Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 2798 - 2799: Mutual Speculation

Chapter 2798: Chapter 2799: Mutual Speculation

As soon as Adanis saw it was Kaier, she instinctively prepared to interrupt the Wise Sovereign. She wasn’t interested in Dox, an unrelated Wizard, let alone an unrelated Apprentice.

However, before Adanis could speak, the first words from the Wise Sovereign caught her attention.

"Speaking of which, this person is actually the initiator of their exploration of the Underground Aqueduct."

"This person is quite interesting; he is attached to a remnant soul. With the unconscious assistance of this remnant soul, he became a Talented One. Under its influence, he embarked on a long-term relic exploration plan. This remnant soul seems to care a lot about the relic, perhaps wanting to locate a specific relic through this."

As the Wise Sovereign’s narrative unfolded, Adanis’s interest gradually increased. The main reason was that the Wise Sovereign’s storytelling method made Adanis mistakenly believe that the relic the remnant soul was searching for was the Underground Aqueduct.

Additionally, the fact that Kaier was the real initiator of their exploration of the Underground Aqueduct led Adanis to speculate whether this remnant soul was related to the area of remains.

At that moment, Adanis didn’t urge the Wise Sovereign but attentively listened to the narration, while guessing in her heart who this remnant soul might be. Could it be related to Augustine or Margaret, or perhaps to Warden Franklin?

While Adanis listened and pondered, she didn’t notice that in the Wise Sovereign’s recount, Laplace’s gift words hadn’t been mentioned.

Another long and tedious storytelling...

By the end, Adanis realized something was amiss and inquired about Laplace’s gift words.

At this point, the Wise Sovereign slowly said, "Seek the Retracer of the past, your final destination is not here."

Upon hearing this, veins bulged on Adanis’s forehead: "Are you toying with me?"

The Wise Sovereign remained unflustered: "How could I dare? I’m merely following the instructions of His Majesty, introducing one by one. His Majesty told me to tell interesting things, so I tell interesting things, didn’t I?"

By now, Adanis understood the Wise Sovereign’s scheme: it was merely an attempt to probe who she truly focused on.

Furthermore, by this time, Adanis also realized that the Wise Sovereign had likely already guessed whose gift words she wished to hear.

Adanis let out a deep breath: "Enough, tell me about the gift words of the other red-haired Wizard!"

The other red-haired Wizard, undeniably, referred to Angel after his change in appearance.

The Wise Sovereign had wondered from the beginning of the narration whether Adanis would once again focus on Angel, and it turned out to be true.

The Wise Sovereign’s expression did not change, but internally his curiosity only grew larger: what exactly did Adanis see in Angel? Why was she so focused on him?

"As for his gift words..."

The Wise Sovereign remarked thoughtfully. He initially planned to restrain himself before extolling, but before he could "extoll," Adanis’s gaze suddenly paused.

And in the next second, the Wise Sovereign sensed something, his gaze turned to the direction of the passage, muttering to himself: "Is the encounter finally about to happen?"

Adanis: "Put aside his gift words for now. My second reason for finding you is that I want control over the Magical Energy Array near your hall."

The Wise Sovereign glanced at Adanis: "This request exceeds the agreed-upon scope. I allowed His Majesty free access to my hall; that is already the limit."

Adanis coldly retorted: "I’m not asking for control over your hall!"

The Wise Sovereign: "It seems His Majesty forgets, the Magical Energy Array surrounding the hall belongs to the core nodes of the hall. Transferring it to His Majesty also indirectly controls my hall."

The Wise Sovereign clearly showed no intention of cooperating. Adanis knew this request was a bit too much, but she proposed it purely for another purpose.

"You don’t have to grant control, but surely you’re able to provide surveillance rights?"

This was Adanis’s true intention. She wanted to witness Angel and others being consumed by You Nu. Others could escape into the Sea of Void Mirror, but Angel must die!

The Wise Sovereign also recognized Adanis’s tactic: to exaggerate the request so that it would definitely be refused, then lower the request to achieve the actual goal.

This tactic... was actually unnecessary.

