Chapter 479: Chapter 467: Law of Metal
The halo of Star Gate Square slowly faded behind him. A familiar tide of Magic Power washed over him, cleansing away the suffocating rhythm of flesh and blood. Allen felt like he was finally "alive" again.
He had returned to Deep Blue Residence E-071.
He didn’t head straight for the Meditation Room. Instead, he simply stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, quietly watching the warm glow of the sun outside.
Any relief from surviving the ordeal? Nonexistent.
His Mechanical Mind had already taken the fear, tension, and exhilaration from winning the final gamble—all of which had spiked to their thresholds during the fatal meeting—and compressed them into an archived file titled "Contact Report: Augustus Valentine."
What he felt now was a clarity about the path ahead.
It was as if he were a mountaineer who had been fumbling in the dark for a long time when a bolt of lightning suddenly split the sky, not only illuminating the path at his feet but also revealing the distant, yet very real, summit.
The blockade of knowledge at the upper echelons of the Wizarding World was too severe. Only now did he have even a partial understanding of the level of an Advanced Wizard.
"Jarvis, assess the value of the knowledge Augustus imparted."
[Cross-referencing against the Association Credit Points system... Assessment complete. This knowledge packet, containing multiple S-class encrypted entries such as ’Dawn Star Ladder,’ ’Three Stages of Law,’ and ’Concept of Authority,’ has an estimated comprehensive value between 12,500 and 15,000 Credit Points.]
Augustus said the knowledge was worth over ten thousand Credit Points.
Based on his mission rewards of three hundred Credit Points per year, this meant that with just a few words, he had saved himself at least thirty-three years of hard labor.
No, it was far more than that.
The value of this kind of guidance, which pointed directly to the core path, simply couldn’t be measured in Credit Points.
Perhaps to an existence on the level of a Moonlight, an experimental concept that could inspire them was indeed worth that price.
’My perspective was too narrow.’
’I, along with the entire Aiselan Plane, might just be a footnote in his experimental logs.’
Allen attempted to create a personal file for Augustus.
The action triggered a pre-set alarm he had configured for Jarvis.
[WARNING: Target’s existence level is too high. Any form of probing or analysis has a 99.99% probability of being detected by the target. All related calculations have been forcibly terminated!]
The only piece of useful information was a single, vague speculation based on environmental analysis: [Suspected Bloodline School].
’I don’t even have the right to analyze him...?’
Allen didn’t dwell on it.
Gazing at the stars was necessary, but keeping his feet on the ground was fundamental.
What he needed to do now was to digest this destiny-altering knowledge and lay the first foundation stone for his own future.
"The path of a Morning Star..." he murmured to himself.
From apprentice to Second-level Wizard, he had always walked the path of "technique." Learning, inscribing, and optimizing were all, in essence, about "using" existing rules.
No matter how strong his Core Witchcraft was, it was still just a more efficient way to leverage the power of the Sea of Magical Power.
But a Morning Star was the beginning of the "Dao."
It was about "understanding" the rules, and ultimately, "becoming" the rules.
"Law..."
Allen extended his right hand, palm facing up.
A silvery stream flowed out and, under his control, rapidly took shape and cooled, transforming into a palm-sized piece of Magic Iron.
This was a basic sleight of hand.
In the past, he would have seen Rune structures, energy conversion efficiency, and material composition.
But now, his gaze seemed to pierce through the surface of this refined iron, seeing something deeper—an intangible, universe-pervading, underlying logic that defined "matter" itself.
"The first stage: touch a Law."
Augustus’s words echoed in his mind.
"Once you touch the ’Law of Metal,’ no metal in the world will hold any secrets from you."
Allen’s heart began to race.
’What does this mean?’
’It means I could instantly analyze the formula of any alloy, no matter how complex.’
’It means I could discern the true nature of any unknown ore at a glance, understanding its most suitable methods of refinement and application.’
His mentor, Mercer Iron Star, had a ten-thousand-meter-tall Giant Golem, and Allen had never been able to understand how its main structure could withstand its own terrifying weight during combat.
Now he understood. It wasn’t any naturally occurring metal at all, but a super-material that had been enhanced and had its physical properties distorted by the "Law of Metal"!
"The second stage: apply the Law. Make iron as hard as diamond, and give Gold the fluidity of mercury."
Allen’s breathing grew ragged.
’This is the true power of the Alchemy School! It’s like the abilities of the gods from my past life!’
Conventional Golem manufacturing was limited by the physical properties of the materials themselves.
But if he could apply the Law, he could easily create armor that was extremely light yet stronger than any known alloy. He could effortlessly build the unscientific Iron Man-style suits from movies.
He could forge skeletons that could switch between liquid and solid states at will, achieving perfect transformation—he’d basically have liquid-metal robots!
He could even imbue ordinary metals with a "memory" property, allowing battle-damaged Golems to restore themselves to their original state after a fight. Imagine the maintenance costs he would save!
"The third stage... rewrite the Law."
A fire called ambition flickered in Allen’s eyes.
"To create, from nothing, a completely new metal that has never existed in the universe."
’The possibilities are endless.’ His mind began to run wild.
’A metal that could devour energy to self-replicate?’
’A metal that could house a soul, allowing a Golem to function without a Control Core?’
’A conceptual metal with no fixed form, existing between the virtual and the real, capable of transforming into energy?’
’I could bring to life all those metals from works of fiction!’
"The Law of Metal..." Allen clenched his fist, and the piece of Magic Iron in his palm dissipated. "You will be my first Law."
It was the Law most suited to his path, and the one he was most confident in being able to touch.
Augustus had specifically mentioned the "Law of Metal," which was clearly the most mainstream and safest choice for the Alchemy School.
Allen never went for the unconventional. His entire knowledge system, his Weisren Heavy Industry, his path of the Golem Legion—all were built upon the application of countless metallic materials.
Choosing the Law of Metal was a natural progression.
As for the other two Laws, it was too early to think about them now.
He would need to ascend to Morning Star and stand on higher ground to see them more clearly.
’And then there’s "Authority"...’
Allen stored this term, along with "Moonlight," at the very top of his memory palace.
That was a vista for the next era.
Pulling his thoughts back, Allen’s gaze became calm and sharp once more.
The grand blueprint had been drawn, but every step toward the summit had to be paved with sweat and resources.
He only had five years left.
Time was his most precious resource right now.
In five years, he had to complete the final construction of the artificial soul, finish the theoretical derivation of the Core Witchcraft [Consciousness Upload], and completely wring out the last bit of value from the Aiselan Plane.
Allen turned, space rippled, and his figure vanished from the Deep Blue Residence.
...
Bark was dressed in an ornate, luxurious Wizard Robe. Behind him stood two other Alchemy Wizards, their auras similarly potent. The background appeared to be some kind of private reception area.
A slightly stiff-looking projection appeared in the center of the living room.
"What is it? Spit it out. I’m busy over here."
"Your Excellency, it’s about a new company called Weisren Heavy Industry..."
"Just a mere Second-level Wizard? Understood. I’ll be back in about six years. I’ll deal with it then."
