Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 730 - 729: Optimization Master

Chapter 730: Chapter 729: Optimization Master

Yu Suye wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but she vaguely sensed someone by the bed.

She opened her eyes, letting them adjust to the light.

The desk lamp was on, and she saw Yan Feifan sitting at the desk, staring blankly at the computer screen.

Yu Suye lazily sat up in bed and raised her arms in a big stretch.

"Feifan, what time is it? What are you doing?"

"Seven thirty-seven!"

Yan Feifan replied, then added, "I’m watching Dr. Yu Youyi’s surgical video."

"I was supposed to give him a response this week, but things didn’t go as planned. It’s been an unusually busy week, and I only just managed to finish his video tonight."

"By the way, are your parents resting in your room?"

Yu Suye hummed in affirmation and shuffled over to the desk. She sat on the edge of the bed, resting her right elbow on the desk and propping up her chin.

"They also took a trip to the Academician District to see that villa, and they had plenty of opinions about the renovations."

"After they came back, they washed up and went to sleep."

"My brother took my sister-in-law home. He said he was busy with work and could only spare today."

After a pause, Yu Suye asked curiously, "So, you’ve finished watching Mr. Youyi’s surgical video. Did you find anything?"

Yan Feifan chuckled. "Of course I found something."

"First of all, as a renowned oral surgeon, Dr. Yu Youyi has already developed his own distinct style when it comes to basic surgical skills like handling instruments, suturing incisions, and managing blood vessels. There’s not much to say about that."

"Of course, there’s still room for improvement and advancement."

"It’s just that at his current level and age, it’s not realistic for him to spend more time practicing these basic skills."

Yu Suye pouted at his words. "When you say there’s room for improvement, are you comparing him to yourself?"

"Mr. Youyi’s skill level is already very high."

With the air of an enlightened master, Yan Feifan chuckled. "Actually, for a doctor at Dr. Yu Youyi’s level, if he wants to reach even greater heights, the only way is to simplify his approach and seek a breakthrough in the fundamentals."

"Of course, that requires time and perseverance!"

Yu Suye rolled her eyes. "Skill has no limits, I get it. Feifan, if that’s the feedback you give Mr. Youyi, he’s definitely going to regret paying that 300,000 yuan consultation fee."

Yan Feifan said smugly, "Of course, I can’t let him feel like he wasted his money. I found two areas for him to improve on."

"Which two?" Yu Suye pressed.

Yan Feifan operated the computer, rewinding the surgical video to a point where an incision was being sutured.

"Su Ye, look. I discovered a particular characteristic of Dr. Yu Youyi’s suturing."

"With his skill level, for an incision that could clearly be closed with three stitches, he consistently uses four."

"An extra stitch for every three? Is that really it?"

Dubiously, Yu Suye watched the suturing process on the video. She then nodded in surprise. "It’s true. Mr. Youyi’s sutures are indeed a bit denser."

When suturing wounds, it wasn’t a case of "the more, the better." The principle of "less is more" was just as applicable.

After all, suturing is itself a form of trauma and will leave scars.

This was especially true for delicate work, like suturing small blood vessels. Excessive scar tissue could affect blood flow and easily cause deposits to build up, leading to blockages.

"This is likely a suturing habit Dr. Yu Youyi developed for some reason early in his career, and it has continued to this day."

Yan Feifan offered his analysis, then added, "If he’s mindful of it, he can gradually correct it over time."

"This discovery alone isn’t worth 300,000, so I’m also planning to streamline the overall sequence of the operation for him."

"Su Ye, do you know how to edit videos?"

Yu Suye answered without much confidence, "I’ve used some software before to do simple edits on a short video, but I’m not very familiar with it."

Yan Feifan smiled. "It’s just a matter of breaking up the surgical video and re-editing it into a new sequence. It’s quite simple."

"Su Ye, come help me..."

Enthusiastically, Yu Suye downloaded the video editing software she was familiar with and, following Yan Feifan’s instructions, began editing the four-hour-long surgical video.

Yu Suye was indeed not skilled with the video editing software, but Yan Feifan’s requirements were simple.

Much like editing a document, all Yu Suye had to do was perform a few basic operations like ’cut,’ ’insert,’ and ’paste.’ At most, she had to add some of Yan Feifan’s commentary at the transition points between clips.

Furthermore, Yan Feifan clearly remembered the exact timestamps for each segment, which made the process much simpler.

Even so, it still took Yu Suye considerable effort to finish editing the entire surgical video exactly to Yan Feifan’s specifications.

She checked her work and asked, "Feifan, what’s the main improvement from this surgical optimization of yours?"

