Wolf-Raised Cub with a Space: Surviving the Disaster Years

Chapter 632: A Mother Descends from the Sky

Chapter 632: Chapter 632: A Mother Descends from the Sky

Shen Ningning said urgently, "Can you answer a few questions for me? Even if I’m going to die, I want to know why!"

Tian Xuezhen stopped and turned to look at her, scoffing. "Fine. I’ll let you die with your answers."

"If you were on that spaceship with my mother, then why can you see the future? It’s like you can always predict my every move. How do you know what I’m going to do? Are you some kind of fortune-teller?"

When Shen Ningning finished, Tian Xuezhen burst into laughter.

His voice was dripping with mockery. "Of course I know. Because I’ve already died at your hands once before!"

Shen Ningning froze.

Then, Tian Xuezhen’s tone grew frenzied and chaotic. But from his ranting, Shen Ningning was able to piece together the whole story, learning for the first time of a reality she had never imagined.

Tian Xuezhen had been reborn. Or rather, it was less a rebirth and more a prophetic dream.

After Shen Siyi’s spaceship encountered a white light during its Moon Landing, fell through a time-space rift, and arrived here, he had fallen into a death-like coma.

During that time, he repeatedly had a dream. The dream was of everything that had happened over the past few years, including the moment he tried to seize the Ming Guangxin, only to be pushed off a cliff to his death by Shen Siyi’s daughter, Shen Ningning.

"I’ve already failed once. How could I possibly fail a second time? Therefore, the Ming Guangxin can only be mine!"

Shen Ningning frowned. "But you want the Ming Guangxin just for a long life?"

As long as the protection system had power, it would provide him with comprehensive physical diagnostics and ensure his health and longevity.

But he was still a mortal man. No matter how long he lived, it would be no more than a century.

Tian Xuezhen sneered. "I’m sixty-five. Even if I only live to be a hundred, that still gives me decades. I’ve laid low and bided my time for so long, dragged to this godforsaken place by Shen Siyi’s spaceship, falling from a High-level Deputy General to... this. It’s all thanks to Shen Siyi! But now, it’s time for my era to begin. I will leave an indelible mark on the pages of history, so that future generations will read my name in their books!"

Shen Ningning was stunned. "You want to be the Emperor..."

Tian Xuezhen narrowed his eyes. "Oh? You’re a clever one."

’So that’s his plan. He’ll sabotage the system, letting the rain disaster engulf the world. Then he’ll take the Ming Guangxin, get rid of me, and reappear as a savior to lead everyone against the disaster.’

’At that point, the people will naturally worship him as a supreme god.’

Tian Xuezhen glanced down and saw a crack appear on the box. It looked like it was about to open.

’He would have the Ming Guangxin soon.’

"I have one last question. Why does it have to be me? If you knew where the Ming Guangxin was and were just waiting for me to arrive, why couldn’t you get it yourself?"

Tian Xuezhen grew impatient. "Blame that mother of yours! She set up a security protocol. Only a blood relative can use their blood to activate the Ming Guangxin’s program. But you’ll never get the chance to use it. If you want to see Shen Siyi, you can go meet her in the afterlife!"

With that, he turned to leave, urging again, "Hei Diao, throw her off Tianshan Mountain now!"

Hei Diao suddenly shot into the air, but unexpectedly, his sharp talons lunged toward Tian Xuezhen.

Tian Xuezhen was knocked to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, Hei Diao snatched the iron box, flew to Shen Ningning with incredible speed, and tossed it to her.

Then, he grabbed Shen Ningning. "Let’s get down the mountain! He’s old, he can’t run very fast."

Shen Ningning clutched the box tightly. But just as Hei Diao flapped his wings to take flight, an explosive BOOM echoed from behind them.

A cannon blast whizzed over Shen Ningning’s head and struck Hei Diao’s right wing directly.

Hei Diao’s agonized screech filled the Top of Tianshan Mountain.

He faltered in the air, swaying twice before tumbling down, scraping a long trail through the white snow.

Despite the excruciating pain, he never let go of Shen Ningning. A moment later, Hei Diao slid to a stop, and Shen Ningning crawled out from under his wing, still clutching the box.

