Chapter 783: Chapter 650: Analysis
Jeming hovered about ten meters above the sea, with the water below constantly churning.
Despite already leaving Wudu, the fog above the sea was even denser than on the land.
It was as if someone had stuffed the entire sea into a giant steamer, with visibility for an ordinary person barely reaching two meters.
The air was thick with a salty, fishy smell, mixed with an indescribable rotten sweetness.
Jeming made a quick calculation and realized he had left the coastline of Wudu, flying roughly a hundred nautical miles southwest.
The signal from the Eye of the Micro-Light was getting stronger.
The shark monster was less than two nautical miles ahead, the signal steady and unmoving.
Jeming had hoped it would enter some hidden base, or be met by accomplices, or at least find a hiding spot.
But the information returned by the Eye of the Micro-Light detected no other enemy energy fluctuations.
Confirming he was near the Eye of the Micro-Light’s area, Jeming slowed down, gliding soundlessly through the thick fog.
Void Step reduced his presence to the minimum, with the wind over the ocean passing by him without creating any ripples.
Jeming quickly located the target.
The monster floated on the sea surface, half its body exposed to the air, swaying with the churning waves.
The five or six-meter-tall body looked particularly small in the gray-black seawater.
Even though he had already received the messages from the Eye of the Micro-Light, seeing the real situation still left Jeming somewhat disappointed.
The monster before him had no support and was collapsing on its own.
The skin covered in fine scales was peeling off in large patches, revealing muscular tissue below without any protective epidermis, marred with ulcers and white pus.
Its dorsal fin was also broken, dark liquid seeping slowly from the cut, staining the surrounding sea a sickly brown.
The shark head was still there.
But the pitch-black eyes had turned cloudy, the surface of the eyeballs covered in a greyish-white film.
The gums of those inward-bent teeth in its mouth had turned black and shriveled, with a few teeth loosened, slightly wobbling with its weak breathing.
The twisted human face pressed against the shark head had also completely deformed.
Once identifiable facial features were now like outlines crushed by an invisible hand, leaving only some blurred pits.
Jeming hovered just a few meters from it, looking down at everything.
Undoubtedly, this monster had been abandoned.
It was left to fend for itself on this desolate sea.
Their side was cautious.
They knew this monster was exposed in battle and could be tracked, so they discarded it without hesitation after its mission was complete.
Jeming fell silent for a moment, then descended.
His feet touched the sea surface, the water forming a small dimple beneath him but not soaking his shoes.
He walked to the monster, extended his right hand, fingers spread wide, and grasped a still intact scale on its shoulder.
Though the monster’s body was on the brink of collapse, it still reacted swiftly.
Its body shuddered violently, the cloudy black eyes suddenly focusing, staring at Jeming.
The shark’s mouth opened, a muffled growl emanating from deep within its throat.
Its left arm suddenly raised, striking toward Jeming.
Despite the monster’s dying struggle, Jeming didn’t even bother to dodge.
His right hand held the scale unmoving, casually taking the blow on his seemingly unguarded cheek.
Bang!
The impact made a dull thud.
Even in its dying state, the monster’s strength was astonishing, the force of that palm enough to crush a car.
Yet Jeming’s body didn’t even sway, not even the seemingly soft parts of his face showed any distortion, as if catching a leaf falling from a tree.
A glint of confusion flashed in the monster’s black eyes.
It exerted its left arm, trying to push Jeming’s hand away, but Jeming’s fingers were like five steel nails, firmly embedded in its palm.
Jeming paid no heed to the monster’s dying struggle, instead quietly activating the All-Purpose Eye and Fate System.
Golden light glowed on his forehead, filling his pupils with countless runes.
The All-Purpose Eye penetrated the monster’s skin, muscles, and bones, reaching the core structure within its body.
Jeming needed to uncover as many of the technological methods used within it before it completely collapsed.
Information surged into his consciousness like a tide.
Sealing structures.
Strange fusion techniques.
Traces of biological transformation.
Energy transmission pathways...
Each layer was rapidly peeled away and analyzed by the All-Purpose Eye.
Time ticked by, second by second.
The monster’s body continued to rot in Jeming’s hand, scales falling off piece by piece.
The muscles beneath its skin began liquifying, dark liquid dripping from Jeming’s fingers into the sea.
Its struggle grew weaker and weaker, the roar turned into a muffled whimper, and finally, even the whimper faded away.
