Chapter 551: Chapter 535: Purgatory Inspection Tour
Mammon quickly agreed to Allen’s meeting invitation, but Sargeras’s soul flame nearly snuffed out from sheer terror on the spot.
"An order in the tens of millions? A face-to-face meeting?" Sargeras panicked inwardly. "Does this new master even know what kind of place Purgatory is? It’s the very embodiment of chaos and destruction, the most notorious cesspool in the universe. At the very bottom of Purgatory, there are even Moonlight Level demons! If he goes and never comes back... what will happen to me?"
Allen replenished the consumed materials, and the eerie green Sacrificial Array lit up once more.
"Master, you..." Sargeras watched Allen’s movements. "Do you really intend to..."
"I’m going there personally," Allen said, his tone flat.
"No! Absolutely not!" Sargeras panicked completely, his Soul Flame thrashing wildly. "Master, that is Mammon’s Palace of Greed! It’s the 7th Floor of Purgatory! It’s crawling with High-tier Demons! The Alchemy Puppet you’re currently using only has the energy level of a Second-level Wizard; going there is suicide! Demons have absolutely no credibility!"
"I have my own plans."
"Master!" Sargeras continued to howl. "Mammon will rip your soul out and use it as a sky lantern!"
Allen ignored him entirely, sprinkling the last pinch of crystal powder into the flames. The eerie green fire instantly turned a deep, blood red.
"In the name of Allen Wesren, I answer the invitation of the Greedy Monarch, Mammon."
The blood-red flames shot up into the sky, completely swallowing Allen’s exquisite Alchemy Puppet.
Sargeras stared dumbfounded as Allen vanished before his eyes without hesitation.
"A madman! This Wizard is an absolute, downright madman!" he shrieked internally.
Space tore apart, and a fleeting sense of weightlessness washed over him.
Extreme heat mixed with the pungent stench of sulfur hit his face. Allen found himself standing in the center of a majestic palace.
Beneath his feet was a floor paved with molten Gold. The surrounding load-bearing pillars were stacked with countless wailing giant bones, where agonized, twisted faces flickered in and out of sight, letting out silent screams.
Dozens of High-tier Demons of various sizes, radiating energy fluctuations of at least a Second-level Wizard, stepped out from the shadows of the palace. They surrounded him, their gazes filled with malice and ravenous hunger.
Then, a colossal will locked onto Allen. He looked up.
At the end of the great hall, seated upon the throne, was a massive entity whose form defied description. This was none other than the 7th Floor Lord of Purgatory, the Greed Demon King, Mammon.
His true form was far more oppressive than his Phantom. Countless arms extended from a torso composed of jewels and Gold, each hand clutching different treasures or agonizing souls.
"A fragile Alchemy Creation..." Mammon’s molten Gold-like eyes brimmed with undisguised greedy desire. "...And you dare step into my palace with this meager ’net worth’?
"That fool Sargeras has truly thrown away whatever dignity a Lord of Purgatory possesses."
The surrounding High-tier Demons let out ear-piercing sneers, inching closer step by step.
Faced with a scene terrifying enough to shatter the courage of any powerhouse, Allen’s only reaction was to raise his hand and adjust the spotless collar of the suit worn by his Alchemy Puppet.
His movements were elegant and composed, as if he were attending a royal banquet rather than standing in a demon’s lair.
"Grand Duke Mammon." Allen spoke, his voice projecting through the Alchemy Puppet’s amplification Rune. It was clear, steady, and devoid of any emotional fluctuation. "I was under the impression that we were having a business meeting. Your employees don’t seem to understand the principles of hospitality."
Mammon’s laughter came to an abrupt halt. The High-tier Demons around him also froze. They had never seen such an "arrogant" prey.
Mammon’s massive frame leaned slightly forward. The mockery in his golden eyes slowly faded, replaced by a trace of prudence.
"Something is wrong with this Wizard," Mammon thought. "His soul fluctuation is pitifully weak, but this puppet’s posture, this bone-deep calmness—it’s absolutely not something a weakling could fake. Either he’s an idiot, or... he has trump cards I can’t even begin to imagine."
As the embodiment of greed, Mammon was inherently sensitive to risks.
"A business meeting?" Mammon’s voice deepened. "Very well. Sargeras said you have an order in the ’tens of millions’ on hand. Let’s hear it."
"Before discussing the order, I need to confirm a few things." Allen completely ignored the surrounding demons radiating killing intent and spoke at his own pace. "As a major potential investor preparing for a long-term partnership, I have the right to conduct an on-site inspection of my partner’s supply chain stability.
"Otherwise, how can I be sure that you have the appetite to swallow my order?"
Allen had turned the tables on his host, and his words completely baffled Mammon.
