Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 400 - 410: Pitiable and Lucky

Chapter 400: Chapter 410: Pitiable and Lucky

If I hadn’t seen his true face last night, hadn’t witnessed his ferocity, I’d probably be completely fooled by this act.

I might have even felt a moment of pity, acted impulsively, and taken him under my wing to give him a chance to survive.

Felix Lawrence glared at him. "Hey, kid. We’re past the point of introductions. Can you stop making that face at me?"

If he hadn’t witnessed the boy’s ferocious side, Felix Lawrence wouldn’t have found this behavior strange.

But having seen that other, utterly unchildlike side, watching him now put on this innocent, harmless smile was just bizarre.

’Does he really need to keep this up? It’s not like I don’t know his true nature.’

And we’re all familiar with each other now, yet he’s still putting on this act. It made him wonder if the boy was plotting something.

Felix Lawrence was a large man, and his expression was stern when he wasn’t smiling. Combined with his harsh tone, he looked quite imposing.

Andrew Shaw rolled his eyes, a disdainful smile spreading across his face. "You big bald-head. How can you say such cold, heartless things to an adorable kid like me? You’re really tough, aren’t you?"

"Adorable? I don’t find it adorable at all. In fact, the way you’re looking at me is just plain creepy."

Felix Lawrence retorted bluntly. But after he spoke, he remembered that this little guy was one of Miss Sterling’s people.

’After all, you have to consider the master before you strike the dog. Would Miss Sterling be angry that I spoke to the kid like that?’

He stole a glance at Stella Sterling and saw her quietly walking beside him, head down, fiddling with her fingers. She was paying no attention to the two of them.

And with that, he relaxed!

"AAAH, what are you talking about?! I’m so adorable, how could I possibly be scary?! What’s wrong with your eyes!!!"

Andrew Shaw shouted indignantly. ’This big bald-head is so annoying! What kind of nonsense is he spouting?!’

’Stella Sterling, oh Stella Sterling, your subordinate is being bullied right in front of you! Aren’t you going to react at all?’

Meeting Andrew Shaw’s somewhat reproachful gaze, Stella Sterling looked over at him!

Seeing his expression, she was momentarily stunned!

Then she saw Andrew Shaw looking at her expectantly, as if waiting for her to say something.

Stella Sterling thought for a moment, then said seriously, "It is a little creepy. You should probably stop smiling like that."

In truth, Andrew Shaw’s appearance was quite cute. Especially after a month with Stella Sterling, eating and drinking well, he was living a pretty good life.

He had put some weight back on, and since he spent most of his time in the air-conditioned car, his skin had become much fairer.

Based on looks alone, Andrew Shaw was indeed very cute. And whenever he intentionally played the part, his eyes, movements, and expressions were quite similar to those of a five-year-old.

Of course, that was only if you didn’t know the truth about him.

But Stella Sterling knew perfectly well that behind this cute facade was the soul of a grown man.

’Just imagine, a grown man in his twenties acting like a child in front of you.’ Just the thought of it gave Stella Sterling the creeps.

Andrew Shaw had been hoping Stella Sterling would speak up for him, but he never expected that when she did open her mouth, it would be to shoot him down.

He instantly deflated like a punctured ball, his whole body slumping.

Felix Lawrence watched from the side, suppressing the smile that tugged at his lips.

’It seems only Miss Sterling can keep this creepy little guy in check.’

Looking at his dejected state, Stella Sterling thought for another moment and added, "Of course, just don’t smile like that in front of me. Otherwise, do as you please."

After all, he was in the body of a child. If he acted too un-childlike, people would eventually become suspicious.

Even if Felix Lawrence wasn’t thinking along those lines right now, if Andrew Shaw kept showing more and more suspicious traits, it would be easy for some problems to be exposed.

So sometimes, he still needed to keep up the disguise. ’I’ll just make a point not to watch,’ she decided.

Hearing this, Andrew Shaw immediately perked up, his eyes brightening.

Felix Lawrence shook his head. ’That kid is a sharp one.’

But as he thought more, a trace of sorrow appeared in his eyes. ’Before the apocalypse, a kid his age would still be in kindergarten.’

’A kindergartener, under normal circumstances, wouldn’t have so many schemes in his head. He wouldn’t show such a ferocious side, much less try to ambush someone with a knife.’

’It’s all the apocalypse’s fault. In this new world, even children have to be ruthless, forced to grow up. Otherwise, they’re just lambs to the slaughter.’

Thinking about how the boy must have gone through so much to become like this, he felt a pang of pity.

’In this apocalypse, there are probably many more children just like him.’

’All the children who are still alive must have become as shrewd as this one. The ones who weren’t shrewd, who weren’t ruthless... they would have died years ago. They wouldn’t have survived until now.’

’And my own child... only a little over ten years old. Without my protection, who knows how hard their life in this apocalypse would be.’

’When you get down to it, the kid might seem creepy, but he’s really just a pitiful soul.’

At this thought, Felix Lawrence’s gaze toward Andrew Shaw softened with a hint of sympathy.

Andrew Shaw felt baffled as the man’s gaze toward him suddenly changed.

Being stared at like that by the big, bald man gave him the creeps. He shook his head. "What are you staring at me for, bald-head?"

Felix Lawrence stared at him for several seconds, then smiled softly. "It’s nothing. I just think you’re both pitiful and lucky."

Pitiful, because he was just a child of a few years old when the apocalypse began. At an age when he understood nothing, he had to face this cruel world, forced to grow up and become strong.

But he was also lucky—luckier than most, at least.

Not only had he survived until now, but he was also able to follow Miss Sterling.

Miss Sterling’s power was not to be underestimated. By sticking with her, his safety was largely guaranteed.

And how could that not be considered a form of luck!