Because in this regard, he and Adanis had a shared interest. He also intended to use the surveillance rights of the Magical Energy Array to see if Angel could successfully pass You Nu and reach the hall.

So, Adanis didn’t actually need to use any tactics. If she spoke directly, the Wise Sovereign would have met her request.

"Does His Majesty want surveillance rights to appreciate how You Nu devours outsiders?"

Adanis scoffed coldly in response.

The Wise Sovereign: "In that case, why not watch the live broadcast together?"

"Live broadcast?" Adanis stared quizzically at the Wise Sovereign.

The Wise Sovereign chuckled: "This is a word I recently learned. Don’t mind its meaning, just watch along."

With that, the Wise Sovereign gently tapped the adjacent wall, and the once thick wall suddenly became a transparent screen. Displayed on it was the scene of Angel and the others groping their way forward outside.

They were approximately fifty meters away from the fork where You Nu resided. However, they seemed to have sensed the odd atmosphere and slowed their steps, their expressions solemn and cautious.

"Is this the live broadcast?" Adanis was briefly stunned. Although the Wise Sovereign hadn’t relinquished the surveillance rights, this mode of viewing the outside situation was indeed acceptable.

"Something like that? I previously experienced a holographic live broadcast, though I don’t have the ability to create a holographic one, simulating the scene through surveillance rights isn’t a problem," the Wise Sovereign explained.

Adanis’s gaze was fixed on the transparent screen, and she suddenly asked: "Can he see the live broadcast too?"

The Wise Sovereign looked back, only to find that in the scene, Angel was staring directly at the "camera," his eyes boring straight through, as if engaging in a direct confrontation through the screen.

The Wise Sovereign hesitated for a moment, wondering: could Angel actually see them?

While suspicion lingered in the Wise Sovereign’s mind, Angel nonchalantly shifted his gaze, as if the earlier mutual stare was merely an illusion.

The Wise Sovereign contemplated further, and in a determined tone, he uttered words he himself found unbelievable: "Impossible, how could he discover us?"

Though Adanis was also somewhat skeptical, seeing the Wise Sovereign so determined, she accepted his assertion.

Since Angel and his party were still advancing slowly, Adanis turned back to the Wise Sovereign to inquire about the previous question: "Now can you talk about the Wizard’s gift words?"

The Wise Sovereign: "I wonder why Her Majesty the Goddess is interested in his gift words?"

Adanis replied indifferently: "None of your concern."

The Wise Sovereign: "Alright then, the answer Her Majesty seeks is... I do not know."

Adanis frowned, "What do you mean? Are you threatening me?"

The Wise Sovereign shrugged, looking innocent as he said, "I think Her Excellency the Goddess misunderstood my meaning. What I meant was that Her Heart’s Reflection is unable to see this wizard. Which means, he hasn’t given any supposed messages."

Adanis was stunned for a moment before she realized what the Wise Sovereign meant, "Her Heart’s Reflection can’t see this wizard?"

The Wise Sovereign nodded.

Adanis murmured softly, "That’s impossible. She was born of the Mirror Domain, a power bestowed by the Mirror Domain. How could she not see through a human wizard?"

The Wise Sovereign said, "That I do not know. Perhaps this wizard has an unusual background?"

Adanis raised her head and stared directly at the Wise Sovereign, "What do you know?"

The Wise Sovereign was about to speak when Adanis interrupted, "Don’t brush me off. For others, you can talk a lot of nonsense, but when it comes to him, don’t tell me you can’t even come up with any nonsense?"

The Wise Sovereign replied, "For others, I can speculate, paired with given messages as evidence, so I can more or less say something. But with him, he’s a very astute lad, everything he does is watertight. Plus, there are no given messages, so my understanding of him is indeed very limited."

Adanis sneered, "His name, his identity, his abilities, you know nothing?"

The Wise Sovereign said, "Let’s not mention that for now. I thought Her Excellency the Goddess, caring so much about him, would already know his identity."

Adanis raised an eyebrow and said nothing.

"Then I’m curious. If Her Excellency doesn’t know who he is, why pay so much attention to him?"

