Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 403 - 413: Scared Someone

Chapter 403: Chapter 413: Scared Someone

Derek Walsh’s body pitched forward, landing on his pile of "treasures" as fresh blood stained the ground.

One of his hands landed right on his large knife, and his eyes were wide open, filled with disbelief.

Just before he died, he had heard the words spoken by the woman behind him.

He had been desperate to speak, to buy himself time to live, but he never imagined this woman would be so ruthless. She didn’t even give him a single second, ending his life in an instant.

He hadn’t even had the chance to beg for mercy before his throat was slit and he lost consciousness.

Several onlookers in the surrounding crowd had witnessed the entire scene.

Some of them let out a scream before quickly quieting down, their gazes fixed on Stella Sterling in terror.

They had seen plenty of death in this apocalypse, so the sight wasn’t particularly shocking. What did surprise them was how ruthless the woman was. She struck without a moment’s hesitation. ’She’s a stone-cold killer!’

Many of them had been envious of Derek Walsh just moments before, wondering why they hadn’t thought of trying to scam the woman themselves. The thought now sent a cold sweat down their backs.

They were now overcome with relief. ’Thank God it was him. Otherwise, we’d be the ones with our throats slit.’

Watching Derek Walsh’s fate unfold, they couldn’t help but sigh. Just a few seconds ago, none of them could have imagined things would turn out like this.

Attorney Walsh had scammed countless people, but they never thought his own con would backfire on him so spectacularly.

Everyone then looked at Stella Sterling with complicated expressions. Some had pitied her earlier, but now they realized she was the truly ruthless one.

She struck without the slightest hesitation.

The problem was, she clearly had the skill to back it up. Several people had been watching the "show" from the side, but none of them had even seen how the woman moved. And just like that, Derek Walsh was dead.

Her speed and reflexes were rare, even in the apocalypse. ’This woman is an expert.’

’But her outfit and build... they seem unfamiliar. I don’t think we’ve ever seen her before.’

’Could she be new to Veridia?’

In an instant, all eyes were on Stella Sterling. Everything had happened too fast for them to process.

Fights were common in this trading post; people often came to blows over a simple disagreement.

But there was usually a process to it. Unless someone had a gun, a death would only occur after a fierce brawl.

A fight ending this quickly was a rare sight indeed.

Stella Sterling’s gaze swept over the crowd. She raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

The moment her eyes met theirs, however, they immediately snapped their heads away, not daring to meet her gaze.

’She’s obviously a killer, and she acts without hesitation. Who knows if she’s trigger-happy? If we stare too long and displease her, she might just kill us. We’d die for nothing!’

Besides, some of them had considered trying to pull a fast one on her themselves, so they felt even more guilty when her gaze fell on them.

So they all started pretending to be busy, fumbling around frantically without really doing anything. By some unspoken agreement, none of them dared to look in Stella Sterling’s direction.

Some, not knowing what else to do, started chatting with the person next to them, though their expressions were all a bit awkward.

Stella Sterling paid them no mind. She looked down and kicked the man’s body lying beside her, shoving it to the side.

The person whose stall was closest to Derek Walsh’s immediately scrambled back several steps and let out a startled cry.

It wasn’t Derek Walsh’s corpse that scared him, but Stella Sterling’s action. ’She kicked the body toward me! Is she going to attack me next?!’

’Or maybe she thinks I was in on it with Derek Walsh! After all, our stalls are so close!’

At this thought, he immediately yelled, "Don’t kill me! Please, don’t kill me!"

His voice was so sharp and piercing that it made Stella Sterling pause.

She glanced over at him.

’How bizarre. When did I ever say I was going to kill him?’

’I’m not some psychotic murderer. He hasn’t done anything to me, so why would I kill him?’

A flicker of annoyance crossed Stella Sterling’s eyes. ’Do I really look that terrifying?’

But when the man saw Stella Sterling look his way, he was convinced his fears were true—she was really going to kill him. A flash of terror appeared in his eyes.

He hurriedly begged for mercy, "Miss, Miss, this has nothing to do with me! I don’t know this Derek Walsh at all, and we’re definitely not working together! In fact, I find his behavior despicable! But there was nothing I could do. He has powerful backing, so I didn’t dare to cross him."

"But I’ve never been involved in his schemes, and I’ve never done anything like that! You can’t kill me! I’m innocent!"

His voice was mournful and trembling.

It wasn’t easy to survive in the apocalypse, and he didn’t want to die for nothing. He knew it was shameful for a grown man to be shouting like this.

But he didn’t care. As long as he could live, a little shame was nothing. All he wanted was for her to spare him.

More than the shame, he was terrified that she wouldn’t believe his explanation and would still attack him.

Hearing his words, Stella Sterling realized he had misunderstood. ’And things are a little different than I thought!’

The coldness in her eyes faded. Looking at the man’s pathetic state, her expression became complicated.

She spoke up. "Relax. I’m not going to kill you."

She didn’t really need to explain herself to him, but after a moment’s thought, she said it anyway.

Seeing his groveling appearance, Stella Sterling felt an inexplicable pang in her heart. It reminded her of some of her own experiences in her past life.

Hearing Stella Sterling’s words was like listening to the most beautiful music. The man let out a huge sigh of relief and slumped to the ground.

He no longer cared what kind of looks the people around him were giving.

Whether they were mocking or scornful, it didn’t matter. Surviving was the greatest fortune he could ask for right now.

Compared to life, nothing else was important.
