Chapter 582 - 581: Money Is No Object

Chapter 582: Chapter 581: Money Is No Object

Faced with Yan Feifan’s questioning, Shu Lei stammered in a low voice, "I didn’t say I forgave them. I just told them they could try asking you."

"After all, when it’s a problem with the brain, no one can say they’re one hundred percent sure."

Yan Feifan rolled his eyes, his face full of contempt. "You take one step back, and you’ll end up taking ten, then a hundred!"

"Uncle, you can’t expect bad people to suddenly see the light and become saints. Their begging is just a stopgap measure."

A sudden thought struck Yan Feifan, and he asked, "How did they even think to find me through you?"

Shu Lei’s voice immediately rose. "They said they saw it online."

"Some clown actor named Zhang Maoye wrote on his public account that you’re a true medical genius. He said you got rid of an incredibly stubborn blood clot in someone’s brain with just a few miraculous needle punctures."

"They also said Rong Bin’s dementia was caused by a blood clot in his brain."

After a brief pause, Shu Lei asked cautiously, "Feifan, um... this... do you want to take a look?"

Yan Feifan let out a cold laugh and asked in return, "They just showed up in person to beg you?"

"With no tangible offer?"

Shu Lei shook his head and sighed. "They said plenty of apologies. There was begging, crying, kneeling, all that stuff."

"But as for a tangible offer, there was nothing."

Yan Feifan said indignantly, "Uncle, that man cost you three properties and over ten million in relocation money!"

"They just cry and kneel a little, and your heart goes soft?"

"Aren’t you a little too easy to fool?"

Shu Lei just scratched his head and mumbled, "Seeing that guy looking so vacant and out of it, and their whole family, with the old and the young..."

He heaved a long sigh. "They really didn’t come to me with much sincerity."

Yan Feifan said, full of exasperation, "Uncle, if you can’t handle something like this, just hand it over to Mrs. Xia."

"Is there anything she hasn’t seen? She has a heart of stone."

After a pause, Yan Feifan changed the subject. "Uncle, you’ve already proposed. When are you planning to register the marriage?"

"And the wedding ceremony? You should be getting ready for that, right?"

Shu Lei said, a bit shyly, "Well, Xia and I have talked it over. We’re not young anymore, so we’re not going to make a big fuss over the wedding."

"We’ll just take some wedding photos, have a meal with friends and family to celebrate, and then Xia and I will take a trip somewhere, either in the country or abroad. That’s it."

"As for the timing, we’ve set it for October. The autumn weather is crisp and clear then, perfect for getting out and seeing the sights."

Yan Feifan nodded. "As long as you two have agreed on it, that’s what matters."

"By the way, Uncle, what did the police station say about the compensation money?"

Shu Lei chuckled. "Mr. He said we have to wait for the court’s verdict. The case against that group is scheduled to start next week."

"We’ll have a result soon..."

After seeing his uncle out, Yan Feifan checked the time. It was almost five in the afternoon. Feeling irritable, he lost any inclination to go to the library.

He tried to calm himself by studying and thinking, but it had little effect.

What had happened to his parents was an eternal ache in Yan Feifan’s heart.

What could relieve his sorrow? Only singing!

"Duan Yu, how’s your singing?" Yan Feifan called out.

A few seconds later, Duan Yu walked into the inner room and said doubtfully, "I can only sing a few army songs."

"You’re not going to make me sing for you, are you?"

Yan Feifan chuckled. "I’ll be singing for you."

"Tonight, we’re all going to a KTV to sing. You can show off your pipes, too."

Duan Yu let out a soft "oh." He said, "I’m not a good singer. It’s fine if you all just sing."

Yan Feifan chuckled. "Once you hear us sing, you’ll feel more confident about your own voice..."

Just then, a KNOCK KNOCK came from the door.

Yan Feifan and Duan Yu went to the outer room together.

He opened the door and saw the group of people outside. Yan Feifan couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow, a slight smile playing on his lips.

"Mr. Hou, Mr. Ren, and everyone else, please, come in!"

The uninvited guests at the door were the hospital’s Vice-President, Mr. Hou; Ren Zhongyuan, the father of the child with the craniopharyngioma; an unfamiliar middle-aged man; and two young men.

