Chapter 1719: Chapter 674: Ivan’s Strange Encounter_2

Click, click, click, the sound echoed continuously.

But the Frozen Storage remained motionless.

Knock, knock, knock.

The sound of knocking echoed in his ears.

He opened his eyes in confusion, thinking how bizarre this was.

His frozen chamber boasted imperial-level security, and the security personnel knew his temperament too well to disturb his frozen slumber unnecessarily.

Could it be some major incident?

Or had Jin Shi finished up ahead of schedule?

With a hint of confusion and inexplicable anticipation, Ivan opened the frozen storage, sat up straight, and then opened the door to the chamber. freⅇ

A stranger stood outside.

He was a young man with clean, short hair, deep-set eyes, a tall posture, and a faint smile on his face.

Duke Ivan was slightly taken aback, as a strange thought crossed his mind. Who is this young man, and why do I feel overpowered by him in our gaze? What is this inexplicable sense of pressure?

"Who are you? Who sent you? Why aren’t you wearing a security uniform?"

Duke Ivan bombarded him with a series of questions.

Ren Zhong shrugged. "I overestimated you. I imagined you, like me, as a rightful Chosen One of the Empire, one of the real power holders in the former Empire’s Intelligence Directorate, to be incredibly poised, unflinching in the face of disaster. You should have the aura of a superior. Seeing my unfamiliar face, your first reaction should be to stabilize me with words, then immediately alert the security through your wrist watch. But you did none of that. Your behavior now is truly disappointing. You’re still quite ordinary, even so ordinary to be somewhat mediocre, yet you can sit in the Duke’s seat arrogantly, causing trouble for countless people."

Once Ren Zhong revealed his identity as a Chosen One, Ivan finally found the familiar features on his face and guessed Ren Zhong’s identity.

Back when Ren Zhong was still Earl Red Blade, Ivan had already noticed this rising noble close to Jin Shi because of Sena Romanov’s connection and was extremely cautious of him.

But so much time had passed since then, and Ren Zhong and his Red Blade Clan have been missing for too long. Within the Empire, although many still believed the Red Blade Marquises as a Chosen One could not have died easily and must be on some secret mission, the Empire’s high command just chose to keep it confidential.

Yet there was another group of truly high-ranking individuals who knew the Red Blade Army had indeed mysteriously vanished.

Duke Wenle was the one who handed the black USB drive to Sena Romanov. He knew the "truth" about the disappearance of the Red Blade Army.

He firmly believed that Ren Zhong had long since died and had thus erased him from his mind entirely.

Ren Zhong still maintained an air of absolute control and continued, "See, you finally realized who I am. Yet your subsequent reactions are just as ordinary. Only after my reminder did you think of trying to alert security with your wrist watch. But haven’t you thought, since I suddenly appeared before you and declared my identity, I came prepared? You should’ve realized that alerting security is already meaningless now."

After speaking, Ren Zhong suddenly lifted his right hand, pinched Ivan’s neck, lifted him, and walked inside, closing the door with his left hand.

Among ordinary people, Ivan Romanov was considered strong, but compared to Ren Zhong, unquestionably the number one human warrior, he was insignificant.

In the instant his neck was grasped, Ivan Romanov lost the strength to resist.

He felt utterly weak, unable even to move a finger.

Ren Zhong casually tossed Ivan to the floor, pulled over a chair, sat down, crossed his legs, and did not hurry to speak but merely looked down at Ivan condescendingly.

Ivan’s heart was filled with anxiety as he frantically guessed Ren Zhong’s intention, trying to find a way to survive.

If he could understand what Ren Zhong most wanted to achieve, Ivan believed he still had hope of surviving.

Ever since becoming a Chosen One, he was well aware of the terrors associated with them. He was a "researcher" type Chosen One, his brain able to spontaneously generate knowledge – a gift from the universe.

And Ren Zhong was, evidently, one of those legendary figures, probably just the second all-around Chosen One up to this point.
