Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 587: Their Respective Plans

A smile touched Caleb Xavier’s eyes as he looked at the person before him.

A smile touched Stella Sterling’s eyes as well as she looked back at him.

Only Andrew Shaw, standing to the side, was completely baffled. ‘What is going on?’

‘Didn’t Stella say Caleb Xavier was an old friend? But they obviously don’t recognize each other!’

‘Could it be that they haven’t actually met yet at this point in time?’

‘But that can’t be right. According to the information I’ve received, both of them are reincarnators.’

‘If they’re both reincarnators, then they should know each other.’

‘Of course, it’s also possible Caleb doesn’t know Stella is a reincarnator. He might think she doesn’t recognize him yet, which would explain why he’s acting this way.’

‘But as for why Stella is also pretending not to know him… that, I really don’t get.’

Caleb Xavier lowered his voice. “Miss, thank you for your help just now. I’ve put together a small team to survive this apocalypse. I was wondering if you have any teammates? If not, you’re welcome to join us. We can all watch each other’s backs!”

Caleb Xavier looked at Stella Sterling, his smile growing even warmer.

‘I’d almost forgotten about this person from over a decade ago. If she hadn’t appeared right in front of me, I might have never remembered she even existed.’

‘I remember she has that little treasure on her.’

‘It’s a shame that even though I managed to plot her death in our past life, I never got my hands on her pocket dimension.’

‘I regretted it for quite a while back then. If I’d known how it would turn out, I wouldn’t have let her die so quickly. Keeping her alive would have been useful, and her pocket dimension would have saved me so much trouble.’

‘But in the end, she died, I didn’t get the dimension, and things got very difficult for me for a while.’

‘Fortunately, I managed to pull through.’

‘This time, after returning, my only goals have been to rapidly build up my strength and secure an escape route, and to wholeheartedly pressure Gordon Ford into finding a way to return to the future.’

‘I completely forgot about her in the process.’

‘Now that I’ve run into her, I can’t possibly let this chance slip by. If I can get my hands on her pocket dimension, it would be a huge advantage for me, whether I return to the future or have to stay here and relive my past life’s journey all over again.’

‘Having that thing is like carrying a mobile armory. I could keep all my supplies on me at all times. I can’t even imagine how much more convenient that would be.’

So in this moment, his mind was racing with calculations as he looked at Stella Sterling, but the smile on his face only grew warmer and more approachable.

Andrew Shaw shivered as he watched from the sidelines.

‘I don’t know why, but I’ve seen Caleb Xavier before and always thought he seemed easy to get along with. Seeing him again now, though, his smile feels… fake.’

He glanced over at Stella Sterling, and a moment later, his lip twitched.

‘Right now, the smile on that woman’s face is even faker than Caleb’s.’

‘Is that person with the pure, innocent, I’m-so-easy-to-trick expression really the same calculating, sinister, and incredibly petty Stella I know?’

‘My eyes must be playing tricks on me. I’m definitely seeing things.’

Andrew Shaw stood to the side, rubbing his eyes.

Stella Sterling shot him a stealthy glare, a dangerous warning flashing in her eyes for just a second.

A jolt went through Andrew Shaw. He immediately straightened up and stood quietly to the side without saying a word.

To any outsider, he was just a child, so no one paid him any attention.

Stella Sterling turned back to Caleb Xavier, her smile warm and open. “Of course! My previous teammates were all killed. Right now, I’m just trying to make my way through this apocalypse alone with my child. It would be wonderful to join you!”

‘In my past life, I also saved Caleb Xavier, and we ended up traveling together after that.’

‘This life is starting out pretty much the same as the last one, except this time, we’re both hiding our true intentions.’

“Haha, I saw you in action just now. Your skills are impressive. There aren’t many people in this apocalypse who can fight like that. Having a teammate like you would be an honor for me!”

Caleb Xavier let out a hearty laugh, then glanced again at Andrew Shaw, who stood silently to the side.

‘Am I misremembering? I’m sure she didn’t have a child with her in our past life!’

‘But then again, since I was reborn into this year, a lot of things have already deviated from the timeline of my past life.’

‘For example, the insect plague wasn’t supposed to happen yet, but it’s already here.’

‘So, it’s perfectly normal that some things about Stella Sterling are different from the last life, too.’

He smiled. “My comrades are just up ahead. Let me take you to meet them!”

“Okay!” Stella Sterling nodded.

Just then, the group of Human Body Warriors who had been covering their rear returned.

Their clothes were in tatters, but they seemed completely oblivious to their condition, numbly following behind Zane Xavier.

She sized up the Human Body Warriors. Just as Black Swan had said, this group was completely different from the ones she had seen at Sanctyr Base.

Moreover, while they were clearing out the swarm of insectoid birds earlier, she had noticed these Human Body Warriors could release elemental energies like fire and water—they were on a completely different level from the ones at Sanctyr Base.

Meanwhile, Andrew Shaw was also staring at the Human Body Warriors, his heart filled with shock.

‘These are just like the Human Body Warriors I encountered in my past life.’

‘Stella was right. Caleb Xavier really is a reincarnator. He even managed to develop these things ahead of schedule.’

Seeing Stella Sterling’s curious stare, Caleb Xavier offered no explanation. They just moved forward cautiously.

They crossed two streets and arrived at an abandoned building.

They entered through a dilapidated doorway, where someone was already waiting for Caleb Xavier.

Hearing the commotion, Miles Sanctus looked over. “You took so long, I was starting to think you ran into trouble on the way!”

Miles Sanctus’s tone was laced with sarcasm.

Hearing that voice, Stella Sterling’s lips curled into a smirk. ‘So, Miles Sanctus is here too.’

Caleb Xavier laughed. “Is that worry I hear in your voice? Relax. As long as you’re still alive, how could I possibly let myself die?”

Miles Sanctus couldn’t help but shudder at his words, then looked past Caleb at the people with him.

The next moment, his eyes widened. “Stella Sterling, it’s you!”

His tone was full of surprise. He never expected to see Stella Sterling here, and with Caleb Xavier of all people.

‘What’s going on? Why is she with him?’

He instantly grew wary, whipping out a gun and firing.

Stella Sterling dodged with ease, a smile playing on her lips as she looked at him. “You’re not dead yet? What’s the matter, Boss Saint? Not happy to see me? Such a big reaction for a reunion between old friends. Shouldn’t you be a little more welcoming?”

Seeing this, Caleb Xavier frowned. “You two know each other?”
