he had suspected the rat might have pulled some trick and stolen a treasure away in secret. He had never imagined it was really the white-robed man's doing, that a man trapped in a hopeless plight could still pull off such a sleight of hand, deceiving everyone.
Qin Sang hung suspended in the air, devilish flames coiling about him, and watched calmly to see what would unfold. The experts of both races held their hands as well.
Without the slightest hesitation, Master Feng and Bifang spun about and rushed toward the deep ravine, only to find the lingering wreckage of four jade pillars. What the experts of both races could not fathom was how, under the eyes of all, the white-robed man's Spiritual Infant had left its shell and vanished into thin air.
Bifang looked around, a savage light flickering in his eyes, and something suddenly came back to him. "Where did the Rainbow Rat go?"
The demon kings exchanged glances. Only then did they realize that the Rainbow Rat had sent the voice transmission revealing where the white-robed man's true body was, and after that there had been no other sound.
The Rainbow Rat's supernatural ability was profound, and the mark he had left on the white-robed man was not something a Spiritual Infant could shake off merely by leaving its shell. So long as the Rainbow Rat remained, the white-robed man could easily be dragged out. Yet the Rainbow Rat had vanished too!
The demon kings looked at one another, and an absurd thought rose in their minds. Were we all working for the Rainbow Rat for free?
"You are all truly skilled. I am impressed!" Master Feng's thoughts had gone astray as well, and he sneered again and again.