An investor? An inspection? What on earth was this nonsense? A lamb wandering into a slaughterhouse was actually telling the butcher that it wanted to inspect the facility’s environment and the sharpness of the knives?
"Wizard, are you mistaken about your current situation?" A dangerous edge crept into Mammon’s voice.
"No, I am well aware," Allen said, raising his head. The deep blue electronic eyes stared straight at Mammon. "You are also well aware of the value of those ’pure souls.’ You should be even more aware of what it would mean for you if this business were snagged by your mortal enemies, like Asmodeus or Beelzebub."
"You..." Mammon choked on his words.
He had to admit that this Wizard had hit a sore spot.
To a Demon Lord, those pure, flawless souls were a strategic resource far more enticing than any Divine Artifact! If another Lord beat him to it, he would undoubtedly be left in the dust!
"Show me your ’factory’," Allen concluded. "Let me evaluate your ’production capacity.’ Then, we can negotiate the price."
Mammon’s massive golden eyes flickered erratically as greed and vigilance warred furiously within his mind. Ultimately, his ravenous thirst for tens of millions of souls overpowered everything else.
"...Fine!" Mammon squeezed the word through gritted teeth. "I want to see exactly what kind of trick you’re playing!"
He roared at the surrounding demons. Although the High-tier Demons were unwilling, they reluctantly retreated into the shadows.
Mammon stared intently at Allen for a long moment before finally letting out a cold snort. His colossal frame rose from the throne, and the palace doors blasted open with a deafening crash.
"Follow me, arrogant mortal. I will show you just how laughable your pitiful worldview is in the face of Purgatory."
Allen followed behind Mammon and walked out of the Demon Palace. What met his eyes was a dark red firmament. The earth was cracked, and magma flowed sluggishly through the fissures.
Mammon raised a giant hand and pointed toward the endless rolling black mountain range in the distance.
"That is the Despair Mountain Range. A full three thousand kilometers of Demon Iron Ore. The stuff you Wizards treat like precious treasure is nothing more than stepping stones here."
"Over there." Mammon pointed to a canyon on the other side, where a viscous silver-red liquid flowed. "The Blood Mercury River. It spans half of the 7th Floor. More than enough to drown an entire continent."
Mammon continued to show off his wealth. There were sprawling tracts of Glowing Stone Veins and mountains of Purgatory Sulfur. Near a volcanic crater, Allen even spotted transparent crystals coexisting right at the magma’s edge.
Time Erosion Crystals—top-tier materials for crafting time-related Alchemy Tools. Every time they appeared in the Wizarding World, they would spark bloody conflicts.
Allen remained completely impassive on the surface, but internally, his mind was calculating at lightning speed.
"Have you seen enough?" Seeing Allen’s silence, Mammon assumed he was awestruck; a hint of smugness bled into his tone. "Now, do you still doubt my supply capabilities?"
"Your resource reserves are passable," Allen assessed. "But what about your extraction efficiency?"
Mammon burst into laughter that shook the heavens and earth. He pointed to the vast blood-colored plains directly beneath the Demon Palace.
"In Purgatory, power is efficiency!"
On the plains, hundreds of thousands of demons were engaged in a frenzied slaughter.
Low-tier Timid Demons were being torn to shreds. Frenzied Demons devoured the flesh and blood of their own kind, their bodies visibly ballooning in size. Severed limbs littered the ground, and black blood pooled into rivers.
"Do you see? This is the Law of Purgatory.
"Endless carnage, endless devouring. The strongest survive to become my Military Governors. They then drive the weak trash to mine the ores. That fool Sargeras ignored the native treasures of Purgatory simply because he was too obsessed with finding amusement in other Planes."
Allen stood at the edge of the cliff, peering down at the meat grinder of a battlefield below. He watched the demons rolling in the mud and tearing at each other’s throats, silently grading Mammon’s management skills with a flat zero.
Sitting on top-tier cosmic resources, yet relying on the most primitive law of the jungle to consume them. No assembly lines, no standardization, no capacity planning.
This was a monumental crime against resources!
"A very primitive filtration mechanism," Allen said, turning back to face Mammon. "Pardon my bluntness, but this kind of inefficient internal friction cannot possibly support the long-term delivery of an order in the tens of millions."
Mammon’s laughter abruptly ceased. The atmosphere instantly plummeted to a freezing point.
Mammon’s massive Phantom lunged forward, a dangerous, impatient red gleam leaking from his molten Gold-like eyes. The violent wave of sulfur almost threatened to melt Allen’s Alchemy Shell.
"Wizard, I have played enough of your business games." Mammon’s voice turned hoarse and tyrannical. Countless arms thrashed in the air, sealing off all of Allen’s escape routes.
"Now, state your trade." Mammon split open his gaping maw, revealing rows of jagged fangs. "Or else... I will chew up this delicate little toy of yours, right along with your soul!"