Seeing that Hei Diao’s right wing was almost completely burned away, she frantically packed snow onto the smoldering feathers.

"Hei Diao, Hei Diao!" she cried. Looking up, she saw Tian Xuezhen standing on the slope above, holding the cannon and laughing wildly.

"A mere animal. Did you really think I wouldn’t be prepared? Hmph. Since he’s looking for death too, you can both go to hell together."

Shen Ningning gritted her teeth and spread her arms, shielding Hei Diao with her own body.

The wind and snow howled around them. The young woman’s voice was filled with fury. "You wicked man! He’s a bird! You destroyed his wings, how is he supposed to survive!"

Tian Xuezhen felt no remorse at all.

He held the cannon, aiming it at Shen Ningning. "He’s just an eagle. Without him, I can just raise another. It just takes a little effort, that’s all. When I first got him, I climbed all the way to the top of this very cliff."

"But his mother was too feral. She scratched me several times, so I blasted her to death with a single shot. I brought Hei Diao, still a hatchling, back home to raise. This is part of breaking an eagle: making it form an attachment to the one who feeds it right after it’s born."

"Today, I’m using the same method on him because he dared to help you snatch the box. So in a way, I’m not wronging him! After all, I raised him for so many years. Right, Hei Diao?"

Lying on the ground, on the verge of death, Hei Diao heard how his mother had died. How could he not be consumed by hatred?

At this moment, the ability to understand human speech was a form of cruelty.

Shen Ningning calmed down. Her pale face was dusted with frost, but a chilling smile touched her lips.

"No wonder Mother said you were selfish and arrogant. She told me I had to be careful."

Tian Xuezhen froze. "What did you say?"

’How could Shen Siyi possibly know I’m alive? By all rights, she should think I died with the rest of the crew in that time-space rift!’

"Mother told me that the surviving Tian Xuezhen tampered with the ship’s programming before the Moon Landing. That’s what caused the systems to fail, the entire ship to crash, and all of us to fall into the time-space rift!"

Tian Xuezhen was utterly stunned.

’He had indeed tampered with it. He’d wanted to cause a minor malfunction during the flight. That way, once they reached the Moon, he could file a complaint with the Alliance, have Shen Siyi stripped of her captaincy, and take her place. But he knew far too little about the programming. Shen Siyi’s systems were incredibly complex. He failed in his secret attempt to alter the code and, assuming he hadn’t changed anything, gave up. Little did he know, he had already corrupted the system. That was what led to the innocent deaths of thousands of people aboard the ship. The only reason he and Shen Siyi survived was because of the cockpit’s structural integrity. Master Gu had been in the systems control room at the time, so he also managed to escape death.’ But aside from them, everyone else had perished. Tian Xuezhen’s crime was unforgivable.

"So what if you know? The Ming Guangxin is mine for the taking, and Shen Siyi is never coming back."

"That’s not for certain," Shen Ningning said with conviction. "Mother said that she would personally capture a criminal like you and bring you to justice."

Tian Xuezhen laughed mockingly. But before his laughter could fade, a pillar of blue light suddenly shot down from the sky.

He froze, looking up. His expression slowly shifted from astonishment to terror.

The heavy storm clouds parted, and a sword-shaped vessel slowly descended from the heavens.

Tian Xuezhen had an innate fear of Shen Siyi.

Because the woman was simply too strong.

’She clearly drowned, yet here she is.’

"Who said I was never coming back?" A light, feminine voice drifted from the vessel.

Tian Xuezhen frantically fired the cannon, sending blast after blast at the vessel.

However, the vessel was far too sturdy to be shaken by a mere cannon.

Seeing his attack was useless, Tian Xuezhen dropped the cannon and turned to run.

But a graceful figure swooped down from the pillar of blue light, landing squarely on Tian Xuezhen’s back and driving him to the ground.

A high-heeled white boot then planted itself firmly on his head.

"Tian Xuezhen. It’s been a few years. You look like you have one foot in the grave." The woman’s wavy black hair billowed in the wind, her red lips curling into a smirk.

She had the awe-inspiring presence of a queen taking the stage.
