Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 682 - 681: The Foreign Student Seeking a Master

Chapter 682: Chapter 681: The Foreign Student Seeking a Master

After a careful inspection, Yan Feifan discovered that two of the lab mice had been swapped.

This sent Yan Feifan into a fury.

He could tolerate people fighting over the credit for research, but he could not allow someone to sabotage a medical experiment.

Doing so would severely impact the experiment’s progress, skew the results, waste all the researchers’ hard work, and could lead to major problems.

This was something that could never be forgiven!

"Which one of you did this?"

Qiu Ge’s gaze was as sharp as a sword, fixed on his two students, Deng Yihao and Wang Tao. He questioned them sternly, "Besides me, you two are the only ones who can freely enter and exit this lab with your fingerprints to observe and feed the mice."

"Confess now, and there might be a chance for leniency. Otherwise, you can wait to go to jail!"

Faced with Qiu Ge, Yan Feifan’s unsettlingly grim expression, and questioning gazes he dared not meet, Wang Tao began to panic.

He hastily defended himself, "Professor, I didn’t do something so outrageous. You know me; I’ve always been an honest and dutiful person."

"Although, someone did contact me..."

Qiu Ge cut him off. "Who contacted you? What did they want you to do?"

"Wang Tao, tell me everything, down to the last detail!"

Wang Tao opened his mouth and confessed with a bitter look, "The person was Xv Fang’s mother, Wang Fang."

"She said that if I leaked valuable information from the research and development process, she would pay me a reward starting at one hundred thousand, with no upper limit."

"She also promised some other things..."

Wang Tao quickly added, trying to defend himself, "Professor, I rejected her on the spot. I never contacted her again after that."

"Professor, you have to believe me!"

Wang Tao, noticing the undiminished suspicion in Dr. Qiu Ge’s eyes, quickly shifted his gaze to Deng Yihao next to him and said, "Professor, if Xv Fang’s mother approached me, she must have approached Deng Yihao, too."

Faced with the interrogating looks from Qiu Ge and Yan Feifan, Deng Yihao quickly explained, "Professor, Mr. Yan, Xv Fang’s mother did approach me, and I refused her on the spot."

Qiu Ge let out a cold chuckle.

"Wang Tao, Deng Yihao, you two are really something else. Something this important happened, and you both decided to hide it from me."

"Were you both hatching your own little schemes?"

Deng Yihao quickly shook his head. "Professor, absolutely not. I only kept it from you because I didn’t want to make you suspicious or doubtful of me."

"Professor, that’s what I was thinking, too," Wang Tao added.

Despite their words, both Deng Yihao and Wang Tao slowly lowered their heads, unable to meet Qiu Ge’s piercing gaze, a clear sign of guilt.

At this point, Yan Feifan spoke up. "Dr. Wang, Mr. Deng, you are aware that I am a recipient of a First-Class Merit award from the military and a Second-Class Merit award from the municipal police. If I report this, I will have the full attention of both the military and the police."

"At that point, nothing will remain hidden."

"I’m giving you one last chance. Did you do it, or not?"

Qiu Ge immediately added, "And don’t you two forget, this lab has twenty-four-hour surveillance."

"Mr. Yan, Professor, I really didn’t do it," Deng Yihao said, standing up straight.

Wang Tao also lifted his head. "I swear, I’ve never done anything to betray Mr. Yan or the Professor!"

Seeing that neither of them seemed to be lying, Yan Feifan took out his phone and dialed a number.

1103141!

The call connected instantly. Li Yun’s steady voice came through the phone. "What’s the matter? Go ahead."

"Two of the lab mice for my medical experiment were swapped. I need your help to find out who did it!"

"Also, help me check if any surveillance or listening devices, like hidden cameras, have been installed in the lab."

"What? Lab mice?" Li Yun’s voice was filled with disbelief.

Yan Feifan explained further, "These mice have completed the experiment and are awaiting dissection. They hold immense research value."

"Someone secretly swapped out two of them."

After a brief pause, Li Yun’s voice came through the phone again.

