Chapter 568 - 239: Interlude and Worldly Anomaly

Chapter 568: Chapter 239: Interlude and Worldly Anomaly

The last item was a special Identity Token.

It was about five inches long and pitch-black. Inscribed on the front were five large words: See the token, see the man.

The back was divided into two parts, an upper and a lower section.

An unrecognizable rune was carved on the top, while the bottom had the character for ’yang’ written in Ancient Spirit Language.

"How can I be running into Ancient Spirit Language here, too?"

It was only because Xiao Chen had seen the exact same script before on Celestial Star Island that he could recognize it; otherwise, he truly wouldn’t have known what it meant.

If he wasn’t mistaken, this Token was likely used for some sort of covert activity.

’Whatever. I’ll just hold onto it for now and see what happens.’

Xiao Chen put away the Token, erased all traces he had left from breaking the Restriction, and, for good measure, incinerated Wang Qianghu and his Storage Ring, reducing them to ash.

The reason he burned the Storage Ring along with the body was that the Storage Rings from the Cangming Immortal Sect were of a special, standardized design.

Carrying it would be a hassle, and selling it would be difficult, so he figured he might as well just get rid of it.

With that little interruption dealt with, Xiao Chen changed direction and resumed his flight north.

Guided by his newly updated Nautical Chart, he successfully avoided areas where disasters were likely to occur.

Along the way, he made use of the various large and small islands as rest stops, which saved him a great deal of time and effort, making the journey much easier.

「Half a month passed in the blink of an eye.」

After leaving the Cangming Sea, he entered the territory of the Celestial Spirit Sect. Further north lay the domain of the Mojie Sect.

One day, Xiao Chen happened to be passing by Mozhang Peak and immediately felt its reputation was well-deserved.

Looking down from high above, the treacherous central peak reached a height of ten thousand feet, while the mountain range below it stretched for a thousand li. Gazing into the distance, the faraway mountains truly looked as if they were painted in ink.

In terms of sheer scenic grandeur, it surpassed most terrestrial landscapes.

Xiao Chen had traveled through most of the Southern Domain, but he had never encountered such a magnificent sight.

Continuing north from Mozhang Peak, he arrived in the territory of what was now the Clarity Sect.

This area had originally been a place where numerous families fought amongst themselves, never achieving unity.

Looking back now, it was very likely that all that strife was just for show.

To be cautious, Xiao Chen had no intention of passing through their territory and had already planned a detour.

It was best to keep a respectful distance from such a new and rising power, lest he unwittingly violate one of their taboos.

The main reason was that doing so would likely cause a significant delay.

However, as Xiao Chen was halfway through his detour to the west, he saw a great deal of snow falling up ahead.

Snow itself wasn’t particularly strange, but as far as his eyes could see, it was a heavy blizzard.

It was so heavy that he could see a layer of ice had formed on the sea’s surface about three hundred li ahead.

’Huh? What’s going on now?’

Xiao Chen opened his Nautical Chart to check, but it wasn’t that he had remembered incorrectly.

The Nautical Chart showed no anomalies in this area, which meant that about a month or so ago, it probably hadn’t started snowing here yet.

None of his other intelligence mentioned it either; he had stumbled upon a newly emerged celestial phenomenon.

.

’Tsk, don’t tell me I have to go around the other way?’

Xiao Chen tried flying two hundred li further west, but he still couldn’t see the end of the snow, making it difficult to determine the storm’s scope.

But if he were to turn back now and take the detour to the east instead, the trip back and forth would basically add an extra half a month to his journey.

’Why did it have to start snowing all of a sudden?’

Xiao Chen tried to investigate, but the snowflakes in the outer region were identical to ordinary ones; at least, he couldn’t see any difference.

So, he decided to press on. ’It’s probably just a simple celestial phenomenon. No need to take a detour.’

A celestial phenomenon of this scale was rare, but there was no need to be overly alarmed.

The cultivation world had always been full of strange occurrences, like the Yellow Wind Valley in Li State, the thunderstorms in the Boundary Sea, or the great rain in the northwestern Compassion Sea that lasted for two straight years.

Many such phenomena had existed since ancient times with no known cause. The crucial thing was whether or not they would bring danger.

If there was danger, they became treacherous lands or full-blown disasters.

If there was no danger, they would instead become a unique scenic attraction.

’Hiss... it’s this vast?’

Xiao Chen flew for more than six thousand li, surrounded by a sky full of snow the entire way, and the temperature continued to drop.

As a Golden Core Cultivator, he was fine, but if a Qi Refining Cultivator were to come here, they likely wouldn’t be able to withstand the invasion of such cold air.

Given enough time, even Foundation Establishment Cultivators would have a hard time surviving here for long.

Honestly, it was a good thing this snowstorm was happening over the sea.

If it were to fall over a stretch of land, it would likely become a large-scale natural disaster.

Even with help from the surrounding sects, many people within their territories would probably starve or freeze to death.

’I hope another treacherous land isn’t about to be born.’

Xiao Chen turned his head to the West, his gaze seeming to pierce through the snow and see for a thousand li.

He could already feel that he was currently on the periphery.

The cold air was clearly coming from even further west. He couldn’t imagine what the situation was like in the core region.

But he had no intention of proactively going to investigate; instead, he silently continued onward.

Curiosity killed the cat, as they say, and Xiao Chen didn’t have nine lives.

After flying further, the temperature began to rise slightly. Another four or five thousand li later, he finally broke through the snowstorm.

This meant that, all told, the snowstorm covered a distance of at least ten thousand li from north to south.

He still didn’t know its east-to-west span, but he estimated it was just as vast.

Such mighty power was truly beyond human capability; not even a Nascent Soul Cultivator could achieve it.

’I wonder when I’ll be able to master such power.’
