Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 487: Reunion

Qin Ling had been in the tent for five days. In all that time, he had barely stepped outside, not even to use the restroom.

He was afraid Tang Mo would suddenly wake up, open her eyes, and find no one there—or that the first person she saw wouldn’t be him.

Even though everyone said the chances of Momo waking up again were slim.

The prolonged lack of rest and food had left Qin Ling’s mind hazy. He sat by Tang Mo’s side, holding her hand with one of his, while the other propped up his head.

In his daze, Qin Ling thought he saw Momo open her eyes.

It wasn’t the first time he had imagined this happening. He couldn’t help but smile, then closed his eyes again.

‘If only I could dream right now. A dream about her would be perfect.’

‘Dream of her opening her eyes, of her holding my hand.’

As his thoughts drifted, Qin Ling felt himself fall asleep. In his dream, a small hand was truly gripping his own, warm and vibrant and full of Life Force.

Qin Ling lost himself in the dream, until the hand holding his seemed to pinch him hard.

He snapped his eyes open. ‘Could a dream really be this realistic? Can you even feel pain this clearly?’

But when he opened his eyes, he saw Tang Mo already sitting up, her face etched with worry and a hint of sadness.

From Tang Mo’s perspective:

She had seen Qin Ling notice her open her eyes. He’d even given her a dopey smile. But before she could say anything, he had actually closed his eyes and kept on smiling like an idiot.

Tang Mo: …

‘This is bad, this is really bad. The poor guy must have gone mad with grief at the thought of losing such a wonderful girlfriend.’

‘I wonder if there’s a cure for a broken brain…’

For some reason, the image of the brainless, red-eyed monsters from the Illusion World popped into her head.

A fresh wave of worry and sorrow washed over her.

“Momo?”

Qin Ling called out, his voice uncertain. He rubbed his eyes forcefully, and when that didn’t feel like enough, he pinched himself hard.

When Qin Ling pulled out his dagger, about to slice his own arm, Tang Mo shot out a hand to stop him.

“It’s me. I’m okay.”

Tang Mo grabbed his arm.

“You’re really awake! You’re okay!”

Pure, explosive joy erupted across Qin Ling’s face. All the emotions he had suppressed for so long burst forth uncontrollably, like a dam breaking.

He gripped Tang Mo’s shoulders, looking her over carefully before pulling her into a fierce hug.

“I missed you so much.”

Just five short words, but behind them lay endless heartache, grievance, and sorrow.

Tang Mo had been about to struggle against the tightness of his embrace, but when she heard those words, her heart melted. She let him hold her.

Regaining what was lost is perhaps the most beautiful feeling in the world.

Soon enough, however, Qin Ling released her and stared at her face.

“Are you really okay? You look a little down. Is your body still weak? Are there any side effects?”

Looking at Qin Ling’s face, Tang Mo wasn’t sure if she should ruin the wonderful atmosphere by answering his question.

In the end, his worried gaze won out.

“I’m fine,” Tang Mo said. “It’s just that, um… a moment ago, I thought you’d become an idiot.”

Qin Ling: …

The beauty of their reunion, all those romantic pink bubbles… POP. In that instant, they all shattered.

Tang Mo had just woken up. After lying down for so many days, her body was a little numb and needed some time to adjust.

Qin Ling had been sitting beside her for so long that he couldn’t stand up right away either.

By tacit agreement, neither of them mentioned telling the others outside the good news.

“Help me move a bit,” Tang Mo said. “I can’t stand up. I want to wait until I can stand and walk on my own before I go out and surprise everyone.”

“Okay,” said Qin Ling. “Wait for me to get my legs working, too. I can’t stand up either.”

Tang Mo: …

The look on Tang Mo’s face grew even more tragic. ‘His brain being fried is one thing, but please don’t let him be crippled too! If that happened, I’d really be a monster!’

Because she had spent several days getting used to controlling her body within her sea of consciousness, Tang Mo was able to slowly get to her feet with Qin Ling’s help.

She steadied herself with his arm and paced around the tent. Soon enough, Tang Mo was moving with ease.

“Let’s go. We should tell them the good news.”

Once she felt she had recovered enough, Tang Mo lifted the tent flap and stepped outside.

Qin Ling looked a little sullen. He wanted to spend more time with Momo; he hadn’t had nearly enough.

“Come on, let’s go.”

When Tang Mo saw Qin Ling wasn’t following, she just assumed his reaction time had slowed down too. Her heart ached for him all the more, and she resolved to take good care of him from now on.

Tang Mo went back into the tent, took Qin Ling by the hand, and led him out again.

Qin Ling saw Tang Mo’s small hand on his wrist and felt completely content.

The atmosphere outside the tent was a world away from the one inside. Immersed in the sorrow of nearly losing Tang Mo, everyone had lingered, unwilling to leave, creating a deeply oppressive mood.

Even little Yangyang seemed to have matured overnight, sitting quietly to one side each day while hugging Zhima.

“Everyone, I’m back!”

Tang Mo’s face was wreathed in smiles, showing no trace of the frailty one would expect from someone who had been bedridden and on the brink of death.

Qin Ling looked at the girl holding his hand and felt she had changed somehow. It was as if some inner shadow had been swept away, leaving her more radiant and open.

A Momo like this was even more charming, more captivating.

Wen Jianshu, Sect Leader Lin Yu, and a few others were outside. They all stared at the scene before them as if in a dream.

Wen Jianshu was the first to react. Without a word, he bolted into Lin Yi’s tent.

Lin Yi had fallen ill after their last plan failed and had been lying in her tent ever since.

Even the Sect Leader’s presence had been no help; after all, no miracle doctor can cure a sickness of the heart.

“Honey! Honey, get up! Momo’s awake! Momo’s awake!”

Even through the tent walls, everyone could hear the sheer volume of Wen Jianshu’s voice and the raw emotion in it. He had completely lost his usual scholarly composure.

“Sister, I missed you so much!”

The first to snap out of it was actually Yangyang. Seeing that his sister was finally out of bed after sleeping for so long, he scurried over on his short little legs and hugged Tang Mo’s thigh.

Tang Mo let go of Qin Ling’s hand for a moment, smiling as she picked up the little guy. Then, she walked toward her mother’s tent.

By now, Lin Yi had heard Wen Jianshu’s shouts and was about to rush outside without even bothering to put on her shoes.

Just as she reached the entrance, she saw her daughter walking in, holding her son.

Lin Yi stared at her daughter, standing perfectly healthy before her, and was stunned into silence, unable to process it for a long moment.

By the time she came to her senses, tears had already soaked the front of her clothes.
