Chapter 277: Chapter 267: Apocalypse Garbage Dump
Tang Mo watched the conflict unfold and couldn’t help but curl her lips into a smile.
’How interesting.’
She originally thought this would be a simple, relaxing trip for herself, but she never expected to run into something so interesting. It really wasn’t a wasted journey.
S Base was considered one of the better environments in the apocalypse, completely covered by greenery that had grown up in the later stages.
Its geographical environment was also excellent—defensible and well-suited for launching attacks.
Tang Mo wouldn’t have believed for a second that such a prime location hadn’t been set up in advance, before the apocalypse even began.
The Apocalypse Garbage Dump, however, was different. For some unknown reason, it was the only place not overrun by greenery—the last remnant of industrial civilization.
Because of this, much of the later garbage with nowhere else to go was dumped there, and the place gradually became a massive junkyard.
It was extremely far from S Base. The leader, a man with a floral tattoo sleeve named Zhang Chao, saw that everyone had arrived and led them to board two small helicopters separately.
He boarded one with the ten diggers, while the ten newly recruited people took the other.
These two helicopters were very small, completely different from the one Tang Mo had taken with Qin Ling before.
They looked more like makeshift versions, clearly self-modified.
The ten diggers said nothing and silently boarded the helicopter, but the new recruits hesitated one by one.
’Who knows if this thing is even safe...’
However, the thought of getting a Space Treasure for such a simple mission spurred them on. As the saying goes, a great reward incites great courage. They decided to make the best of it, steeled their nerves, and stepped onto the helicopter.
Having just spoken harshly to Zhang Chao, Qin Fen naturally boarded without hesitation.
When the helicopter took off, everyone’s previous fear was swept away, replaced by excitement as they pressed against the windows to look down.
Not everyone gets the chance to ride in a helicopter, so it was only natural to feel a sense of novelty.
Tang Mo, on the other hand, closed her eyes and leaned against the bulkhead behind her to rest. Even by helicopter, the trip to the Apocalypse Garbage Dump would take at least four hours. She could only pass the time by sleeping.
Tang Mo didn’t know the backgrounds of the people here and wasn’t sure if there was a Spirit Attribute Superpower User among them, so she had no intention of training her spiritual power on the helicopter.
’Judging by the current situation, who knows what will happen when we get there. It’s best not to make any rash moves.’
Qin Fen, who often took helicopters for fun, also closed his eyes to avoid the annoyance of watching the unsophisticated crowd.
It was also Wenqing’s first time in a helicopter, and she was dying to see the view outside. But seeing that both Qin Fen and Tang Mo had closed their eyes, she stopped looking out, afraid that others would think she was an uncultured country bumpkin.
Knowing it was a long journey, everyone had brought rations. About halfway through the trip, they started taking out their food to eat.
Tang Mo also took a bottle of water and a chocolate bar from her backpack and started eating.
By the time the helicopter slowly landed, it was already approaching dusk.
Tang Mo glanced at the ID Watch on her wrist. It had taken a full six hours to get here.
Stepping out of the helicopter’s cabin door, she was greeted by a desolate scene.
Gravel and ruined walls stretched out before them, with piles of unknown machine parts lying around like scrap metal. The ground beneath their feet was littered with fallen signboards.
Every single one of these things testified to a former glory that had now become a thing of the past in the blink of an eye.
The transformation from treasure to trash was completed in such a short time.
Tang Mo watched her step carefully. The ground was covered in gravel, nails, and plastic fragments. A single moment of carelessness could get your shoe sole pierced, leaving you with a bloody foot.
Most of these people had heard of the Apocalypse Garbage Dump, but this was their first time actually coming here.
The visual impact was immense. Everything in sight was broken, and even the air was thick with the stench of decay.
When Zhang Chao got off with the diggers, however, his eyes lit up. It was his first time here as well.
Everyone focuses on different things. The first thing he saw was the scrap metal scattered all over the ground. This was exactly what they were looking for!
He had originally thought it would all be buried underground and require excavation, but he never expected to find so much of it right out in the open. It was a complete windfall.
Who knew how many times more valuable all this steel would be after being taken back and reforged.
After successfully dropping them off, the helicopters quickly departed, leaving the twenty-one people standing alone amidst the vast expanse of rubble.
"Alright everyone, don’t just stand around. Let’s get to work now!"
With a wave of his hand, Zhang Chao pulled numerous tools out of his Space. The ten diggers rushed forward to grab the ones they were most comfortable with, then split into groups of three to start collecting metal.
The remaining digger grabbed some tools and stayed by Zhang Chao’s side like a lackey.
"We just spent over six hours in a helicopter. You’ve got to let us rest for a bit. You can’t just work people like this."
Among the ten recruits, there was only one woman besides Tang Mo and Wenqing. She was the one who spoke out dissatisfactorily to Zhang Chao.
On the helicopter, Tang Mo had overheard them talking and learned that this woman’s name was Lin Xin. She was an agility attribute superpower user who, according to herself, was the leader of a small team and had also come for the Space Treasure.
"Not satisfied? If you’re not satisfied, you can walk back right now. No one’s stopping you."
Zhang Chao’s previously polite attitude vanished, and his expression turned cold.
’Now that the helicopters are gone, they have no way of getting back even if they wanted to,’ he thought. ’They have no choice but to stay here and work obediently.’
That’s right, a distance that took six hours by helicopter wasn’t something a person could easily walk. Zhang Chao figured none of these people had the ability to call a helicopter for themselves.
’As for Qin Fen...’
’If he wants to leave now, he’s free to go.’
’But if he doesn’t leave now... then he’ll have no one to blame but himself for what comes next.’
Seeing Zhang Chao’s expression change so quickly, several of the recruits became furious.
But right now, there was nothing they could do. Besides, seeing that every three-man team of diggers had a Space Treasure among them—a clear display of immense wealth—made them even more expectant of their own reward.
They thought, ’Whatever.’ They had already mentally prepared for the trip to the Apocalypse Garbage Dump to be a tough job, so working a little earlier or later didn’t make much difference. One by one, they dispersed and joined the digger teams.
Their job was to help with anything that couldn’t be dug out and to immediately draw their weapons and deal with any small mutant beasts living in the junkyard.
Everyone moved quickly and efficiently. No one wanted to spend a single extra day in this garbage dump.
Except for Qin Fen and Wenqing, of course. The two of them seemed to be on vacation, having found a relatively clean boulder to sit on and watch the show.