"Mr. Yan, this line is only for urgent and important matters."

"And this is about two lab mice?"

"Mr. Yan, for something like this, you can just file a police report."

This made Yan Feifan angry.

"When you people need something, I grant every request without asking questions. How is it that when I need help, you suddenly start weighing priorities?"

"Let me tell you, I’m not an unreasonable person who can’t tell what’s important."

"To me, this *is* an urgent and important matter."

"So I’m asking you, are you going to help or not?"

As soon as Yan Feifan lost his temper, Li Yun’s tone softened. "Mr. Yan, please don’t be angry."

"It’s just... I can’t make the call on this myself. I need to report it to my superior. Please wait patiently for a moment..."

「Five minutes later」

Yan Feifan received a call back. The reply came personally from the General.

"Mr. Yan, an investigation team has been dispatched. They will work with the local police to handle the incident with your swapped mice."

"Also, Mr. Yan, your identification of that person has been confirmed as accurate."

"Mr. Yan, thank you..."

’They’re fast!’

「Less than half an hour later」

A three-person detective squad from the district’s Public Security Sub-bureau, led by Zheng Libin, along with a three-person plainclothes team, arrived at the neurosurgery lab.

Yan Feifan explained the situation, then left them to their investigation. He departed from the neurosurgery department with his four students and Duan Yu.

Since this incident had postponed the mouse dissections, Yan Feifan sent his students back to set up their office while he and Duan Yu marched over to the hospital director’s office to request patient rooms.

"You want dedicated patient rooms?"

After hearing Yan Feifan’s request, Director Hou Jianfeng thought for a moment and chuckled. "Your research lab has become an entity with independent accounting, so you do indeed need your own patient rooms."

"Mr. Yan, how many beds are you looking for?"

"The more, the better!" Yan Feifan blurted out.

Mr. Hou laughed. "Mr. Yan, one hundred beds, five hundred beds... if you dare to ask for them, I dare to give them."

"The question is, can your research lab even handle that many patients?"

Yan Feifan realized he hadn’t thought it through.

He gave an embarrassed smile and mused, "Given my current situation, I can only take on two to three new patients a week."

"My patients will probably require longer hospital stays. Let’s say a month on average. At full capacity, that’s twelve patients at a time."

"And considering the needs of my research projects..."

Yan Feifan made his decision. "Mr. Hou, please assign my research lab sixteen patient rooms."

"If I need more in the future, I’ll submit another application."

Mr. Hou nodded. "I’ve received your request. I’ll have it processed for you in the next day or two."

He paused for a moment before changing the subject. "Mr. Yan, in this morning’s administrative meeting, we discussed giving your research lab the authority to set its own prices."

"The proposal was approved in principle, but we haven’t finalized the hospital’s profit-sharing percentage."

"Mr. Yan, my idea is to use a tiered system. The higher you set your prices, the higher the hospital’s percentage will be."

Mr. Hou added, "Mr. Yan, many of the hospital’s departments aren’t profitable. I hope you can understand."

For Yan Feifan, money wasn’t that important anymore.

He agreed readily, "Mr. Hou, that profit-sharing principle is fine with me!"

"In that case, Mr. Yan, what’s the highest percentage you’d be willing to accept for the hospital’s cut?" Mr. Hou asked tentatively.

"The highest percentage?"

Yan Feifan thought for a moment, then said, feeling the pinch, "Let’s make it fifty percent. My lab has more than a dozen people, and it costs a lot of money to support them."

Mr. Hou smiled, satisfied. "Alright, fifty percent it is!"

"Mr. Yan, since you’re not short-changing the hospital, the hospital won’t short-change you. We will prioritize your research lab with all of our available resources."

Just then, Yan Feifan’s phone rang.

It was a call from Shi Min.

"Mr. Yan, a doctor from the United States has come to the lab. She says she wants to study under you as your apprentice."

Shi Min added over the phone, "She also said... she’s the niece of the late neurosurgeon from Meilin Clinic, Dr. Jin Hake Man..."
