Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 449 - 448: Medical Accident Compensation

Chapter 449: Chapter 448: Medical Accident Compensation

Around 9:00 on Thursday morning, Ye Lin, a junior nurse, hurried to the Affiliated Hospital’s Plastic Surgery Center, only to be taken aback by the scene that greeted her.

The first-floor lobby of the Plastic Surgery Center was packed with content creators filming with their phones or action cameras. There were at least thirty or forty of them.

In the lobby, Ye Lin also spotted two large cameras of the type used by professional news organizations.

It was almost time for her shift to start, so she had no time to ask around. She rushed to the second-floor nurses’ locker room, changed into her uniform, and put on her nurse’s cap and ID badge.

Ye Lin adjusted her hair and clothes in the mirror. After making sure everything was in order, she jogged to the nurses’ station to clock in for her shift.

She lined up with a few other nurses who were also starting their shifts. After an inspection and a briefing from the head nurse on duty, Ye Lin quickly took the elevator to the nurses’ station on the top floor to meet up with Meng Yao, who had arrived a little earlier.

"Mrs. Meng, the lobby on the first floor is swarming with media. Did word get out that another big celebrity is here?"

As she spoke, Ye Lin glanced inquisitively toward the luxury suite at the other end of the hall.

Meng Yao chuckled. "That suite is empty. No one’s staying in it."

"All those reporters you saw are here for the twin sisters who were admitted last night."

"Mr. Yan, the Director, Mrs. Chen, Mr. Qin, and Dr. Yu are in the conference room discussing the surgical plan."

"Once the surgical plan is finalized, they’re supposed to hold a live-streamed press conference to provide an update."

Ye Lin murmured an "Oh," then said with some confusion, "I’m surprised so many reporters are interested in the twins’ treatment."

"Though they certainly deserve our sympathy!"

Ye Lin sighed, then said excitedly, "Mrs. Meng, did you see the entertainment news this morning?"

"The superstar Ding Xuan was spotted by fans while she was at Capital Airport. She took off her mask and sunglasses to chat with them, completely shattering those rumors about her face being ruined that have been flying around."

Meng Yao nodded and smiled. "I saw that story. ’Spotted by sharp-eyed fans’?"

"It’s obviously a staged public appearance, arranged specifically because her nose has healed."

Ye Lin giggled. "That’s what I was thinking, too."

"Mrs. Meng, I also saw an article by some so-called ’tech guru.’"

"He claims that by precisely analyzing images of Ding Xuan’s face from last night, he concluded that the distance between the wings of her nose is 0.2 millimeters shorter than before, and the tip of her nose is 0.15 millimeters lower."

"It’s supposed to be ’proof’ that during the two or three months she was out of the public eye, Ding Xuan had plastic surgery."

Ye Lin chuckled. "Wow, that tech guru actually knows a thing or two."

Meng Yao gave a small smile. "Ye Lin, you can’t be so naive about the entertainment industry. The competition is cutthroat."

"Why do you think there have been so many rumors online about Ding Xuan’s face being ruined? And they were all so vivid, with such specific details?"

"My guess is that a competitor found out some inside information or the actual truth, and they planned to leak it to destroy her career."

Ye Lin murmured a thoughtful "Oh," then it dawned on her. "So when Ding Xuan showed up looking great, she shattered those so-called disfigurement rumors."

"And so the competitor hired someone to start a new rumor, under the guise of a ’tech guru,’ that she had plastic surgery?"

Meng Yao hummed in agreement. "That’s my analysis, yes."

She paused for a moment before adding her speculation, "The fact that Ding Xuan’s face was injured probably wasn’t a huge secret within the industry."

"Her perfect comeback is definitely going to attract a lot of attention."

"And I’m guessing that in the near future, Mr. Yan is going to have a steady stream of celebrity clients knocking on his door."

Ye Lin’s eyes lit up. "Does that mean we’ll get to share in the good fortune?" she said excitedly.

"I’ve had my eye on a new handbag..."

Meng Yao opened her mouth, but ultimately resisted the urge to give her a lecture.

’Everyone’s situation is different.’

She reminded her, "Alright, time to get to work."

"Today, we need to take that trainee for a lot of tests..."

The live-streamed press conference was held at 11:00 AM in the first-floor lobby of the Plastic Surgery Center.

Facing dozens of cameras of all sizes, Chen Yu and Wang Chuan took turns introducing the basics of the limb transplant and plastic surgery procedures.

Chan Weiwei, representing the Dawn Charity Fund, focused on explaining the foundation’s role in the treatment process.

For example, she explained that in addition to providing medical funding, the foundation had also connected the patients with the renowned Affiliated Hospital and assembled a formidable medical team for them.

As for Yan Feifan and Yu Suye, the handsome pair looked like a perfect couple in their white coats, serving as flawless background dressing for the three speakers during the live broadcast.

Yan Ziruo was also filming the press conference.

She focused on getting footage of Yan Feifan, which she planned to edit and post on his verified short-video and official social media accounts.

「More than half an hour later, the live press conference concluded.」

Yan Feifan hurried to catch up with Chen Yu as she was leaving the Plastic Surgery Center building. "Director, Director," he asked, "I didn’t have a chance to ask earlier. Has there been any resolution regarding the issue with that chef’s finger?"

Chen Yu said in a low voice, "The hospital’s lawyers are in talks with them. We’re preparing to offer a settlement based on a level-eight disability classification."

"According to our lawyer, a settlement is highly likely."

At this, Chen Yu let out a long sigh. "It’s only been six months, and the department has already used up nearly two-thirds of its compensation budget for the year."

"Our annual bonuses for this year are probably shot."

Doctors are only human, and humans inevitably make mistakes.

At a major public hospital like the Affiliated Hospital, with its immense patient volume, medical accidents and disputes were not uncommon each year.

The amount of money paid out in compensation was no small sum.

To strengthen management and performance reviews, the Affiliated Hospital set an annual compensation budget for each department based on historical data.

If a department’s total payouts for the year came in under its budget, everyone’s year-end performance bonus would see a significant boost, especially for the management team, led by the department director.

If the payouts exceeded the budget, however, there were penalties.

The department director, who bore the primary responsibility, could potentially lose their entire bonus.

Yan Feifan tried to console her. "You’re the Director. Why worry about a year-end bonus? You could make that much from a couple of ’freelance’ surgeries."

Chen Yu shot him a look and huffed, "If I earned as much as you do, I wouldn’t have to care about the year-end bonus either."

"Feifan, let me tell you, I’m counting on this phalloplasty project to fund my carefree retirement."

Yan Feifan smiled. "Well, the post-operative examinations on the lab mice have been quite promising."

"I think there’s a good chance of success."

After a brief pause, he asked cautiously, "Director, if we’re likely to reach an amicable settlement with the chef, then what about Dr. Qiao?"

Chen Yu snorted. "Him? I asked him about it. He said he’d had a fight with his girlfriend and was in a bad mood that night."

"He also claimed the chef had a bad attitude that night."

Chen Yu shook her head. "A mistake is a mistake. And he’s still trying to shift some of the blame onto others."

"With an attitude like that..."

Chen Yu fell silent for a moment, then said slowly, "I’m giving him two weeks. He can transfer to the ER, to Orthopedics, or even to another hospital. I don’t care where."

"Either way, he’s not staying in my department."

Just then, Yan Feifan’s phone rang.

The call was from Liu Jin.

"Feifan, some people from the PLA General Hospital are here. They’re asking for you by name..."
