Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 736 - 735: It’s Hard to Do Good Deeds

Chapter 736: Chapter 735: It’s Hard to Do Good Deeds

It was just past six in the evening, the end of the workday. Wang Chuan walked to his Mercedes in the plastic surgery center’s underground parking garage, and as he opened the door, a voice sounded by his ear.

"No longer a department head, and already so eager to clock out?"

Wang Chuan looked toward the voice and saw Liu Jin walking over.

"The surgery’s finished, and the other patients are recovering well. I don’t have to deal with the department’s mess anymore, so naturally, I’m out of here the second the day is done."

Wang Chuan explained, then added with a dramatic flair, "If I’d known how freeing it is to not be in charge, how pleasant work could be, I would’ve resigned years ago."

As he spoke, Liu Jin pulled open the passenger door and slid inside.

This caught Wang Chuan a bit by surprise. He quickly got into the car.

"Mr. Liu, is there something you wanted to discuss?"

"Or...?"

Liu Jin fastened his seatbelt, pointed forward, and said, "Nothing in particular. I’m just heading to your place for dinner tonight."

Wang Chuan was taken aback for a moment. "I don’t recall inviting you over for dinner."

Liu Jin chuckled. "I’m a very easygoing guy, no need to stand on ceremony. A special invitation isn’t necessary. No need to be so overjoyed, just a simple meal will be fine."

"Mr. Liu, I’m discovering that the higher your rank gets, the more shameless you become."

Wang Chuan shot back with a sarcastic remark, started the engine, and slowly pulled the car out of the parking space.

He suddenly asked, "Too many people begging you for favors? Cornered with nowhere else to go?"

Liu Jin heaved a long sigh, his face a mask of misery. "Those parents of the students who were causing a scene the other day, plus the endless stream of cancer patients... they won’t give me a moment’s peace."

"Especially the parents. They’re throwing every kind of tantrum imaginable. It’s utterly exhausting."

Wang Chuan chuckled, clearly enjoying Liu Jin’s misery. "Well, some got expelled, others were disciplined, and there’s a good chance some might even face criminal charges and jail time. No wonder the parents are getting desperate."

"In the parents’ eyes, they’re just a bunch of kids. Just kids being silly, fanatically chasing a celebrity. How could things have been blown so out of proportion?"

"But they don’t seem to understand that the law is impartial. It doesn’t care how spoiled these kids are. Once they cross the line, they have to face the consequences."

Liu Jin grunted. "As far as I know, those parents have all received a stern warning: don’t you dare harass Feifan, or your punishment will be even more severe."

"And now they’re all swarming me."

"What they don’t realize is that I’m not supposed to disturb that constant troublemaker either."

Liu Jin lamented, "That guy probably has no idea. The only reason he can treat patients, save lives, and conduct his research in peace is because quite a few people, like me, are silently making sacrifices to shield him from all sorts of frustrating distractions."

Wang Chuan scoffed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Mr. Liu, you hardly have the right to complain."

"You’ve benefited greatly from him. Isn’t it your duty to handle these little things for Feifan? It’s only right."

Liu Jin shot Wang Chuan a sideways glance, then changed the subject. "Besides mooching dinner off you, I also need to talk with Mr. Pan and the others about pushing our lobbying efforts forward."

Wang Chuan asked quizzically, "Didn’t you say the municipal government is already drafting a development plan for the medical industry?"

Liu Jin chuckled. "Plans can be modified. We need the leadership to hear more ’voices of the people’ so that the plan can be implemented quickly."

Wang Chuan scoffed in disdain. "What ’people’? They’re just a bunch of people with vested interests trying to secure even more benefits for themselves."

Liu Jin said with a perfectly straight face, "This is subjectively for ourselves, but objectively for the benefit of the general public."

"Otherwise, who would be willing to take the lead on anything in the future?"

"Mr. Wang, don’t be so cynical. You’re a member of this group of vested interests yourself."

Wang Chuan rolled his eyes and changed the subject. "You must have heard, right? Feifan’s dual-surgeon heart transplant has been proven to be a viable procedure!"

Liu Jin grunted in affirmation. "I was told the moment it happened."

