Chapter 432: Chapter 422: Pingping and An’an
Wen Qianli’s door wasn’t locked. Since she’d held out hope that someone would come looking for her children if something happened to her, she naturally wouldn’t have locked it.
Tang Mo pushed the door open and went inside. The apartment was under two hundred square meters, which was considered one of the smaller units in this residential complex.
The apartment was decorated in vast swathes of pink and white, like a little princess’s room. It didn’t look at all like a place where a mother of two lived.
Walking further in, Tang Mo saw a large portrait hanging on the wall. In it, a woman with bright eyes, pearly teeth, and delicate features wore a pink tulle skirt, looking just like a young girl fresh out of college.
Then again, to say she *looked* like one wasn’t quite appropriate, because Wen Qianli really was just a young girl fresh out of college.
If she hadn’t seen the portrait, Tang Mo would have forgotten that someone Wen Qianli’s age was meant to still be a princess.
’She was the perfect example of someone who was dealt a great hand and played it terribly.’
Hearing no crying, Tang Mo pushed open the doors to each room, one by one. She finally found two tightly bundled children in a bedroom.
The two children were in large, one-piece sleep sacks, lying on the bed with their eyes wide open. They looked absolutely pitiful.
’Why aren’t they crying? It’s been so long. They must be hungry and thirsty by now.’
Tang Mo stepped closer and saw that the children’s faces were covered in tear tracks mixed with snot and drool, so filthy she couldn’t even tell their original skin color.
There were also cloth strips tied to their wrists. Wen Qianli had evidently tied her little daughters to the bed before she left, afraid they might crawl around and fall.
At first, Tang Mo had wondered why the two little girls weren’t crying. But seeing their state, she immediately understood. It wasn’t that they hadn’t cried; they had clearly cried for so long that their throats were raw, and they simply couldn’t make a sound anymore.
Now, seeing someone enter the room, the two little ones started to cry again. They struggled to crawl toward Tang Mo, mumbling, "Mama..."
Seeing the two babies reach for her, even Tang Mo’s heart ached.
She reached out to stroke their heads but didn’t pick them up. Instead, she moved quickly around the room, gathering their daily supplies.
She packed some everyday clothes, diapers, baby bottles, and a few small toys and blankets.
Once everything was packed into the backpack on her back, she scooped up one baby in each arm and walked out of the room.
This time, as she left, Tang Mo activated a Protective Shield of spiritual power. She wasn’t worried about the few-minute journey for herself, but the babies wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Perhaps because they had been neglected for so long and felt deeply aggrieved, the two little ones showed no resistance toward Tang Mo. They simply rested obediently on her shoulders.
And just like that, Tang Mo brought the two children home.
The Xu Family’s home was dark and quiet; Xu Jinsan and his wife were clearly already asleep.
Tang Mo had no intention of waking them, so she brought the two children into her own room.
She had taken care of Yangyang before, so she wasn’t a stranger to looking after little children.
She expertly raised the temperature on the room’s climate control and removed the impossibly filthy sleep sacks from the two children.
Wen Qianli had put diapers on them before she left, but after nearly two days, they had long since lost their effectiveness. The children were utterly soiled.
Unfazed by the mess, Tang Mo carried them into her private bathroom and gave them a bath.
Perhaps sensing that Tang Mo meant them no harm, the two children were incredibly well-behaved. They didn’t even resist when she washed their hair, merely shutting their eyes tightly.
"Mama."
One of them opened her eyes and looked at Tang Mo with adoration, likely mistaking her for her mother.
"I’m not your mom. She’s gone now—she went to find food for you."
Tang Mo said this while quickly toweling them off and drying their hair.
’If Wen Qianli knew from beyond the grave that her children were calling someone else "Mama" just a day after she left, she’d probably be angry enough to come back to life.’
After changing them into clean clothes, Tang Mo mixed some formula with warm water for the two babies.
The two little ones didn’t even need to be fed; they each held their own bottle, lying on the bed and drinking eagerly.
Tang Mo gathered all the soiled clothes and other trash into a large garbage bag, planning to throw it out the next day.
They had been terribly hungry. Even after each finishing a full bottle, they still seemed to want more.
But it wasn’t good for them to eat too much at once, so Tang Mo took the bottles away.
By the time Tang Mo finished her chores and looked back at the bed, the two little ones were already fast asleep.
’They really are Angel babies,’ Tang Mo thought, very pleased with their behavior. ’They’re so well-behaved. It should be easy for Mrs. Xu to look after them in the future.’
’Then again, Mrs. Xu is the epitome of a virtuous wife and good mother. Raising children should be a simple matter for her.’
Watching the two sleeping babies, Tang Mo’s mind wandered through all sorts of thoughts. Finally, overcome with exhaustion, she lay down beside them and fell asleep.
Perhaps because she wasn’t used to sleeping next to two wriggling little bodies, Tang Mo woke up very early the next day.
When she went to the living room for a drink of water, Xu Jinsan and his wife were watching television.
Mrs. Xu seemed normal enough, but the worried expression on Xu Jinsan’s face was becoming impossible to hide.
"Mom, Dad, I have something to tell you."
Seeing Xu Jinsan’s expression, Tang Mo decided to speak.
"What is it, Xiao Yin?"
Her serious expression made Xu Jinsan and his wife a little worried.
"I went out last night and brought something back."
"You went out? It’s so dangerous outside! Xiao Yin, are you alright?"
Xu Jinsan’s concern was palpable as he looked his daughter up and down.
"Xiao Yin, we still have enough food at home. I’ve been rationing it carefully. You must not risk your life going out to find more," Mrs. Xu said urgently.
"Come and see."
Tang Mo led the two of them into her room.
The two little babies were sprawled out on Tang Mo’s large bed, fast asleep. With their fair, pinkish cheeks and long eyelashes, they were utterly adorable.
"This is...?" Xu Jinsan asked, astonished by the scene.
"These are Wen Qianli’s two daughters. Oh my, they’re even cuter in person than they were in the video!"
Mrs. Xu was the first to react, stepping forward to get a closer look at the two babies.
"Xiao Yin, you..."
Mr. Xu’s gaze softened as he looked at his daughter. He knew she wasn’t one to meddle in others’ affairs; she must have brought the children back because she saw how down he was.
’As expected of my daughter,’ he thought. ’She’s even kinder than I am.’
Now, seeing the two babies sleeping peacefully with his own eyes, Xu Jinsan’s heart was finally at ease.
"I don’t know their names yet, so let’s call them Pingping and An’an."
Tang Mo said as she watched the two babies, now given a new lease on life. Pingping and An’an. Their names came from the phrase for "safe and sound"—because being safe was more important than anything.
