Chapter 634: Chapter 634: The Dust Settles
Xie Suzhi gazed in that direction and nodded gently.
His gaze was filled with longing, and Mo Lingwei finally understood.
It was no wonder. Only the legendary Shen Siyi, a figure like a Goddess, could burst forth with such a dazzling blue light upon her arrival.
She had even cleaved the rain clouds gathered over Tianshan Mountain in two.
"Prime Minister, your headdress is a little crooked." Mo Lingwei reached out and adjusted it for Xie Suzhi.
For the first time, Xie Suzhi said to him, "Thank you, Crown Prince."
In the past, because of his daughter, Xie Suzhi had always faintly disapproved of their relationship.
But now, judging by his tone, he was much more familiar with Mo Lingwei.
Xie Suzhi eagerly hurried up the slope. There, on the Top of Tianshan Mountain, amidst the wind and snow, he finally saw Shen Siyi’s face clearly.
He knew this was different from the countless dreams he’d had before.
This time, she had really returned.
"Wife!" Xie Suzhi cried out.
Shen Siyi turned to look at him, smiling as she waved. "Husband~ Long time no see."
Xie Suzhi sprinted over. He looked nothing like the usual composed and aloof Prime Minister, but rather like a young boy experiencing love for the very first time.
Just like when they first met.
As he rushed forward, Ningning sensibly stepped aside. Xie Suzhi swept Shen Siyi into his arms.
Xie Suzhi trembled with emotion, his voice choked. "I knew you’d come back, I just knew it! Someone as proud as you would never have simply drowned herself. Wife, I’ve missed you so much."
Shen Siyi reached out and patted his back comfortingly.
"There, there. Why are you crying in front of our child? Have you no shame?"
"I’m not crying."
"Alright, alright, you’re not crying. Since everything is settled, I’m getting ready to leave."
Xie Suzhi’s head snapped up, his sharp eyes filled with stunned tears. "You’re leaving again? Wait for me, then. I’ll just tell Ningning, and I’ll leave with you!"
Shen Siyi tilted her head. "The place I’m going is a future you’ve never been a part of. Aren’t you afraid?"
"I’m only afraid of you not being there."
Shen Siyi burst out laughing. Tugging at his sleeve, she asked, "So, have you taken any concubines these past few years?"
"None! Absolutely none!" Xie Suzhi all but raised three fingers to swear an oath.
He gazed adoringly at his wife. "Raising Xu’er and An’er was very demanding. I don’t know whether they take after you or me, but one is quiet and the other is stubborn. So I’ve always raised them myself, until they grew up and could stand on their own."
Shen Siyi was quite pleased to hear that.
She reached out and gently wrapped her arms around Xie Suzhi’s waist.
"You’ve worked hard, my husband."
"So are you still leaving?"
Shen Siyi burst into laughter. "You’re still as gullible as ever, aren’t you? Now that I’m here, of course I’m not leaving!"
"Xie Suzhi, this time, you’re really stuck growing old with me."
Upon hearing this, Xie Suzhi wept with joy. He swept Shen Siyi up into his arms, spinning in circles and laughing boisterously.
Meanwhile, Mo Lingwei looked at Ningning’s hands, his heart aching. "They’re injured so badly. We need to get down the mountain right away and treat them. Does it hurt a lot?"
Ningning couldn’t stop smiling.
"It doesn’t hurt at all, and after seeing Mother, I feel these injuries were all worth it!"
How could Mo Lingwei believe her? Normally, when Ningning was with him, he would fret over a single lost strand of her hair.
Now, with her fingers covered in wounds, his heart naturally clenched with worry.
Mo Lingwei gently blew on her fingers, doting on her.
Just as they were speaking, Hei Diao’s voice came from nearby.
"Hey, could you spare a thought for me? My wings hurt a lot, too!"
Ningning had almost forgotten.
She hurried over, took out the Spirit Grass she had for Hei Diao, and fed it to him.
Hei Diao mumbled with its beak full, "Feed me some snow, too."
After Ningning did so, she asked with a smile, "I heard that birds trained through harsh taming methods are completely obedient to their masters. They might even die if their master commands it. So why did you betray Tian Xuezhen for my sake?"
Hei Diao shot her a look. "There’s no reason. This king does as he pleases."
"Is that so?"
"Fine, I might as well tell you. Even though I’m an eagle, you treat me like a person. The feeling’s not bad, so I didn’t want you to die. That old bastard was the one who deserved to die."
Ningning laughed.
Hei Diao tried flapping its wings to fly, but they still hurt terribly.
"Is this grass you gave me even working? Why does it still hurt so much... Ah! My wing! There’s a huge hole in it!"
Hei Diao twisted its head around and saw the injury for itself, nearly fainting on the spot.
Ningning soothed him, "You just ate it, it won’t heal that quickly. But don’t you worry. Now that my mother is back, you’ll definitely be all healed up!"
...
Ningning was right.
Using the new system on her ship, Shen Siyi healed Hei Diao’s wing and its left claw.
With her return, she also operated the system to stop the torrential downpour.
At her command, Xie Suzhi led his men to distribute supplies and aid the people in the city. He also had General Peng released.
However, Tian Xuezhen had nearly destroyed the protection system. After stopping the torrential rains across the land, the energy on Shen Siyi’s ship was almost completely depleted.
She detached the last small shuttle.
She had Master Gu board it.
Master Gu’s family was in the future, and he had already been waiting for many years.
On the Top of Tianshan Mountain, Ningning, Mo Lingwei, and Xie Suzhi stood with Shen Siyi to see Master Gu off.
Standing before the shuttle, a trembling Master Gu was about to kneel and kowtow to thank Shen Siyi for her benevolence.
But Shen Siyi stopped him.
"Mr. Gu, when you return and inherit my ship, you must carry on our pioneering spirit—be fearless and brave."
Master Gu nodded tearfully. "Captain Shen, I... I will build a monument in your honor so that future generations will always remember you."
But Shen Siyi just smiled. "That’s not important. In a hundred years, we’ll all just be dust. What matters is the life you live. Never make a choice you’ll regret."
Master Gu nodded slowly, then bid farewell to Ningning and the others.
They watched as the shuttle lifted off. Then, with a loud sonic boom, it vanished from the sky.
The family of four walked back down the mountain together.
Shen Siyi kept her arm around Ningning. It seemed she wanted to make up for all the lost time and shower her daughter with all her love.
"Mother, Master Gu said you’re a very important person in the future. If you went back, you could accomplish even greater things. Will you regret staying behind?"
"Not at all."
"But Master Gu had to go back."
"Because his home is there. He didn’t go back to achieve anything, but for the family he has longed for day and night."
Shen Siyi said, stroking Ningning’s small face, "But my home is here. So I’m staying."
Ningning was deeply moved. Shen Siyi’s gaze shifted to Mo Lingwei beside her, and her tone changed. "Alright, now it’s time for you two to tell me exactly what’s going on between you!"
