Chapter 398: Chapter 210: Fiery Red Long Hair Dances in the Wind
This was an unexpected turn of events.
However, compared to Adventurers, these villagers were just ordinary people. They wouldn’t be much help even if they did go, and would likely just end up as casualties.
So he held up a hand, gesturing for everyone to calm down.
"I understand how you feel, but the Goblin numbers have grown out of control. The front lines are far too dangerous. It’s best to just leave this to us."
In a world with Extraordinary Strength, sheer numbers weren’t always an advantage.
After calming the villagers, Lin Mo led the remaining Adventurers onward toward Roland Town.
Since they were traveling by night, their pace was inevitably slowed. Growing impatient and worried about the situation in the town, Lin Mo left the main group and raced ahead alone.
His Agility Attribute was a full 120 points. When he truly ran, he was countless times faster than a horse-drawn carriage.
Before long, the silhouette of Roland Town appeared on the horizon.
With his [Eagle Eye] skill, while he couldn’t see as clearly as a true nocturnal Demon, it was more than enough for Lin Mo to assess the general situation.
Outside Roland Town, Guards and Goblins were locked in a fierce battle.
But it was painfully obvious that the Guards were at a significant disadvantage.
To call it a battle was generous; they were merely clinging to life.
Roland Town’s crude defensive walls were no match for such a massive number of Goblins. Many had already broken into the town and were burning, killing, and looting at will.
Lin Mo rushed to the front lines. He first healed several heavily wounded Guards, then with a wave of his hand, a biting chill gathered in his palm.
[Blizzard]!
The hailstones that suddenly rained from the sky caught the Goblins completely off guard, instantly crushing a huge swathe of them to death.
The Goblins fortunate enough to be outside the Blizzard’s range breathed a collective sigh of relief, feeling lucky to have survived the calamity.
The next moment, however, their bodies seemed to move on their own. Their eyes locked onto the man who had created the Blizzard, and their legs carried them forward uncontrollably, forcing them into the storm’s range where they were swallowed by the hail.
[Taunt]
The skill was surprisingly effective.
It was an indirect way of increasing the kill radius of Lin Mo’s Magic Skills.
[Blizzard] Skill Level +23
[Taunt] Skill Level +29
Because Taunt was a Green Excellent Level skill while Blizzard was a Blue Excellent Level skill, he gained more Skill Level for Taunt, even though only a fraction of the Goblins had been affected by it and walked into the storm.
"Skill [Taunt] Level 3 (40/40) has leveled up!"
"Current Skill: [Taunt] Level 4 (23/100)"
’Level 4.’
The Guards behind him stared in shock and delight at the young man who had suddenly appeared.
"Esteemed Mage, thank you for your help!"
Old Wright stammered his thanks, his face etched with emotion. He had been slashed by Goblins numerous times and was on the brink of death, but a ray of Holy Light had suddenly descended upon him, healing his wounds almost instantly.
"You’re welcome."
Lin Mo said, unleashing another [Flame Linked Stars].
"Sir, are you all that’s left of the Roland Town Guards?"
Lin Mo was confused. Previously, when the Goblin disaster was breaking out all over, the Lord of Roland Town had been notoriously unwilling to dispatch his Guards to help the surrounding villages. So, Roland Town’s forces should have been well-preserved.
Even after a fierce battle, their numbers shouldn’t have dwindled to just one or two hundred.
"They’re gone..."
Old Wright’s tone was dejected. "After we suffered heavy losses on the first night, the Lord... Baron Lael and his fiancée, Yunice Lawrence, left ahead of schedule. They took many of the young Guards with them, leaving only us old-timers. There were less than five hundred of us in total, and most are already dead at the hands of the Goblins."
’They fled?’
Lin Mo was stunned. "Where did they run to?"
’Lania City?’
’But the situation in Lania City isn’t necessarily much better than here.’
"We don’t know."
Old Wright shook his head. "We only found out they had left this morning."
’Never mind, that’s not what’s important right now.’
Lin Mo shook his head and looked at the Goblin Army before him.
Compared to the ones that had attacked the surrounding villages, the Goblin Army assaulting Roland Town was on a completely different scale.
The Goblins at the other villages had numbered a thousand at most, whereas this Goblin Army likely numbered between twenty and thirty thousand!
Furthermore, there were many formidable Goblins among them. Lin Mo wasn’t afraid of them, but even he couldn’t possibly defend against so many Goblins alone...
Aside from these Guards, he could see a few Adventurers fighting for their lives near the town gate, but their efforts were having a negligible effect.
"What’s the situation inside the town?"
Lin Mo asked, continuing to cast Magic into the distance.
The surrounding Guards, including those he had just healed, were still locked in combat with the Goblins.
"The president of the Roland Town Adventurer’s Association has been doing everything he can to organize an evacuation of the citizens to the next city. It should still be ongoing. This town... it’s already done for..."
Old Wright lopped off a Goblin’s head with his sword, his face filled with sorrow. He knew in his heart that it was impossible to save this town, his home.
