Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 799: Beauty Needs to Be Set Off

With Mr. Bai making such a generous and magnanimous donation, Yan Feifan naturally had to reciprocate. He couldn’t let someone donate so much money without any fanfare.

After all, he was an entrepreneur with over a thousand employees to support.

They agreed to hold a donation ceremony at the hospital on the day of Mr. Bai’s discharge, making it as grand as possible.

Feeling pleased and full of vigor, Yan Feifan left the hospital room with the two checks in hand.

A common saying perfectly described his current state: with provisions on hand, the heart is at ease.

With an additional fifty million in the charity fund, he wouldn’t have to worry about funding for the next two years.

This would at least guarantee his five students ample hands-on opportunities to improve their skills.

For a surgeon, no amount of theoretical study or practice could compare to the concrete, memorable experience of a single, real-life surgery…

At nearly nine in the evening, Yan Feifan, who was working at home, received another call from his uncle.

His uncle told him that he and his aunt had discussed it and that he would be bringing the mother and son back to Binhai this weekend.

A short while after hanging up, Yan Feifan received an email from his uncle with the three-year-old’s medical information.

The injuries were truly severe!

Both legs had complex fractures extending from the mid-thighbone down to the lower leg bones. The right knee joint, in particular, was severely damaged.

Furthermore, while the child had sensation in his left leg, it was exhibiting muscle weakness, which was a clear sign of nerve damage.

Yu Suye, who had reviewed the files with Yan Feifan, said indignantly, “What kind of doctor treated this child? Not a single one of these fractures has healed properly.”

“Aren’t Malaysia’s medical standards supposed to be excellent, comparable to those in Europe and America?”

Yan Feifan, on the other hand, was more level-headed. He said, “Even in developed nations in Europe and America, only the wealthy can afford timely and comprehensive medical care from top-tier doctors.”

“To be fair, the fractures in this child’s legs were almost shattered.”

“His injuries must have been extremely severe. The fact that the doctors managed to save his legs at all means they were competent enough.”

“It’s just…”

Yan Feifan sighed softly. “If this little guy wants to recover, he’s going to have to go through another major ordeal.”

“Su Ye, it’s all yours.”

Yu Suye was taken aback. She asked in surprise, “Feifan, you’re not going to operate yourself?”

“Even though it’s almost certain this little guy is your cousin, and there’s the principle of not operating on family… you don’t really have an emotional attachment to him, do you?”

“It shouldn’t affect your performance in the operating room, right?”

Yan Feifan shot her a sideways glance. “What are you thinking? It has nothing to do with avoiding it. It’s just that this surgery isn’t one that only I can perform.”

“Aside from the joint repair, which is a bit difficult, the rest of the orthopedic work is just a matter of sawing the bones and resetting them.”

“It wouldn’t be much of a challenge for you, and for me, it’s practically effortless.”

He paused, then added, goading her slightly, “Of course, if you can’t handle the unknown nerve damage that’s causing the muscle weakness in his left leg…”

“Su Ye, then I’ll…”

Yu Suye cut him off, her face a picture of confidence. “I can’t handle it? As if!”

“Forward me the email. I’ll start working on a preliminary surgical plan.”

Yan Feifan smiled, tapped a few keys on his laptop, and forwarded her the email.

Just as Yu Suye was about to turn and leave, she noticed several crumpled balls of waste paper in the trash can next to the desk.

She bent down, picked up two, and smoothed them out.

Two charcoal headshot sketches of a beautiful woman appeared before her.

These were two quick, simple sketches; Yu Suye could only make out the shape of the face and the facial features, but none of the details.

She compared the two sketches and found only a slight difference in the shape of the mouth.

‘She knew that each drawing actually represented a plastic surgery plan, and the vast amount of detail was all stored away in Yan Feifan’s mind.’

“So you haven’t decided on the plan for the ‘ultimate beauty’ yet?”

Yan Feifan grunted, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “I just feel like something’s missing.”

“The concept of ‘ultimate’ is fine in my head, but when I try to put it on paper, it never feels perfect enough.”

“‘Perhaps this is just the gap between the ideal and reality. Maybe it’s impossible to perfectly capture it?'”

‘Yu Suye knew Yan Feifan’s perfectionism was kicking in again. Especially since the goal this time was ‘ultimate beauty,’ it was only natural he’d push himself to make it absolutely flawless.’

She suddenly reached out and ruffled Yan Feifan’s hair.

His hair, cut just a few days ago, was a bit prickly, but she liked the feel of it under her hand and couldn’t help but ruffle it some more.

Yan Feifan glared sideways at her. “I’m not a pet, and I’m not Xiaoyu! Get your hand off my head!”

Yu Suye giggled and pulled her hand back.

“Feifan, ‘ultimate beauty’ doesn’t mean ‘perfect beauty,’ and besides, we can never achieve true perfection.”

“Actually, in my opinion, flawed beauty is more memorable than some so-called ‘ultimate’ beauty.”

“Like the Venus de Milo.”

“There are so many statues of Venus in the world, but the Venus de Milo is by far the most famous.”

At this, Yu Suye chuckled. “Feifan, there’s a story online that says they eventually found the statue’s missing arms, but the hands were incredibly ugly, like a rough man’s hands.”

“It shattered the artists’ beautiful illusions. They felt that if the arms were reattached, the Venus would no longer be a great work of art.”

“And so, they never reattached them.”

Yu Suye said playfully, “So, Feifan, maybe you could take a page from that book.”

“‘What if you intentionally leave one obvious flaw, one imperfection, in this otherwise nearly perfect, ultimate design?'”

Despite her joking tone, Yan Feifan actually considered it. “Su Ye, you have a point.”

He mused, “A flaw lowers expectations and can even evoke sympathy. At the same time, a flaw can also serve as a contrast.”

“Beauty needs contrast.”

“The same is true for a person’s face.”

“If the first thing I notice are a person’s stunningly perfect eyes, then even if her nose and lips are also beautiful, they’ll seem disappointing in comparison. My second and third glance will only lead to disappointment.”

Yan Feifan’s train of thought began to clear.

“So, I need to make the first glance at Ji Meng focus on the least perfect part of her face. That way, it will create a sense of gradual visual improvement!”

Yu Suye asked curiously, “Feifan, are you going to leave a small imperfection on her eyes or nose?”

Yan Feifan chuckled. “If there’s an obvious flaw on her eyes or nose, could you still call it ‘ultimate beauty’?”

“This ‘flaw’ has to be natural, yet eye-catching. It needs to make people feel a sense of pity, which in turn sparks their imagination and fantasies…”

A new surgical plan rapidly took shape in Yan Feifan’s mind, the details filling in just as quickly.

He pulled out another sheet of A4 paper, laid it on the desk, and picked up a charcoal pencil from the side.

As he was about to begin, Yan Feifan waved a hand at Yu Suye.

“Go on, get back to your own work. Don’t bother me here.”

This made Yu Suye huff in annoyance. “You ungrateful jerk! I help you find a new approach, and not only do you not thank me, you complain that I’m bothering you.”

“Hmph, I’m done with you…”

Yu Suye, who had stomped out, quickly returned with a glass of freshly squeezed juice for Yan Feifan…
