Transmigration: Space-Aided Rise to Power and Prosperity

Chapter 1284 - 1120: Avalanche

Chapter 1284: Chapter 1120: Avalanche

There was no helping it—Luobsang was wearing armor. Apart from his hands and face, his upper body had no gaps at all. For Gu Chengyu, to pierce that armor without using much Inner Strength was an extremely difficult task.

When Luobsang saw another wound appear on his leg, he couldn’t help growing even more enraged.

This man was simply bullying him too far. If this man’s combat strength were just slightly above his, then even if he fought him with ease it would still be hard to seriously injure him—that would be understandable. But this effortless, leisurely attitude made it obvious he only wanted to toy with him.

Luobsang glanced behind Gu Chengyu. The drumbeat still thundered, dense and unbroken, yet he kept feeling something was wrong—what was that faint sound of footsteps?

"Charge for this General!" Luobsang, though somewhat hesitant, still gave the order.

As soon as he shouted, he felt it was safer to move the original plan up. The Seventh Prince had said this man was full of tricks; at this moment, who knew what vicious scheme he was brewing!

Hearing this, Gu Chengyu suddenly drew a deep breath, pouring all his Inner Strength into his sword.

"Ugh!" Luobsang’s eyes bulged wide. Staring at the sword before his chest, the instant he felt the stab of pain, his disbelief was boundless.

He came to his senses and used his long spear to knock the sword aside, clamping a hand over the wound on his chest. Blood gushed out between his fingers; he cast Gu Chengyu a horrified look.

The armor he wore was made of copper—if the long sword could pierce his armor, what kind of profound skill did that require?

He was all the more certain that this man had been toying with him before; otherwise, how could he be so much stronger now than he had been just moments ago?

Gu Chengyu’s eyes sharpened; sword raised, he surged forward to attack again. Luobsang’s chest had already been pierced by him, so he kept seeking an opening, focusing all his strikes on that spot.

That thrust had gone in quite deep; Luobsang felt a dull ache in his chest. Struggling to fend off Gu Chengyu’s attacks, he tore the wound open, making the blood flow all the more freely.

Listening to the chaotic footsteps coming from ahead, Gu Chengyu knew the time had come.

He swung in a horizontal slash, aiming straight at Luobsang’s face. Luobsang couldn’t block in time; he gave a miserable scream as a burning pain seared his eyes.

"My eyes! My eyes!" Luobsang went berserk, flailing his long spear wildly—no semblance of technique remained.

Gu Chengyu gave him a glance and knew this man was no longer a threat. He shouted toward Ming Yan behind him, "Bring the bow up here!"

"Yes!" Ming Yan immediately turned and sprinted forward.

"Hurry and bring the bow up!"

Ignoring the wildly flailing Luobsang, Gu Chengyu instead rode toward the enemy formation.

"It’s not the General!" The enemy soldiers, hearing hoofbeats, thought their General had returned in triumph.

Only when the hoofbeats came closer did they see that it was a man in dark close-fitting clothes, wearing a bamboo hat.

Gu Chengyu judged the distance and felt this was about right—these men had already entered the lower-lying section of the terrain.

Ming Yan watched as Yang Xiaoguang and the others pushed a cart up a small rise, with a Big Bow mounted on top. Then he turned and ran back to where they had been just now.

Luobsang had been knocked aside by their lord, but he wasn’t dead yet! Ming Yan had to go add a few more sword strikes; otherwise, if someone else picked up that advantage, it would be a loss.

"It’s the enemy! The enemy is lying in ambush here!"

"Damn it! Fall back! Fall back!" Seeing the Big Bow being pushed into place, the Da Xing soldiers didn’t know what exactly the enemy meant to do, but they instantly sensed danger.

Gu Chengyu’s lips curled in a smile—too late! He kicked off the ground and flew toward the Big Bow.

The bow weighed over five hundred jin, but for Gu Chengyu, drawing it to full was no strain.

"General Gu, this bow is far too heavy..." Yang Xiaoguang was somewhat worried, but before he could finish speaking, he saw that Gu Chengyu had already pulled the bow fully open. Using an iron long spear as the arrow, he loosed it toward the enemy.

The enemy soldiers were stunned; they couldn’t understand why halfway through the charge they’d been ordered to retreat. Still, a few sharp-minded men were among them, and in any case they were just rank-and-file—they naturally obeyed orders from above.

"Retreat!" After that one shot, Gu Chengyu swung into the saddle and galloped back the way he’d come. His iron cavalry trampled over enemy soldiers; anyone who tried to block him received no mercy. The horse thundered ahead, and wherever he passed, blood and gore followed.

"Run! There’s a snow avalanche!" Behind Gu Chengyu, a tumult erupted, chaos boiling over like a pot.

Ming Yan came racing toward Gu Chengyu, carrying Luobsang’s severed head.

"Turn around, run!" Gu Chengyu waved both hands at Ming Yan. That fool—did he not know a snow avalanche was coming, and still he ran back?

Seeing that his lord was unharmed, Ming Yan finally relaxed. He wheeled his horse and charged back along the route they’d come.

The avalanche’s force was immense; their own army had already run seven or eight li, yet they could still feel the shaking. Qi Huan Yu had originally been heading for the battlefield, planning to reap some spoils in the confusion, but the horse refused to go forward no matter what.

Once he felt the tremors, he immediately changed direction. Damn it—an avalanche!

"Move! Avalanche!" Qi Huan Yu shouted to their troops.

He lashed the horse’s rump with several hard strokes, wishing he could sprout wings like a bird and fly twenty li back.

Gu Chengyu knew the army couldn’t possibly retreat twenty li in time, but he had already surveyed the terrain. Naturally, he would never let their own troops be buried alongside the enemy—this kind of "kill a thousand enemies, lose eight hundred of your own" tactic was for idiots.

He knew there was a fork in the road up ahead. The path they’d started on was relatively gentle and wasn’t the main branch—it veered off somewhat. The other side was a slope, and a steep one at that.

Thus, when the avalanche came, this path would be much safer. As long as they ran ten li out, their lives would be secure.

Riding hard, Gu Chengyu fled for his life, listening to the sky-splitting, earth-shattering roar behind him and marveling at the power of nature.

Qi Huan Yu watched as Gu Chengyu rode past him; his temple twitched. Even an avalanche this massive hadn’t managed to swallow that man?

"Keep running!" In truth, horseback was far slower than the speed of an avalanche; it was just that by the time the collapsing snow reached this route, both its speed and volume were greatly reduced compared to earlier.

Gu Chengyu soon caught up to the troops ahead. Seeing the soldiers running themselves to breathlessness, he knew this was their limit.

"My lord! We should be safe here!" Ming Yan glanced back and saw that the avalanche hadn’t caught up at all, so he called out to Gu Chengyu at once.

Gu Chengyu reined in his horse and looked behind. There was still nothing but a vast whiteness. The battlefield where Gu Chengyu had just fought lay deathly still, only the ragged gasps of the soldiers around him breaking the silence.

At last the snow stopped. Everyone collapsed where they stood.

Qi Huan Yu also spurred his horse up beside Gu Chengyu. When he saw the severed head in Ming Yan’s hand, he was instantly stunned.

"You actually took Luobsang’s head?" His gaze swung to Ming Yan, strange lights flickering in his eyes.
