Chapter 428: Chapter 438: Her Purpose
"Calm down, calm down. Don’t be so angry. You can only accomplish things with a level head. Acting like this just won’t work."
Stella Sterling’s voice rang out, laced with amusement. "Besides," she said with feigned helplessness, "if you die from anger right now, how will you ever avenge your little brother?"
It was as if she wasn’t the least bit afraid of angering the couple to death. In stark contrast to them, their chests heaving with fury, she looked completely at ease.
They both glared at her, their expressions grim. If they hadn’t witnessed her extraordinary power, they would have charged forward to fight her to the death long ago.
She was still provoking them, deliberately enraging them. Every word was another twist of the knife.
’This is infuriating! Absolutely infuriating!’
Since joining Sanctyr Base and becoming part of its upper management, when had they ever been subjected to such humiliation?
This woman had been captured by their people today. This was supposed to be their moment for revenge, a time to vent their frustrations. They never could have imagined things would turn out this way!
They had captured her, yes, but she hadn’t suffered an ounce of torture. Instead, she was the one tormenting them, driving them half-mad with rage.
Seeing them seething like that, yet doing nothing more than pointing fingers at her without making a single move...
A flicker of disappointment crossed Stella Sterling’s eyes. "I’ve provoked you this much, and still no reaction? You really are spineless. What a bunch of cowards!"
More infuriating words continued to spill from Stella Sterling’s lips.
Now even Mr. Jennings was furious. Both he and his wife were trembling, momentarily too choked with rage to speak.
Seeing them like this, Stella Sterling was thoroughly disappointed. She then turned her gaze to Selene Larkin, who was standing off to the side.
When Selene Larkin saw Stella looking her way, a sense of foreboding flickered in her eyes.
Stella Sterling’s tone held a hint of feigned resignation. "And you? Is this the best you can do? You said you were giving me two choices, didn’t you? I’ve picked neither. So, what are you going to do now?"
"Why don’t you charge at me again? We can have another round. To be honest, your skills aren’t half bad."
"But you’re not all that impressive, are you? From the very start, all you’ve done is talk tough, but your actions don’t back it up. I have to say, it’s a bit disappointing."
Selene Larkin’s face turned livid. She finally understood why Mr. and Mrs. Jennings were trembling with rage.
’I feel pretty much the same way right now.’
’This woman is too arrogant. She’s genuinely not afraid of provoking us.’
And despite her arrogance, there was nothing they could do to her at the moment. ’I just fought her myself,’ she thought. ’The woman’s power is immense, and her strikes seem incredibly forceful.’
’Every blow that landed on my body placed an enormous strain on me.’
’Even if I charged in again, I wouldn’t be her match. I’d only end up getting hurt.’
’And the men I called in... they had her surrounded at gunpoint, yet she still managed to snatch their weapons.’
’Getting more reinforcements would take time. If we sent men to fight her bare-handed, our sheer numbers should be enough to overwhelm her. After all, two fists are no match for four hands.’
’But our losses would be significant if we did that.’
’And if we were to use other weapons... it would cause significant trouble and damage to the base.’
’She might not be able to escape Sanctyr Base, but capturing her quickly is proving to be quite difficult.’
So, in the face of such blatant provocation, Selene Larkin was furious but felt completely powerless.
Seeing her remain motionless, Stella Sterling let out a brazen laugh. "So this is the so-called Sanctyr Foundation? Just a bunch of trash who can only talk tough but have no real skill. How ridiculous."
To the ears of the people from Sanctyr Base, her laughter was incredibly grating.
Unable to bear the humiliation, a few of them charged directly at Stella Sterling.
They were defeated in less than two seconds. It was a miserable loss; they didn’t even manage to touch the hem of her clothes before they were rendered combat-ineffective.
One, in an even worse state, was pinned under her foot, his face a mask of humiliation.
She met their furious glares with a joyous laugh.
’I came here specifically to cause trouble for Sanctyr Base,’ she thought. ’While I don’t intend to start an all-out war, I’m definitely here to stir the pot and make a mess.’
That being the case, Stella wasn’t afraid to escalate things. She had no fear of offending these people, so she said whatever she knew would make them angriest.
The angrier they became, the more delighted she felt.
’Playing the good guy for so long has gotten a bit boring lately,’ she mused. ’Life’s been lacking excitement.’
’And wouldn’t you know it, the people from Sanctyr Base came looking for me. I have no intention of letting this free entertainment go to waste.’
Looking at their livid faces, she laughed with unbridled glee.
’Worst case, if things get out of hand, I’ll just leave. They can’t do a thing to stop me anyway.’
’This is the benefit of being powerful—it lets you be fearless.’
She wasn’t afraid in the past, either, but she still acted with some scruples, some restraint.
But now...
The people of the base watched the masked woman’s wild laughter, a knot of frustration tightening in their chests.
But there was nothing they could do. It wasn’t that they were patient; it was that the ones who had acted impulsively just now had already paid the price. Seeing their comrades lying unconscious and battered on the ground, no one else dared to make a rash move.
None of them were likely her match in a one-on-one fight. To go up now would be to offer themselves up for humiliation.
After some time, Selene Larkin managed to calm down. She took a few deep breaths before looking at Stella Sterling again. "Why are you doing this? There’s nothing in it for you."
She could see it now. This woman wasn’t afraid of them in the slightest. In fact, every word she spoke was a deliberate attempt to enrage them.
She was trying to make them lose control and attack her, to force them to commit more resources to taking her down.
’Why is she doing this?’ Selene wondered. ’There must be a motive!’
’For someone to be this arrogant, they’re either a fool, or they have a trump card that guarantees their safety.’
’She isn’t afraid of us. That’s why she can be so brazen.’
But they’d never met this person before. She couldn’t understand why she was doing all this.
Earlier, she had assumed the woman had been captured by Mr. and Mrs. Jennings’s men, but now she realized that was impossible.
’With her abilities, there’s no way Mr. Jennings’s men could have captured her out there!’
’So why was she brought to Sanctyr Base?’
A thought flashed through her mind: ’She did it on purpose. She deliberately let the base’s people capture her!’
’So what’s her goal? Is it really just to provoke us?’
