Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 649 - 648: As Brilliant as a Shooting Star

Chapter 649: Chapter 648: As Brilliant as a Shooting Star

At 9:00 AM on Wednesday, Binhai University Affiliated Hospital held a hospital-wide meeting. All clinical, teaching, research, administrative, and logistics staff, except for those with essential duties, gathered in their respective conference rooms to participate via video conference.

During the meeting, a director from the Municipal Organization Department announced the new leadership team for the Affiliated Hospital.

Liu Jin, Party Secretary of the hospital.

Hou Jianfeng, Dean.

Han Xianghong, Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee.

Liang Qing from the City First People’s Hospital, Vice Dean of Medical Affairs.

The former Director of Trauma Surgery, Chen Yu, was appointed Vice Dean of Research and Teaching.

Following that, the vice mayor in charge of public health delivered an important speech on behalf of the city government...

Yan Feifan didn’t attend the meeting because he had surgeries scheduled.

A little past eleven in the morning, Yan Feifan finished two back-to-back surgeries for intraspinal tumor puncture and injection. The moment he stepped out of the operating room, Ren Zhen, who had just been promoted to Director of the Secretary’s Office, invited him to the Party Secretary’s office.

When Yan Feifan entered the Party Secretary’s office, he saw Liu Jin standing alone before the floor-to-ceiling window, hands clasped behind his back, gazing at the view outside.

Yan Feifan walked up to the window and glanced down at the familiar sight of people bustling about on the grounds below, a scene that was nearly identical every day.

"Mr. Liu, what are you looking at? Does being one floor higher make for a different view?"

Liu Jin turned to face Yan Feifan and smiled. "I’ve worked at the Affiliated Hospital for nearly thirty years. I know this place down to every last brick and blade of grass. It’s not the scenery I’m looking at."

He walked over to the seating area and gestured for Yan Feifan to take a seat on the sofa.

"Feifan, the higher-ups are not happy that our hospital has changed leadership twice in just two or three months."

"The vice mayor warned me that if there are any more problems, the new leadership team will be transferred to some remote township ’to serve the people.’"

Yan Feifan met Liu Jin’s gaze. "Mr. Liu, you don’t think I’m the reason the last two party secretaries were driven out, do you?"

Liu Jin let out a hearty laugh. "Of course not."

"I know the ins and outs of what happened perfectly well. You were just passively dragged into it. You’re innocent."

After a brief pause, Liu Jin continued slowly, "I’ve already spoken with Mr. Hou. Aside from my official duties, I’ll be focusing my main efforts on establishing the new hospital branch."

"I hope to see the new branch built and operational within my term."

Yan Feifan asked curiously, "Mr. Liu, what about the public campaign?"

Liu Jin chuckled. "It’s in full swing behind the scenes. We’re gathering support from multiple parties. The official push and lobbying efforts will begin after the National Day holiday."

"Oh," Yan Feifan murmured. He listened as Liu Jin continued, "The vice mayor also made a point of mentioning you."

"Me? What did he say?" Yan Feifan asked, intrigued.

Liu Jin’s tone turned serious. "The vice mayor warned us that we must protect your health and support your development, ensuring you face as few distractions as possible."

"He also told us to lead by example and turn down any requests or personal favors concerning you, no matter where they come from."

Yan Feifan murmured "Oh" again. Liu Jin then changed the subject. "Feifan, about your audio-awakening research... when will the human clinical trials begin?"

Yan Feifan answered frankly, "Mr. Liu, the preliminary work for the awakening research hasn’t even begun. It’s not my main focus right now, so it will likely be a good while."

Hearing this, Liu Jin’s brow furrowed.

Yan Feifan quickly added, "I’ll apply to the ethics committee for provisional approval to conduct validation studies on a few special, individual cases. That will help accumulate some research data."

Liu Jin’s expression relaxed. "Feifan, your audio-awakening research is incredibly important."

"Feifan, you know better than I do. Inpatient Building No. 5, where you yourself spent over a year, is home to more than two hundred patients in deep comas."

"Their families are all desperately hoping for their loved ones to wake up soon."

