Chapter 460: Chapter 228: Another Promotion, New Skill: Meteor Sting
[Meteor Sting] Skill Level +17
[Meteor Sting] Skill Level +26
...
’This is fun. So much fun.’
After a good while, Lin Mo had finally had his fun. There weren’t many Goblins left; he had killed almost all of them.
Aside from twenty or thirty scattered Ordinary Goblins, only the utterly wretched Giant Goblin remained.
"ROAR—!"
The creature’s face was a mask of frustration. It had been chasing him for ages but hadn’t managed to land a single hit on Lin Mo. Every time it seemed like it was about to connect, it would miss by a hair’s breadth...
Lin Mo looked at the panting Giant Goblin and crooked a finger at it.
The Giant Goblin instantly lost its mind. Without a thought for whether it could win, it roared and charged at Lin Mo.
Lin Mo waited until it was right in front of him, less than a meter away, before suddenly raising his hand. Qi and Blood condensed at his fist—
[Rapid Charge Fist]!
"THUD!"
A muffled thud.
Though he’d struck second, his punch landed first, accurately smashing into the Giant Goblin’s chest.
The Giant Goblin’s body froze, its eyes bulging from their sockets.
The next moment, its body crumbled and disintegrated under the unbearable force.
[Rapid Charge Fist] Skill Level +20
A Light Ball Technique flew in, killing a Goblin that was trying to flee for its life.
Ali’s voice followed. With a furious shout, she swung her Heavy Sword and beheaded a Goblin.
Feney and the others had finally arrived.
"You already finished them all off..."
After finishing off the remaining Goblins in a few quick moves, Ali surveyed the chaotic battlefield, pouting. She looked like she hadn’t had her fill of the fight.
"Haha, I was just worried they’d get away."
Lin Mo chuckled, then began to clear the battlefield and collect the loot.
As he cut off the Goblins’ ears, he checked the series of notifications that had just flashed by.
’Skill [Meteor Sting] Level 1 (10/10) has leveled up!’
’Skill [Meteor Sting] Level 2 (20/20) has leveled up!’
’Skill [Meteor Sting] Level 3 (40/40) has leveled up!’
...
’Current Skill: [Meteor Sting] Level 4 (37/100).’
’Gained attribute points: Strength +3!’
Because he had used it so many times, his [Meteor Sting] skill had jumped straight from Level 1 to Level 4, netting him the attribute points.
Lin Mo’s Basic Strength Attribute now reached 81 points, meeting the standard for a Level 8 Warrior.
’Promotion conditions met. Professional Warrior (Level 7) promoted—Current: Professional Warrior (Level 8).’
’Gained Professional Attribute Amplification: Strength +5, Constitution +2, Agility +1!’
From Level 7 to Level 8, the total attribute amplification was 8 points, which was 2 points of Strength Amplification more than the increase from Level 6 to 7.
The loot was quickly collected. Lin Mo did a quick count and found that he was still short a few Ordinary Goblins and several Bronze Level Goblins to complete the quest.
’One more wave should do it...’
It wasn’t too late yet, so after a short rest, the group set off again.
After searching for a while, they finally ran into another wave of Goblins foraging for food, which was enough to meet the quest’s requirements.
By now, the hour was growing late, and it was no longer wise to remain in Demon territory.
Lin Mo led the group out of Zone 8. They made sure to put some distance behind them before setting up camp in a clearing.
Although they were quite strong now, they still wouldn’t skimp on necessary preparations, like setting traps.
It had become a habit, and it was always useful to some extent.
Dinner was easy enough to sort out. The forest was teeming with Demons, so they could just catch one nearby and roast it.
It was important to eat a lot of Demon Flesh. Even though meat from Low Level Demons increased one’s Attributes very slowly, any increase, no matter how small, was a tangible improvement and better than nothing.
Besides, Demon Flesh itself was tastier than regular poultry. The meat was more succulent, had almost no gamey smell, and could be turned into a delicious meal with minimal preparation.
Lin Mo sent his Clone out to hunt while he opened his status panel to check on the [Meteor Sting] skill.
He had been in a hurry earlier and didn’t have time to choose an Evolutionary Path. Since the skill had jumped straight to Level 4, he could now make two choices at once.
Please select an Evolutionary Direction—
Evolutionary Path 1: Rapid Fire I: Allows Meteor Sting to be cast as a two-hit combo (optional). Each strike deals 80% of the original damage.
Evolutionary Path 2: Extend and Widen I: Increases the attack range of Meteor Sting, increasing both length and width by 50%.
One path increased the range, while the other was a more specialized "rapid fire" option. It allowed the skill to be used twice in succession at the cost of reduced damage. This sounded powerful, but it had its downsides.
Reduced damage meant he might fail to break through the defense of slightly stronger opponents. Moreover, consecutive casting would consume extra Qi and Blood.
However, given that Meteor Sting already had a long range and some area-of-effect potential, choosing Evolutionary Path 2 to enhance that range even further would make it much more effective against groups of monsters or weaker opponents.
And most of the time, the Demons Lin Mo faced were weaker than himself anyway.
So, since he had two opportunities to choose an Evolutionary Path, he simply picked both.
A short while later, the Clone returned with a Level 3 Rock-Horned Sheep. They couldn’t eat the whole thing, so he took the best cuts for roasting and used the rest to stew a pot of mutton soup.
Roasted mutton paired with mutton soup, plus some fine bread brought from the city, made for an exceptionally satisfying meal.
