Chapter 530: Chapter 179: The ’80s Drama Queen is Forced to Become a Top Student (14)

Xiao Xuezhen listened and thought for a moment. He, too, felt that continuing to keep that freaky girl around was like holding a bomb in his arms.

Therefore, his previous ideas had to be scrapped. ’He didn’t want to be angered to death before the girl ever had a chance to show him any filial piety!’

"Will this work?" he asked, his eyes slightly narrowed. He didn’t want outsiders to see him as the one orchestrating this.

Ren Xingchen nodded. "It can, it definitely will. I’ve already asked around. That old woman is interested in adopting a child. The main thing is, Yunyun is a girl, so I don’t know if she’ll be wanted."

Xiao Xuezhen smiled, the corner of his lip twitching up. "Before, she might not have wanted a girl. But what’s the situation now? Families in the city only have one or two kids. Does she really have the luxury to be picky?"

"In the countryside, boys are treated like treasures. How much money can that old woman have? She definitely can’t afford a high price. So, under these circumstances, a girl like Sheng Leyun, with no biological father and a remarried mother, is a perfect fit for her to adopt."

Ren Xingchen nodded repeatedly. "Alright then. I’ll go sound out the old woman tomorrow."

To achieve their goal, the couple whispered to each other for a long while. The atmosphere gradually shifted, and they embraced once more, wishing they could embed themselves into each other’s very souls...

Waking up the next morning, Sheng Leyun got herself ready and headed out with her schoolbag.

Her next-door neighbor, Gong Zicheng, heard the noise and came out too. "Let’s go. We’ll buy steamed buns at the state-owned restaurant. Their meat buns are really famous. Lots of people from downtown ride their bikes all the way over here for them."

Sheng Leyun nodded and followed along with light steps.

She was still young and wasn’t used to rich food, but even though the buns were almost as big as her face, she still scarfed down two of them. If Gong Zicheng hadn’t stopped her, worried her stomach couldn’t handle it, she probably would have eaten another one.

When she got to school, aside from her close friends coming up to greet her, no one else asked why she hadn’t been there the previous afternoon, just as she’d expected.

After a full day of classes, Sheng Leyun felt like a newcomer to a walking club. She hadn’t trained before, but she adapted to the pace quickly. In fact, she was very dissatisfied with a rhythm so slow it was practically standing still.

During the break, a few of her friends shared the results of their efforts from yesterday.

"I went home and told my parents I wanted to find a private tutor and skip a grade. They thought I had a fever and was talking nonsense. How could I suddenly become so diligent and serious?"

"But what could they do? Since I, their son, was willing to study, they didn’t dare slack off. They found a junior high student on my grandma’s side who’s supposedly one of the top in his grade and comes from a family that isn’t well-off. They said he’ll give us all intensive tutoring after his high school entrance exams."

Another friend chimed in, "My parents found me a high school student..."

The other friends all boasted, "Haha, my family found a college student! He can start tutoring us tonight..."

When it was Gong Xiaofei’s turn, he scoffed. "My family produces its own geniuses. When my grandma heard that our classmate Sheng Leyun was looking for a tutor, she immediately nominated my brother—the one in our junior high division."

He gave everyone a big thumbs-up. "Anyway, all my brother does when he gets home is sleep. He never studies, but I have no idea how he’s so good at school. He’s in every single competition."

"In that case, let’s just draft him into service."

"As for the place, that’s easy too! My family has a small courtyard house that’s usually empty. It’s the perfect place for us to study. If we get tired, we can even just find a room and take a nap!"

Sheng Leyun blinked.

Before she could speak, the other friends asked:

"Brother Cheng? Will he agree?"

"Yeah, I don’t want him to teach us. With him, you’ll ask a question, and he’ll just give you a look and expect you to figure it out yourself."

’A question this simple, and you still don’t get it? Are you an idiot?’

The rest of them nodded one after another, their faces long and miserable, looking like pitiful lambs to the slaughter.

Sheng Leyun propped her chin on her hand. "I think he’d be fine. If it’s Brother Cheng, we could get twice the results with half the effort. We might even be able to finish all of elementary school in one year."

On one hand, they faced domination by a high-and-mighty, super-intelligent academic genius. On the other, they could shorten their "prison sentence" at school. The kids were truly caught in a dilemma.

"Why don’t we just listen to Sister Yun?"

Third was the mastermind of their group of friends, a true strategist.

He could basically decide things on his own. As long as he laid out his reasoning, the rest of the group would almost never refuse.

Now, everyone looked at him, waiting for a reasonable explanation.