Yan Feifan scratched his head, looking a bit sheepish. "Mr. Liu, I think I may have overestimated myself."

"I have too much on my plate right now, but I only have so much time and energy."

"On top of that, my health doesn’t permit sustained, high-intensity work. I just can’t be everywhere at once."

Yan Feifan added, "Mr. Liu, I’ll gradually make adjustments to optimize my work schedule."

Liu Jin nodded in understanding and suggested, "Feifan, your work and achievements have already surpassed those of many chief physicians."

"Just look at them. Every single one has at least seven or eight students and assistants helping them."

"Feifan, it’s time you started building your own work and research team. You can delegate a lot of tasks to them."

Yan Feifan answered noncommittally, "Mr. Liu, I’ll start keeping an eye out for suitable candidates."

Liu Jin grunted in agreement and declared magnanimously, "Feifan, starting today, the entire Affiliated Hospital is your staunchest supporter."

"Whatever support you need for your work and research, just say the word. I’ll mobilize the full resources of the hospital to help you..."

After lunch in the cafeteria, Yan Feifan went to the plastic surgery center. He brought Meng Yao and Ye Lin with him to the private room of the patient from Thailand.

The Thai patient’s name on his admission file was Nawa Praka.

His Mandarin was excellent. He said he had been an undergraduate international student at Guangshen University.

Yan Feifan sized up Nawa, who stood before the hospital bed.

Although Nawa was dark-skinned, stout, and short, with large hands and feet and a very masculine face, his skin looked remarkably delicate. Moreover, his posture and gestures had a feminine air to them.

Yan Feifan knew the delicate skin was a result of the estrogen injections he had been taking recently.

’As for his feminine posture and gestures, those must be the result of his own deliberate practice.’

Yan Feifan had read his psychological evaluation report.

’If the report wasn’t falsified, the man has always had gender identity issues, constantly wavering between wanting to be a man or a woman.’

’This recent incident must have been what made him finally decide he wanted to become a woman.’

"Nawa, being here means you’ve accepted my surgical plan..."

Yan Feifan met his gaze and said with a grave expression, "I need to reiterate this one more time, with the utmost seriousness. To realize my surgical plan, we will need to make drastic modifications to your entire body."

"This will require over a dozen major and minor surgeries. You will spend most of the next year in pain and confined to a hospital bed."

"And... let me finish..."

Yan Feifan held up a hand to stop Nawa from speaking. "Such drastic surgical changes will cause severe damage to your health. Furthermore, the optimal results of the surgery will only last for three or four years at best."

"Most importantly, your lifespan will be significantly shortened. You very likely won’t live for more than another ten years."

Yan Feifan asked slowly, "Nawa, do you still wish to proceed?"

Nawa pressed his palms together in a respectful gesture, his gaze resolute. "Mr. Yan, your surgical plan is exactly what I desire."

The estrogen had also affected his voice, making it somewhat high and thin. It was a stark contrast to his dark, brawny, masculine appearance, and it sounded strange to Yan Feifan.

"Mr. Yan, I am well aware of the consequences you described."

"I would rather burn bright and leave this world like a shooting star than live to be a hundred in this body."

"Mr. Yan, please, go ahead and transform me without reservation."

"No matter how painful or agonizing it is, I can endure it!"

Yan Feifan met Nawa’s gaze and held it in silence for a minute or two. Seeing not a hint of wavering in his eyes, he let out a quiet sigh.

"Meng Yao, Ye Lin, take Nawa for a full physical examination..."

The physical examination Nawa needed this time was no simple matter.

It would take three to four days to complete a comprehensive, head-to-toe examination with no stone left unturned, providing the basis for Yan Feifan’s detailed surgical plan...

That afternoon, Yan Feifan went to the Little Red House to discuss a surgical plan with Qin Feng for the brain tumor patient he had brought in...

Around 6:00 PM, while Yan Feifan was in his office at the Little Red House refining a surgical plan, Yan Ziruo and Yu Suye burst in together.

"Feifan, it’s quitting time! Let’s go see your Academician Villa..."