Finally, Jeming withdrew his hand.
He floated upward, leaving behind the rapidly disintegrating body.
The creature had lost its life force, and in a few hours, it would completely break down into basic matter, returning to this plane’s energy cycle.
Jeming did not look at it again.
He stood above the sea, eyes closed, organizing the information he had just collected in his mind.
The analysis results made him frown slightly.
The Wizard technology hidden within the creature, aimed at bizarre transformation methods... were fairly crude.
Not that the technology itself was crude, but the technology applied to this creature was clearly a sort of "downgraded" version.
The core principles were correct, but the execution was lacking in many fine details.
This indicated that the creature was not created by a Wizard, but that this world’s indigenous people obtained knowledge provided by Wizards.
Jeming could clearly discern that some of these technologies were consistent with the knowledge systems he mastered.
The other’s level... at least in the field of bizarre transformation, did not surpass him.
Perhaps even slightly lower.
But Jeming did not rush to a conclusion.
Because these technologies were the product of collaboration between the indigenous and Wizards.
That Wizard might have only provided a lower tier of technology or held back some guidance during the indigenous transformation process.
After all, no one would hand over their deepest secrets completely to collaborators.
Jeming opened his eyes, gazing at the thick fog churning over the sea, and began pondering another question.
The efficiency of this Wizard’s actions was much faster than his.
From the time he entered this plane, it had been just over two months.
He’d been lurking in Wudu, researching anomalies, gathering materials, and arranging the Eye of the Micro-Light.
The progress was not slow, but the Wizard behind the creature before him was evidently faster.
This person had already found local collaborators, established a considerable force, and could even produce such a level of deep fusion anomaly.
Though the technology was crude, that the indigenous of this world could achieve this from scratch pointed to a fairly mature action plan on the other side.
Find proxies, find collaborators, have the local forces work for them.
This plan was indeed good.
Jeming also had a similar plan, but at this stage, it was still at the level of preliminary arrangements.
Those black market intermediaries were at best temporary measures, helping him run errands, buy things, and provide some intelligence, and far from qualified collaborators.
And that unknown Wizard already had the organizational power to infiltrate the Spirit Communicator Association activities, launch a maritime raid, and even unhesitatingly discard a "pawn."
In this plane, including him, the Wizards all entered through Wizard Oston’s assignment.
Though not antagonistic to each other, they were definitely competitors.
The problem now is that at that time, there were only one thousand task slots, and none of those who grabbed a spot amidst so many competitors were simple characters.
Overall, there are three types of Wizards who managed to grab task slots.
The first type, powerful ones.
They can multitask, constantly keep part of their attention on the Magic Network Terminal, searching the Elite Combat Unit task system.
Upon seeing the task instantaneously, they have enough spare power to surpass other Wizards and secure a slot.
These Wizards usually aren’t low-level, at least Sixth Level, or possibly Seventh Level.
Their strength itself is their greatest capital.
The second type is Wizards like Jeming.
With relatively good luck, they saw the task at the right time, and their strength was decent enough to grab a slot.
This type probably numbers the least, with widely varying strength, and a large gap between upper and lower limits.
The third type is the most terrifying: "lucky" Wizards.
Here, "lucky" doesn’t mean sheer random luck but "good fortune" manipulated by Destiny Element knowledge.
For Wizards proficient in Destiny Element knowledge, luck is something that can be manipulated.
An adept Destiny Mage merely needs to slightly "pluck" destiny’s strings at the instant the task appears, making "securing a slot" the most probable result in the weave of fate lines.
Wizards who can achieve this level have quite a profound grasp of Destiny Element knowledge, completely beyond the likes of Jeming, who is just getting started in Destiny Element knowledge.
No matter the type, they would be quite hard to deal with as competitors.
After all, resources are limited.
In this plane, the number of anomalies that can be researched per unit area per unit time is fixed. If you grab one more, I grab one less.
With Great Wizard Oston present in this plane, Wizards, even when competing, ensure that the intensity will not be too high.
But competitive relationships objectively exist.
Moreover, that unknown Wizard has already displayed a faster organization ability than his.
If he doesn’t accelerate his pace, once the other party finishes harvesting all the research resources around Wudu, it will be hard for him to find high-quality research samples.
"It seems... I need to speed up."
Jeming withdrew his gaze from the sea and flew towards Wudu.
