Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 443 - 453: How Interesting

Chapter 443: Chapter 453: How Interesting

Selene Larkin’s face fell. She never imagined Boss Saint would show up right now.

’I thought he wasn’t at the base. I remember Boss Saint had gone out on business, hadn’t he? How could he be back now!’

It was precisely because he wasn’t at the base that she had taken matters into her own hands, using artillery on the masked woman without seeking Boss Saint’s approval.

’By the time Boss Saint returned, everything would have settled down. I could just apologize to him then.’

’Given her relationship with the Boss, the worst she’d get was some minor punishment. It wouldn’t be a huge deal.’

But she never expected that Boss Saint would actually be at the base.

Worse still, she hadn’t expected him to come here, and she had just screamed at him.

Selene Larkin knew her sworn brother well enough.

On a normal day, this big brother of hers treated her well, but he never tolerated any challenge to his authority.

’I just screamed at the Boss in front of all these people. He’s definitely going to hold it against me.’

’I haven’t even dealt with this mess, and now I’ve made another mistake.’

A flicker of panic crossed her eyes at the thought.

Normally, she would have never acted this way. No matter what happened, she was always able to handle things calmly, unlike the mess she was in today.

But the masked woman had pushed her too far today.

Her pride had been wounded time and again, and to top it all off, her own base members had been turned against her by this woman. She couldn’t take it anymore. She had been bottling up her emotions, and they had finally exploded—unfortunately, right at Boss Saint.

Selene Larkin trembled and said hurriedly, "Big Brother, I’m sorry. I didn’t know it was you. Everything has gotten out of hand, and it’s all my fault. I’ll accept my punishment for this afterward."

She didn’t beg for mercy or make excuses. Things had already gone this far; saying anything else would be pointless.

The best course of action was to admit her mistake quickly and try to make amends.

Miles Sanctus was indeed angry, but Selene Larkin was his most capable subordinate, after all. He didn’t reprimand her in front of so many people, instead just giving her a look that said, ’You handle it.’

Selene Larkin let out a sigh of relief. ’At least the Boss didn’t punish me on the spot. He’s letting me save face. I’ll atone for it later.’

At this thought, she stole a glance in Stella Sterling’s direction.

She’d already been humiliated by that woman enough for one day; she didn’t want to be lectured by the Boss in front of her.

’Otherwise, I’d have no dignity left in front of her at all!’

She stood up straight and said to Miles Sanctus, "Big Brother, an arrogant woman has come to our base, challenging our authority!"

"This person is unbelievably arrogant and has even turned some of our own members. I have proven useless, unable to subdue her after all this time. Please punish me later, Big Brother, but right now, I’m afraid we must take this woman down."

Selene Larkin breathed a sigh of relief.

’There’s no escaping my punishment today,’ she thought. ’And it probably won’t be light.’

’But I’ll accept all of it. As long as they spare my life, I can eventually win back the dignity I’ve lost.’

’But Stella Sterling has to die. Things have gone too far; there’s no room for reconciliation now.’

’If we let her leave, she will become a great enemy to our base in the future.’

’A person with her abilities would absolutely pose a major threat to Sanctyr Base.’

’So, whether for the sake of our base’s reputation or for its future, we have to kill this woman.’

’Before, all that pressure was on me. It was a real headache, and I had no idea how to handle her.’

’But now that Boss Saint is here, I can just hand this whole mess over to him.’

’As the ultimate authority in the base, Boss Saint can make decisions without worrying about all these considerations.’

’This actually makes things simpler!’

Hearing Selene Larkin’s words, Miles Sanctus’s brow furrowed slightly. "Oh? I must say I’m curious. Who would be so bold as to challenge my Sanctyr Base right on its own doorstep?"

He knew Selene Larkin wasn’t a fool and wouldn’t act like this without a reason. Something must have happened.

But even with his suspicions, he couldn’t hide his surprise at her words.

Ever since becoming the leader of Sanctyr Base and leading it to its current standing, he had never imagined a day like this would come.

Someone had dared to challenge Sanctyr Base, and was brazen enough to infiltrate their very ranks to humiliate them.

At this thought, he grew dissatisfied with his base members. ’A bunch of useless mouths to feed.’

’Completely useless when it counts,’ he thought. ’And that includes Selene Larkin.’

At that moment, the base members who hadn’t yet been turned away lit up with excitement upon seeing their boss arrive.

’Our boss is here!’ they thought. ’That woman is finished!’

As for the members who had already been won over by Stella Sterling, they now grew worried.

It was a bone-deep fear of Miles Sanctus.

But their hearts settled as soon as they remembered the power the woman had just displayed.

They had just chosen to follow this woman—who might as well be a deity—right in front of Ms. Larkin.

There was no turning back for them. Even if they tried to profess their loyalty now, Ms. Larkin would never trust them again. In fact, she would undoubtedly punish them later.

So now, they had no choice but to stand firm and follow the mysterious woman.

With this in mind, the dozen or so people exchanged glances. They walked over to Stella Sterling and said in low voices, "We believe in your power. You can definitely get out of this place. We swear to follow you until death. Please, take us with you!"

Stella Sterling smiled at them. She could feel their loyalty and fervent devotion.

The corner of her mouth quirked up. "Don’t worry, you made the right choice."

She hadn’t expected to gain more than a dozen followers with just a few casual words.

Moreover, the extent of their devotion was completely beyond her expectations.

’What a pleasant surprise.’

Not far away, Miles Sanctus frowned at the sight. If he wasn’t mistaken, those people were wearing Sanctyr Base uniforms. And yet, here they were, pledging to follow someone else right in front of him.

’How interesting.’
