Chapter 392: Chapter 143: The Green Tea Female Side Character in a Period Piece (30)
Chi Yun’er lamented how their fate had been intertwined long ago. It was just that she had been deceived by Jiang Zishi, turning a blind eye to such a wonderful man living right across from her...
The next day, Chi Yun’er came downstairs, her eyes still blurry with sleep, only to see the man attentively setting out a full breakfast spread on the table.
"Morning, Brother Hua. Where are my parents?" Chi Yun’er covered her face with one hand, hiding her disheveled, just-woken-up appearance, while her fox-like eyes peeked out and scanned the room.
"Our parents took the entire day off. They’re out on their bikes right now, visiting relatives one by one to invite them to our engagement party at noon. It’s at the state-owned restaurant next to the main hospital," Jiang Yihua said, walking over with a soft smile.
Recalling how he had ambushed her last time before she’d had a chance to wash up, Chi Yun’er refused to let him get any closer.
’She might have stumbled through her past life in a daze, but she was crystal clear about things now. A woman makes herself beautiful for the one who adores her, and she had no intention of becoming a frumpy, sallow-faced housewife after getting married.’
’She could be a slob in front of anyone else, but for the man she loved, she would stay radiant and beautiful for a lifetime!’
’It was a sweet burden, one she was more than willing to bear.’
She scurried off to wash up. When she was done, she returned with a mischievous grin, like a cat that had just stolen the cream. After a quick scan of her surroundings, she saw the man open his arms and joyfully pounced on him, snuggling into his chest to express her boundless happiness.
Jiang Yihua’s expression froze for a moment. Gritting his teeth, he hoisted her up and responded in his own fashion.
The grandfather clock in the living room went DONG, DONG, DONG several times before Chi Yun’er finally pushed him away with a pout and trudged listlessly to the table to eat.
The breakfast was sumptuous, filled with all her favorite foods. However, she didn’t have a large appetite, so she only had a small taste of each dish, leaving the rest to fill the man’s stomach.
"I’ll go with you to work in a bit. Then at noon, we’ll head to the state-owned restaurant for the party. There will be six tables in total, which is just enough to squeeze in our closest friends and family."
"Our mom said you should wear something all red. It’s festive!" he said with a smile, pointing to an outfit laid out on the sofa.
The moment Chi Yun’er heard he would be with her the entire day, her eyes lit up. "You don’t have anything else to do, Brother Hua? You’re going to spend the whole day with me?"
"Is spending time with my wife not an important matter?" Jiang Yihua raised an eyebrow, his gaze shifting to her wrist. He was looking at the gift he had given her the previous night.
Mongolia was rich in mineral resources, including gold and jade. Consequently, the towns near the mines were full of beautiful jewelry.
The string of jade beads made Chi Yun’er’s fair, slender wrist look even more beautiful and delicate.
"I brought back a lot of local specialties from Mongolia for you to try later. There’s also some jewelry I think you’ll like," he said. After finishing his meal, he took the initiative to wash the dishes.
Chi Yun’er hummed in agreement, washed her hands, and went upstairs, lifting the hem of her dress.
When she came back down, she had her hair in a high lantern braid tied with a large red bow. She wore a simple yet elegant red dress with a cinched waist that perfectly accentuated her graceful figure.
Jiang Yihua’s eyes darkened. He had been too ascetic in the past. Now, he was like an uncaged lion, desperate to tear apart and devour the prize right in front of him.
’The stark contrast almost made him loathe himself.’
Upon arriving at the hospital, Chi Yun’er went to the office first to meet up with Xu Chengfang.
Xu Chengfang had also done well yesterday. After all, she had gone through a short but efficient training session and had a ready-made script to recite from.
Her results were similar to Chi Yun’er’s, and she had also brought back plenty of samples.
The two put their heads together and planned out their tasks for the day. Then, each with their helper from yesterday in tow, they started lugging the samples to various departments to build some goodwill.
However, considering the many young nurses in the hospital’s various departments, Chi Yun’er decided to leave Jiang Yihua in the office to avoid him becoming a distraction.
There weren’t a huge number of samples, so Chi Yun’er decided to distribute them based on how demanding the work was in each department.
Everyone was pleasantly surprised by this unexpected gesture of appreciation. Even though it wasn’t much—perhaps just a bottle of soda, a few crackers, a couple of candies, or a spoonful of honey per person—it was a welcome treat.
But it was the thought that counted. It felt refreshing, a tiny bit of positive feedback for all their quiet, thankless work.
"Well, well, who’s this?" a woman in a white lab coat said to her colleague. She caught sight of Chi Yun’er handing out candy, and a smirk played on her lips as she crossed her arms.
"I heard Vice President Chi is a man of great principle, and I see it’s true. He won’t even give his own daughter a leg up. Then again, if you don’t have any real skills in a hospital, it doesn’t matter how powerful your connections are. You’ll still end up doing menial tasks like fetching tea and water."
