Chapter 629: Chapter 627: Murder (Part 2)
At the same time, Su Qing finally remembered why Wu Qiao Ping looked so familiar. Wu Qiao Ping lived in the same residential compound, but Su Qing had only seen her a handful of times, so she’d only had a vague sense of recognition.
’Heh,’ Su Qing sneered to herself. ’So that’s how it is.’
But Su Qing truly didn’t care about Wu Qiao Ping’s reasons for targeting her. She was preoccupied with figuring out how to expose Wu Qiao Ping’s crimes to the world.
If she hadn’t known about such a wicked deed, she could have let it be. But now that she knew, she couldn’t pretend otherwise. Besides, what happened to Wu Qiao Ping’s sister reminded her of her own mother. Although the causes and circumstances were different, the core of it was the same: a case of a fake daughter harming the real one. The only difference was that Wu Qiao Ping’s sister had been unlucky enough to be murdered by Wu Qiao Ping.
"I wasn’t wrong, was I?" Seeing Wu Qiao Ping’s deathly pale face, the leader of the men let out a cold chuckle. He sized her up with a disdainful look. "I don’t consider myself a good person, but I never expected a girl who looks as gentle and weak as you to be so vicious. Your own sister... you just pushed her off a cliff without a second thought. The fact that you’re here, free as a bird, tells me you did a good job covering your tracks back then. You have companions, right? Go on, call for them. I’d love to see what they think of you once they find out what you did."
Wu Qiao Ping clenched her jaw, staring resentfully at the three men. She asked in a low voice, "What do you want? I don’t know you, and I haven’t done anything to you."
"We don’t know each other, that’s true." The leader nodded. "But what a coincidence, bumping into you right here in these mountains. Come on. Come with us. I know a good place for you."
The leader placed great importance on brotherly loyalty and especially despised people like Wu Qiao Ping who would murder their own flesh and blood. Besides, while he and his two brothers did all sorts of things, they never took a life.
He had seen Wu Qiao Ping commit her crime back then, but he’d been busy and hadn’t paid it much mind. But now that he’d run into her by chance, he had no intention of letting her go. And as it happened, the woman was quite attractive. Selling her off to some village deep in the mountains would not only earn them a good sum of money but could also be considered a meritorious deed, in a way.
Upon hearing this, Wu Qiao Ping’s legs went weak. Though she’d never encountered people like this before, she had heard stories about human traffickers. If they took her away, here in the depths of these old mountain forests, what future would she have left? She wanted to be a doctor. She was supposed to have a bright future.
But she didn’t dare to shout, much less cry for help. She was terrified these men would actually expose the fact that she had murdered Wu Qiaoyun. If that happened, forget her job—even her adoptive parents wouldn’t spare her. She would certainly be handed over to the police, and maybe even...
A violent shudder ran through Wu Qiao Ping at the thought of such a fate.
In a flash, an idea struck her. She quickly said, "Don’t take me! I have two companions who are gorgeous. I can help you get them instead. Just let me go. I swear, those two girls are much prettier than I am, really."
"Tsk, tsk. You really are vicious," the leader said, narrowing his eyes as he looked Wu Qiao Ping up and down. "Selling out your own companions just like that."
Wu Qiao Ping was past the point of caring about anything else. She said in a rush, "It’s true! Believe me! As long as you let me go, I’ll do anything you ask."
"How many people are in your group? How many men, and how many women? What are you all doing in the mountains?" the leader asked. He was a cautious man. He didn’t know anything about Wu Qiao Ping’s group, and while he was no saint, he didn’t want to stir up unnecessary trouble. He needed to find out why they were here and whether they were people he could afford to mess with. The last thing he wanted was to pick a fight with a tough crowd and get himself into a mess.
"There are ten of us. Including me, that’s four girls and six guys," Wu Qiao Ping said without hesitation. "We came into the mountains with two teachers to gather herbs. One of them is the director of Beijing First Hospital."
"Ten people..." the second brother grunted. "There are only three of us. Your group is no joke. And the director of Beijing Hospital is with you? What, are you trying to get us killed?"
The leader and the third brother also shot Wu Qiao Ping a dangerous glare. The director of Beijing First Hospital... they knew that was someone they couldn’t afford to cross. Even deep in the mountains, it was a risk they didn’t dare take. If they provoked the authorities into a full-blown manhunt, their lives would be over. They’d have to spend the rest of their days on the run.
The third brother snorted. "Enough talk. Just come with us. You have a choice: either you come with us, or my big brother tells your friends what you did all those years ago."
"No, don’t!" Wu Qiao Ping, terrified of being dragged away, was desperate to prove her worth. She said quickly, "I can be your inside person! I know some formulas that can put people into a deep sleep. Then you can just take the other girls. My two teachers won’t see your faces, and they won’t know who did it. I won’t say a word about you. How about it?"
Listening to Wu Qiao Ping, Su Qing slowly rubbed her fingers together. ’God, I really want to punch someone!’
Wu Qiao Ping’s words sent the three men into contemplation. The third brother whispered to their leader, "Boss, I think this could work. As long as we don’t touch the men and don’t show our faces, we should be fine. If the director from Beijing Hospital is unharmed, the investigation probably won’t be too intense."
Then he added in a hushed tone, "And if we take all the girls, no one will ever know it was us."
The leader considered this, then nodded, deciding the plan was feasible. He looked at Wu Qiao Ping. "Are you sure you can really help us?"
"Yes, I am," Wu Qiao Ping nodded quickly. "I’m very experienced with preparing herbal remedies."
"Hmph. Fine," the leader said with a seemingly satisfied smile, then shot a look at his second brother.
The second brother understood the signal. Before Wu Qiao Ping could react, he snatched the bag from her back. "What are you doing?!" she cried out in alarm.
"Don’t worry. If we’re going to be partners, we ought to know who you are, right?" The leader took the bag and rummaged through it. Sure enough, tucked inside a notebook, he found an ID card with Wu Qiao Ping’s name, age, and workplace on it.
Seeing they had found her ID card, Wu Qiao Ping stared at the three men in terror. She knew she had no other choice now. She had to help them. If she didn’t... they knew her past crime, and now they knew her name and her workplace. Ruining her would be all too easy.