"That Feifan... ever since he woke up, it’s like he’s on a whole other level. His research breakthroughs just keep coming, one after another."

Liu Jin said with a sigh, "The lifetime achievements of a medical academician are nothing more than this."

Wang Chuan suddenly proposed, "Mr. Liu, have you ever considered pushing for Feifan to be nominated for the academician selection in two years?"

Liu Jin was taken aback and said thoughtfully, "Isn’t Feifan a bit too young? Being an academician is an honorary title, a commendation."

"Many people only receive that title after they’re past the peak of their careers and their most productive research years."

"And on top of that, many people lose their drive after becoming academicians and never produce any more outstanding research."

Wang Chuan chuckled. "It’s precisely because he’s young that Feifan won’t lose his drive just because he’s honored as an academician."

"On the contrary, having so many brilliant research achievements go unrecognized simply because of his age—that’s what would truly deal a blow to outstanding young researchers like Feifan."

"It would also make the entire academician selection process lose its credibility."

Liu Jin nodded slowly. "If his research on using infrasound to awaken patients in vegetative states produces significant results, that project alone would be enough to qualify him for the title."

"To get him into the next selection in two years, we’d have to start planning and making moves right now..."

Liu Jin and Wang Chuan then began to enthusiastically discuss the matter of Yan Feifan’s candidacy for academician...

「An hour passed quickly.」

As they arrived at Phoenix Mountain Villa, Liu Jin noticed the car unhesitatingly drive past the road leading to Wang Chuan’s mountaintop villa.

"Hey, the road..."

Wang Chuan explained, "We’re having dinner at Yan Ziruo’s."

"My housekeeper took a few days off, so there’s no one at my place to cook for you..."

At that same moment, Yan Feifan and Yu Suye, who had just returned to their home at Zuimo Court, were also sitting down to dinner.

Although Du Qiu had gone with Yan Ziruo to the Phoenix Mountain Villa, leaving no one to cook at Zuimo Court, Yan Ziruo had thoughtfully ordered them takeout from Xinfeng Restaurant.

"Su Ye, something rather heartbreaking happened today..."

Yan Feifan swallowed the food in his mouth and met Yu Suye’s concerned gaze before continuing, "Today, the three deaf-mute children Mrs. Man referred to me had their cochlear implant surgeries. At noon, she brought the three children’s parents to thank me."

"One of the parents said that the child would learn to speak and integrate into society much faster if they received professional speech and hearing therapy after the surgery."

"They were hoping I would do a good deed all the way and cover the costs for that therapy as well."

Yu Suye sighed softly and said comfortingly, "That parent may be insatiable, but you should still feel good that a cochlear implant surgery helped a deaf and mute child recover."

"The child is the one who is pitiable, and it’s not their fault."

Yan Feifan grunted in agreement. "It didn’t bother me that much, but I noticed Mrs. Man looked really upset."

"Perhaps this incident will be quite a blow to her."

Yu Suye chuckled. "Mrs. Man is a seasoned journalist. She’s seen it all. What kind of thing could she possibly not have encountered?"

"You’re worrying too much."

"I hope so!"

Yan Feifan sighed, then continued, "And then there was that little boy with ectopia cordis."

"He Junxing told me that when he contacted the parents, they said they were willing to come here for the high-risk surgery."

"But they said that if they came to the hospital to care for their child, they wouldn’t be able to work, and their entire family would lose its source of income."

"They were hoping we could cover all of their family’s living expenses—food, clothing, housing, and transportation—and also provide a subsidy to offset their lost income."

Yan Feifan sighed. "Su Ye, I’m discovering that doing good deeds is not as simple as it seems."

Yu Suye placed a piece of cured pork on his plate. "It’s very likely the family has already given up on that child," she said.

"Given his condition, he’ll need a long time to recover post-surgery, and his development will still lag behind that of a normal person."

"In the countryside, it would be a huge challenge for someone in his condition to find a wife, unless his family could spend a lot of money."

After a brief pause, Yu Suye chuckled softly. "Feifan, don’t be upset. Let me tell you something happy."

"My aunt is pregnant..."
