Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 373 - 383: Gratitude

Chapter 373: Chapter 383: Gratitude

At least in this moment, she felt her occasional acts of compassion weren’t a mistake.

After all, she had just saved these people. It would be a real shame if they were to die by her hand immediately after.

But now, it seemed that wouldn’t be necessary.

She chuckled softly, her laughter filled with delight.

Andrew Shaw, who was at her side, also let out a huge sigh of relief.

’Thank goodness. These people aren’t so heartless that they’d turn on us right after we saved them.’

’I knew it,’ he thought. ’Even in the apocalypse, when people can be so treacherous and fickle, there are still kind and grateful souls out there.’

And he wasn’t just relieved for their own sakes; he was relieved for these people, too.

’If they hadn’t been thinking straight and had actually attacked us, you can just imagine what their fate would have been.’

What these people did now had essentially saved their own lives, though they didn’t realize it.

"I’ve received your thanks. You can all get up now," Stella Sterling told them.

But she didn’t approach them, instead watching from a distance.

’No matter what, it’s never wrong to be on guard, even if they don’t seem malicious right now.’

Stella Sterling felt it was necessary to maintain a safe distance. It was better for her, and for them.

Andrew Shaw glanced at her but didn’t say anything.

The people in the distance did as she said and stood up, but even then, they bowed again in Stella Sterling’s direction to express their gratitude.

They had been oppressed and humiliated by that gang for so long that their lives could only be described as a living hell.

Their dignity and their very lives had been trampled underfoot by those beasts.

And they weren’t the only ones; countless others had died at the hands of those beasts.

They loathed those beasts to the bone.

But they were utterly helpless.

They couldn’t fight the gang. They stood no chance before, let alone after they were captured.

All they could do was let those people oppress and humiliate them, living on in numbness and despair.

Until today, they had no idea how much longer they would have to endure such a life, with no glimmer of hope in sight.

They never knew if death would come for them before the next dawn. Even if they survived from one day to the next, they had no idea what fresh torments awaited them.

Only in death could they find an end to such agony.

But who could face death so calmly?

Besides, someone had tried to escape the humiliation by committing suicide before.

But that gang hadn’t even spared the dead.

Remembering the things they had witnessed...

The memory made them too afraid even to die, forcing them to live on in humiliation and despair.

They had long since abandoned all hope.

But they never expected such a turn of events. Someone had truly appeared, like a Heavenly Immortal descending from the heavens.

Just two people had killed over a hundred of those beasts, avenging them and rescuing them from that sunless dungeon.

They had set them free, giving them a chance to start anew.

So, in their hearts, they knew. These two weren’t just their saviors; they were their avengers.

They had exacted a revenge the survivors had never dreamed possible.

It was as if they had given them a second chance at life.

Furthermore, they knew full well that while there were two of them, the adult woman must have been the one who did everything. She was the one who saved them. Otherwise, what could a five-year-old boy possibly do?

So they were well aware that the one they were truly grateful to was the beautiful, Heavenly Immortal-like woman. The child was just... with her.

"A thousand words couldn’t express our gratitude. We can only wish you, Ma’am, a safe and smooth journey ahead. We have no way to repay you and can only offer these humble words of thanks."

"Goodbye!"

After saying this, the group turned to leave.

They knew that having such a large group of them waiting around could easily be misunderstood, so they wanted to leave as quickly as possible.

They needed to let their two saviors continue scavenging. They had emerged empty-handed, which likely meant it wasn’t convenient for them to bring out the supplies they had already collected.

So, they should be considerate and leave promptly to avoid any misunderstanding.

As for the gang’s supplies, it wasn’t that they didn’t want them.

Rather, they felt they had no right to even think about them.

Otherwise, they would be no better than animals themselves.

The two of them had dealt with those beasts, so the spoils of victory belonged to them. It had nothing to do with anyone else.

Besides, the pair had avenged them and saved their lives.

For those two reasons alone, they couldn’t touch any of the supplies.

And so, without a moment’s hesitation, the dozens of people turned to leave.

Seeing this, both Andrew Shaw and Stella Sterling understood what was going through their minds.

They both breathed an inward sigh of relief. This was the best possible outcome.

At least it prevented another confrontation.

After all, their initial goal had been to rescue these people. If it had all ended in a conflict over material gain, it would have been truly tragic.

"I’m in a pretty good mood now," Andy said with a grin.

Stella Sterling chuckled. "As it happens, I’m in a pretty good mood myself."

After saying this, Stella Sterling led Andrew Shaw back to the gang’s base.

A short while later, they emerged again. Andrew Shaw looked at Stella Sterling with a complicated expression, his eyes showing that he was deeply moved.

The group hadn’t gotten far, and Stella Sterling’s voice carried over to them.

"There are still some supplies inside that we didn’t get to. The two of us can’t take so much, so you can all divide the rest among yourselves."

After saying this, without waiting to see if they’d heard, Stella Sterling led Andrew Shaw away, and they quickly disappeared into the night.

The departing group stopped in their tracks.

They turned, wanting to tell Stella Sterling to take everything and that they didn’t need it.

But by the time they turned around, the figures of the woman and the boy were gone, having long since vanished from sight.

Everyone fell silent for a moment. Realizing what the two had decided, they were all deeply moved.

Someone even said, "Could it be that the heavens saw our suffering and sent two people to save us?"

It was a sentiment shared by all. Everyone was filled with immense gratitude toward Stella Sterling and the boy.

Regardless, they were overjoyed to know that there were supplies left for them. Those supplies were their hope for survival.