Adanis said coldly, "I said it has nothing to do with you. All you need to do is tell me all the information about him. You don’t need to worry about anything else."

The Wise Sovereign said, "As for him... I don’t know much information at all."

"All I know is that he might be an Illusionist Wizard or a Space Mage, has some alchemical talents, and as for a name, they call him ’Gold’ within their team."

Adanis asked, "Other information? Why is he here? What special traits does he have?"

Adanis’s inquiry actually provided a lot of intelligence to the Wise Sovereign, but it only made the Wise Sovereign even more puzzled.

He had previously mentioned only the main intelligence about Angel, deliberately concealing his name, trying to figure out what aspect of Angel Adanis most cared about.

As a result, Adanis seemed unclear and unconcerned about Angel’s affiliations, abilities, or even his name.

Still, Adanis proactively asked the Wise Sovereign about Angel’s purpose and his special traits.

This meant that Adanis could be said to know—almost nothing about Angel.

The Wise Sovereign found the matter increasingly strange. Previously, he thought Adanis knew something about Angel, but it now appeared that Angel hadn’t lied; he knew almost nothing about Adanis, and Adanis had never met Angel. This was puzzling, as if Adanis knew nothing about Angel, why was she so particularly attentive, inexplicably hostile, and even murderous towards him?

Where is the breakthrough point for solving this suspicion?

While the Wise Sovereign kept an unchanged expression dealing with Adanis, countless streams of information swirled in his Mind Space, trying to identify any potential doubts between Angel and Adanis.

"His purpose? They all say this was an unexpected adventure, meaning there was no purpose, just pure exploration."

Adanis said, "Do you believe that nonsense? Even the descendants of Noah came, and it’s just pure exploration?"

The Wise Sovereign said, "I believe because my appraisal shows they did not lie. As for the descendants of Noah, they were actually a temporary addition to the team; there wasn’t any descendant of Noah in the original group."

"Moreover, his special abilities... I haven’t discovered any yet, but his illusion technique is interesting and has a unique flavor."

The Wise Sovereign was puzzled, and in fact, Adanis was as perplexed as he was.

According to the agreement, the Wise Sovereign would not deceive her on these issues. This meant that what the Wise Sovereign said was true.

Even though the Wise Sovereign used to engage in verbal games, wandering off the topic and mentioning inconsequential things, he did not deliberately obscure the focus when talking about Angel’s purpose.

So, did Angel really come here just to explore?

But if he had no purpose, why would Olao be so concerned about him?

Also, even that woman, Laplace, couldn’t see Angel’s Heart’s Reflection, which was also very strange.

This indicated that it was impossible for him to be a wizard without a story.

Either he deceived the Wise Sovereign, or Olao saw the hidden story within him.

While Adanis pondered, the focus within the Wise Sovereign’s thoughts converged on an emblem.

This emblem had an outer pattern filled with mysterious hidden meanings, somewhat similar to a true name mark, and the main body of the emblem was a circular divided diagram, with a man and a woman on each side.

This was the so-called Mark of the Mirror Demon God.

And the woman on the mark was Adanis, while the hat-wearing man...was another entity in the remaining land.

The Wise Sovereign knew him too, and knew he had always stayed in the remaining land. But in the Wise Sovereign’s millennium-long memory, his appearances could be counted on one hand.

And his last conversation with him was still thousands of years ago.

Currently, the only one maintaining a connection with the Wise Sovereign was Adanis.

As for this individual, it was as if he had become invisible.

But the Wise Sovereign knew well that he was actually the most orthodox Guide left behind by Augustine.

Adanis was born later on, and she hadn’t even seen the real persons of Augustine and Margaret.

However, though Adanis was born later, she possessed an unparalleled force stronger than that of ’him.’ In fact, the Wise Sovereign could vaguely guess that Adanis might have already been able to leave the remaining land.

This meant that she was now an absolutely independent being, no longer confined to the Underground Aqueduct.

But she did not leave, instead always remaining in the remaining land.

The Wise Sovereign didn’t know why but speculated it might be related to ’him.’

So, could her focus on Angel this time also be related to ’his’ attitude?