Yan Feifan replied thoughtfully, "The procedure is more streamlined. Some steps are combined, and the frequency of instrument changes is reduced. All in all, it should probably shorten the surgery time by about half an hour."

This made Yu Suye gasp in astonishment.

"It was only four hours total, and you shortened it by half an hour. That’s a huge improvement!"

"Feifan, first you optimized the dual-surgeon heart transplant surgery, and now you’ve drastically improved the macroglossia correction surgery."

"Feifan, you’re a master of surgical optimization!"

Yan Feifan chuckled lightly. "This optimized macroglossia correction procedure can’t be widely adopted; it’s only useful for Dr. Yu Youyi."

"That’s because I moved some of the later steps forward and combined them with other actions. Only a doctor of Dr. Youyi’s caliber can understand and manage that."

"Other doctors should just stick to the standard procedure!"

Yu Suye nodded in understanding. "Even so, that’s incredible. It’s like you’ve tailor-made an entire surgical workflow just for Mr. Youyi."

"Worth every bit of that 300,000!"

As she said this, she happened to glance at the time on the computer monitor.

"Ah, it’s already past ten."

"Dinner... my mom and dad..."

Yan Feifan and Yu Suye rushed out of the room to find Yu Yopeng, Su Ru, Yan Ziruo, and Duan Yu sitting on the living room sofa, chatting casually while watching TV.

The pair walked up to them and let out a couple of sheepish chuckles.

"We got carried away with work and lost track of time."

"Um, about dinner?"

Yan Ziruo shot them a glare and chided, "If we’d kept waiting for you two to sort out dinner, we would’ve starved by now."

"Honestly, you two..."

Su Ru stood up and interrupted, "Ziruo, leave them be. It’s a good thing that they can get so absorbed in their work."

"You two must be starving, right?"

"I made noodles with gravy..."

Yu Suye’s eyes lit up. "Mom, did you make the gravy and roll the noodles by hand yourself?"

Su Ru smiled and said, "Of course."

"We’ve all eaten already. I put the fresh, hand-rolled noodles in the fridge for you. I’ll go cook them for you now."

Yu Suye went forward and hugged Su Ru’s arm, cooing like a little girl, "Mom, I love you!"

"Mom, these past few months, the thing I’ve missed most is your noodles with gravy."

Yu Suye then looked at Yan Feifan and said proudly, "Feifan, did you know?"

"My mom makes the best noodles with gravy! They’re absolutely delicious. You’re in for a real treat tonight."

Yan Feifan chimed in, "Thank you for your hard work, Auntie. But we can’t let you cook the noodles. I’ll do it!"

Su Ru smiled. "The cooking time for these hand-rolled noodles is tricky to get right. It’s better if I do it."

"You two are tired as well. Just sit down and wait..."

A few minutes later, Yan Feifan was presented with a bowl—or rather, a basin—of noodles, served in a large soup tureen.

Along with it came a bowl of thick, deep-colored, and incredibly rich gravy.

Yu Suye said excitedly, "Feifan, you have to eat noodles from a big bowl! It just feels right that way."

As she spoke, she poured her bowl of topping—the gravy—into her own basin of noodles.

Yan Feifan followed her lead, and as he poured his own, he saw just how many ingredients were packed into the gravy.

Shiitake and button mushrooms, sliced pork belly, ham, large shrimp, sliced bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms, thinly sliced egg crepes—over a dozen ingredients in all.

Yan Feifan copied Yu Suye again, taking a big mouthful of noodles and gravy with a loud SLURP.

’Hmm, aside from the flavor being a little intense, it smells amazing...’

His appetite piqued, Yan Feifan and Yu Suye both dug in, SLURP SLURP, and quickly polished off their entire basins of noodles.

Patting her stomach, Yu Suye said, still savoring the taste, "I wasn’t lying, was I, Feifan?"

"It’s delicious, right? This is my mom’s specialty."

Yan Feifan agreed, "It really is delicious!"

Su Ru said with a loving expression, "These noodles with gravy aren’t hard to make. If you like eating them, Su Ye, I can teach you."

"Then you can make them for yourself whenever you get a craving."

Yu Suye whined sweetly, "Mom, these noodles have your unique flavor. It’s the best taste in the world. There’s no way I could ever make them like you do."

Su Ru tsked and chided, "You silly girl. All those flowery compliments are just an excuse for being lazy."

The phrase "mom’s unique flavor" struck a chord with Yan Ziruo, reminding her of the shumai her younger brother was always craving.

’I promised I would make him those perfect shumai, but I’ve completely forgotten about it these past few months!’

Looking at her younger brother, Yan Ziruo felt a pang of guilt.
