Chapter 491: Chapter 239: Rotting Swamp Lurker, Frost Dragon’s Breath
It lacked the highly developed intelligence of other Demons at the same Level.
Its intelligence was no different from an Ordinary Black Mud Monster. It acted purely on instinct, endlessly devouring and absorbing nutrients to grow stronger.
As these thoughts ran through his mind, Lin Mo raised his hand.
Potent Ice Elemental Energy gathered frantically in his palm before erupting outward.
[Frost Storm]!
At such close range, the terrifying power of this Epic skill was on full display.
A bitter wind howled as a blizzard raged.
A massive amount of Ice Element transformed into a dense shower of white specks, raining down from the sky.
A thin layer of Frost began to visibly coat the Rotting Swamp Lurker’s body.
But that was far from enough...
Lin Mo drew his Frost Dragon Scale Sword and poured his Qi and Blood into the blade. A terrifying Dragon Mighty instantly spread out, making everyone present shudder.
Even the behemoth beneath them was intimidated by the terrifying aura, and its movements became noticeably smaller.
The Dragon Mighty effect of the Frost Dragon Scale Sword also reduced the All Attributes of Demons Below Epic Level by 10%.
’Still not enough!’
Lin Mo continued pouring his Qi and Blood into the sword. The next moment, the blade erupted in a dazzling blue light.
"Activate, Frost Dragon’s Breath!"
Besides its Hidden Attributes and Equipment Amplification, the sword also had an additional Equipment Skill.
Frost Dragon’s Breath: When activated, attacks (including Skills like Sword Qi) are imbued with the power of a Frost Giant Dragon’s breath, dealing an additional 20% piercing damage (ignores Armor and Defense, but is still affected by the target’s Constitution and Shield) and have a chance to inflict the Frozen effect. Deals an additional 5% True Damage to already Frozen enemies (ignores Armor and Defense, Shields, and defensive capabilities from Constitution!). Duration: 120 seconds. After use, the breath’s power will enter a brief dormant state and requires 8 hours to recover.
Lin Mo had never once used this Epic weapon in actual combat since obtaining it.
There had never been a need.
In all this time, he had never faced an opponent that forced him to go all out. Besides, the skill had its limits—after one use, it required an eight-hour cooldown, so he couldn’t just use it recklessly.
So this was the first time he had ever activated this powerful Equipment Skill in battle.
Instantly, a torrential power surged from the sword and into Lin Mo’s body.
The effect of Frost Dragon’s Breath didn’t just apply to his attacks; his Skills would now also carry the piercing damage, the chance to inflict Frozen, and the subsequent True Damage.
And according to the tests Lin Mo had conducted while resting, the scope of "Skills" affected wasn’t limited to the Warrior Class—it included *all* his Skills!
In other words, [Frost Storm] would benefit from the effect as well.
The power of the Frost Giant Dragon coursed through Lin Mo’s body, causing him to glow with blue light. Long ice spikes "grew" from his elbows, and a pair of dragon horns became faintly visible on the hood of his Mage Robe.
Lin Mo raised his hand again, his ice-blue eyes fixed on the cracking sheet of ice below.
[Frost Storm]!
For a split second, the world seemed to stand still. A terrifying torrent of Ice Element poured down like a cascading glacier.
A thick layer of ice visibly formed over the Rotting Swamp Lurker beneath them.
"What are you staring at? Go, now!"
The others had been watching, stunned and speechless. Lin Mo’s shout snapped them out of it, and they scrambled out of the carriages, sliding down the sheet of ice.
With quick reflexes, Lin Mo cut the ropes to his own carriage, saving his two Gale Horses as well.
The two animals were clever. When the carriage began sinking into the muck, they had already jumped onto the driver’s box to escape, so they weren’t absorbed into the Rotting Swamp Lurker’s body.
In the center of the caravan, the man in black frowned, his face a mask of shock as he watched the scene unfold. His forehead was soaked with cold sweat.
He stepped out of his carriage, his eyes meeting Glen’s in the distance, and gave a slight nod.
’Things have come to this,’ he thought. ’Even if we’re exposed, we have to get the Young Master out of here first. We’ll figure out the rest as we go.’
He leaped onto another carriage behind him and tore the door right off its hinges.
"Young Master, let’s go!"
The young man inside, who had been feigning composure, nodded. Together, they escaped down the sheet of ice.
Within just two or three minutes, everyone who could escape had made it to a patch of clear ground nearby.
A few unlucky souls had lost their balance at the very beginning, falling into the black ooze to be devoured by the Rotting Swamp Lurker. They were surely long dead by now.
Still shaken, everyone watched the Rotting Swamp Lurker slowly squirm away, their faces filled with the relief of having survived a catastrophe.
"That was terrifying..."
Luke’s face was deathly pale. "We were so close to dying in there."
"If it weren’t for Lin Mo, it wouldn’t have been ’close’... We’d all have been devoured by that monster by now!"
Deke’s voice trembled as he looked at the carriages, now almost halfway submerged.
This was the first time he had seen Lin Mo use his full power. All he could say was that their guild leader hadn’t been wrong to concede defeat back then...
If they had really fought to the bitter end, the outcome would likely have been the same.
"It’s just a shame about the carriages. And the mission... it’s a failure now," Hahn said, lowering his head in dismay.
"Who says the mission is a failure?"
Lin Mo finally spoke, his gaze still locked on the behemoth.
’My last spell wasn’t just to freeze the ground and help them escape,’ Lin Mo thought. ’With the buff from Frost Dragon’s Breath, it also dealt a significant amount of damage to the Rotting Swamp Lurker.’
’And my Magic Power and Qi and Blood are still plentiful.’
"I’m going to slay it!"
’This mission has been nothing but trouble. Sure, we had bad luck, but after wasting so much time and effort—so much sunk cost—how could I just accept failure now?’
’Besides, that carriage was really comfortable. I’m not ready to let it go just like that...’
Deke stared at him, utterly astonished. How could they possibly kill such a behemoth?
"You in?"
Lin Mo turned to look at him, his eyes filled with thick killing intent and, perhaps, a hint of excitement.
In that moment, Deke was reminded of himself more than a decade ago—young, full of spirit, and ready to take on the world.
"Then let’s do it!"
The man in black exchanged a look with Glen. Without the carriages and the cargo for cover, they wouldn’t be able to complete their mission either.
"Look after the Young Master."
He said, then followed after the other two.
"Mr. Lin Mo, please be careful!"
A beam of Holy Light shone down on the three men. Feney watched Lin Mo depart, her eyes seeming to shine.
Ali’s eyes were filled with pride, but her smile was tinged with bitterness.
’Once again, I can’t do anything. I can’t help him at all...’
Shefilya stood ramrod straight, her profound gaze fixed on that figure, whose back was not particularly broad.