The slightly older of the two young men, who had a buzz cut, kept his head down, not daring to meet Yan Feifan’s gaze.

Yan Feifan remembered this guy perfectly. He was the henchman for that supercar guy, Guan Zhe, from two days ago—his loudmouthed lackey.

The reception area in Yan Feifan’s inner office was quite small and couldn’t seat so many people at once.

The former loudmouthed lackey had no choice but to stand behind the unfamiliar middle-aged man, along with the other young man, who was thin and walked with a slight limp.

Once a few of them were seated, Mr. Hou spoke first. "Mr. Yan, you already know Mr. Ren."

"This gentleman..."

He gestured toward the middle-aged man and introduced him. "This is Mr. Liao Guili, the famous ’Food King’ of Binhai."

Liao Guili leaned forward slightly. "Mr. Yan, a pleasure to meet you."

"I’m really just a seller of snack foods. ’King’ is just a playful title people use."

"I’ve come today to have my son apologize to you, and also to ask for your help with a certain matter."

After speaking, his expression turned stern. "Ziqiang, hurry up and apologize to Mr. Yan!"

At his father’s command, the loudmouthed lackey stepped to the side, bowed thirty degrees to Yan Feifan, and said, "Mr. Yan, I’m sorry!"

"I was rude and disrespectful the other day. Please forgive me!"

Yan Feifan shot the young man a glance before meeting Liao Guili’s eyes. "Mr. Liao, why don’t we talk about that other matter first?"

"It’s possible I won’t be able to help."

"After all, this is supposedly a problem that even a world-class medical institution like the Meilin Clinic couldn’t solve."

Liao Guili quickly replied, "You’re too modest, Mr. Yan. You’re a once-in-a-generation medical genius. My son was just ignorant and didn’t recognize true greatness."

He then turned his head and snapped, "Ziqiang, an apology requires sincerity! Why are you still standing so straight?"

Liao Ziqiang bowed again, this time to a sixty-degree angle.

Yan Feifan still paid the young man no mind, his tone indifferent. "Mr. Liao, let’s get down to business."

Liao Guili gave a strained laugh and beckoned to the other young man.

"Mr. Yan, this is my second son, Liao Zili. Three years ago, he was in a motorcycle accident and severely injured his right leg."

"Although the injury healed after treatment, it left a severe long-term complication: chronic leg pain."

As his father spoke, Liao Zili walked around the sofa, approached Yan Feifan, and pulled up his right pant leg.

Yan Feifan could see several surgical scars of varying lengths on his right leg.

"To be honest with you, Mr. Yan, I did take Zili to the Meilin Clinic for an examination and treatment."

"They said it was nerve pain caused by severe trauma, and that there was no particularly effective treatment—only pain management and rest."

"They said that perhaps, one day, the pain might suddenly disappear on its own."

"But three years have passed..."

Liao Guili sighed softly. "Not only has the pain not disappeared, but it’s actually gotten worse."

"Now, Zili can only manage the pain by relying on large doses of powerful opioid painkillers."

"This can’t go on."

"Mr. Yan, you studied under Director Lo Jun, so you’re also an expert in neurology. I was wondering if you might have a solution?"

Severe pain of unknown origin!

Yan Feifan glanced at Liao Zili’s injured leg again, then his gaze shifted to the still-bowing Liao Ziqiang.

"Mr. Liao," he began, "you were so quick to loyally defend Guan Zhe the other day. Now that you’ve come looking for me, why isn’t he here with you?"

Liao Ziqiang shot straight up, his face defiant. "Yan Feifan—Doctor. You don’t need to try and sow discord between us. This is a completely separate matter."

"I remember what you said that day perfectly clearly. You said you can solve problems that the Meilin Clinic can’t."

"Now’s the time to prove it."

"Mr. Yan, if you can cure my brother’s pain, I will kowtow to you and admit I was wrong."

After a pause, Liao Ziqiang added sarcastically, "You also said your services don’t come cheap."

"And money is the one thing my family has plenty of."

"Let’s just see if you have the skills to back it up..."
