Chapter 455: Chapter 423: The Downfall of Liu Qingyuan
Exposed by Liu Zhi, Liuqing Garden’s heart sank. He also felt a pang of regret. ’How could I have been so careless? I can’t believe I forgot to get rid of the Night Dog’s Beast Taming Ball or at least hide it somewhere.’
Now, all it would take was for someone to search him, and the jig would be up. He wouldn’t be able to talk his way out of it, no matter how hard he tried.
Besides, there were so many people here, including powerful individuals like Teacher Yang and Teacher Liang. Plenty of people from the Investigation Bureau were present as well. There was no escape.
At this thought, a wave of deep regret washed over the crestfallen Liuqing Garden.
’It’s over!’
’Everything is over!’
Destroying archaeological artifacts and deliberately framing someone else... The fate awaiting him would be absolutely bleak. Expulsion from the university was a certainty, and he almost certainly couldn’t escape jail time.
His future was utterly ruined.
As he sank into utter despair, his eyes fell on Li Qian. To his surprise, the corner of Li Qian’s mouth was curled into a mocking smirk.
The sight sent a rush of blood straight to the top of his skull. Liuqing Garden snapped, subconsciously hurling the Beast Taming Ball he had hidden in his clothes. "Night Dog, kill him!" he snarled.
Li Qian jumped in surprise. The Beast Taming Ball was heading right for him.
The Beast Taming Ball burst open. A black hound, a full size larger than a normal dog, leaped out and lunged straight for Li Qian.
Li Qian watched the Night Dog charge toward him, the beast looming larger and larger in his vision. But once he registered what was happening, he wasn’t the least bit worried.
Even though he had the chance to summon his own Pet Beast to defend himself, he chose to simply ignore the attack, paying it no mind.
It wasn’t because the Night Dog’s attack was weak or posed no threat. Rather, Li Qian knew with absolute certainty that as long as Teacher Yang and Teacher Liang were here, nothing would happen to him.
And he was right. When the Night Dog was about two meters from his face, its body suddenly froze in mid-air, completely motionless.
A moment later, as Li Qian watched, the Night Dog was sent flying like a cannonball. It slammed hard into the ground, blood spilling from its mouth as it was instantly knocked out of the fight.
Li Qian could also tell that whoever had intervened had shown considerable restraint, ensuring the Night Dog only hit the ground without damaging any of the artifacts in the stone chamber.
Li Qian’s gaze swept the room, and he quickly spotted a Time Spirit emitting a faint, fluorescent glow.
Clearly, it had been Teacher Liang. Her voice confirmed it a moment later. "Trying to launch a sneak attack right in front of me? What a joke!"
"Take him away and detain him!" Teacher Liang ordered immediately as she saw an investigator jogging over.
Hearing this, several investigators didn’t hesitate for a second. They hauled Liuqing Garden up by his arms and dragged him away like a sack of dead weight.
After Liuqing Garden was hauled off, his accomplice, Liu Zhi, fared no better and was dragged away right after him.
The other students who witnessed this couldn’t help but feel a chill. They knew that being taken away like this meant Liuqing Garden’s life was over. There was no coming back from this.
But even as they felt a sense of pity, they were also filled with indignation. The guy had deliberately plotted against and framed a fellow student, not to mention destroying archaeological artifacts. He truly got what he deserved.
Watching Liuqing Garden and Liu Zhi get dragged off like dead dogs, Teacher Huang’s expression turned exceptionally sour. It wasn’t just his students being taken away; his reputation was being dragged through the mud right along with them.
"I’m so sorry, Li Qian. My apologies, Teacher Liang. I never imagined Liuqing Garden was this kind of student. He has not only shamed me, but he has also brought shame upon our Shazhou Defense University."
Teacher Huang was nothing if not adaptable. Realizing he was in an unfavorable position and had no ground to stand on, he immediately threw Liuqing Garden under the bus.
The implication was obvious: he was claiming to be an innocent party who had also been deceived by Liuqing Garden.
He was trying to wash his hands of the whole affair, emerging completely untainted.
Teacher Liang shot Teacher Huang a look, a flash of disgust in her eyes. "The archaeological work is nearly finished," she said coolly, "and now this has happened. I think it would be best for you and your students to leave now, Teacher Huang."
Though her words were framed as a suggestion, her tone brooked no argument. Her intent was perfectly clear.
Teacher Huang understood immediately. His team was being kicked out. Far from being angry, he nodded and readily agreed, taking the out he was given. "Right, right. We’ll leave the rest of the work to the teachers and students of Shazhou Beast Taming University. We’ll be on our way, then."
He knew that it would be incredibly awkward for his team to stay. They would be met with scornful looks at every turn. It was better to just leave early.
Besides, just as Teacher Liang had said, the archaeological dig was almost over. There was nothing more to be gained by staying.
Watching Teacher Huang lead his team away in disgrace, Li Qian felt a sense of satisfaction. He looked at Teacher Liang and offered his sincere thanks.
If it hadn’t been for Teacher Liang just now, he never would have gotten out of that situation so easily. Even if he could have eventually proven his innocence, it would have been a huge hassle.
After Teacher Huang and his team scurried away, only Teacher Liang’s and Teacher Yang’s teams remained. Seeing that the matter was resolved, Teacher Yang also led his team away.
"You can all head out, too," Teacher Liang said to her students.
The students were perceptive. Without a moment’s hesitation, they got the hint and quickly left Stone Chamber No. 1.
Only Teacher Liang, Li Qian, Irina, and Bai Bingbing remained. Teacher Liang fixed her gaze on Bai Bingbing and, after a moment, let out a sigh.
Bai Bingbing lowered her head, her voice full of self-reproach. "Teacher Liang, Li Qian... I’m so sorry. I’m the one who got you into this."
In this world, there is no love without reason, nor is there hate without a cause.
Considering everything that had happened, it was easy to deduce that Liuqing Garden’s elaborate scheme against Li Qian was, in all likelihood, related to Bai Bingbing.
The fact that he had designs on Bai Bingbing was as plain as the nose on your face.
Li Qian spoke up to comfort her. "You can’t blame yourself for this. You made your feelings perfectly clear. That guy was just too extreme... to do all this over something so small... He brought this on himself."
"Either way, I still caused trouble for you all!" Bai Bingbing said, still feeling guilty.
Irina chimed in at that moment. "It’s your fault too," she said, looking at Li Qian. "You should have kept your distance from her. Then that guy wouldn’t have gotten the wrong idea!"
Hearing this, Li Qian immediately nodded in agreement. "Right, right. I’m also at fault."
Seeing this, Bai Bingbing’s expression fell.
Teacher Liang shook her head with a helpless sigh and changed the subject. "Although a portion of the mural was destroyed, it’s not a huge issue. I took photos for our records right when we came in. I’ll send that part to you later."
"Thank you, Teacher Liang!" Li Qian said, nodding in gratitude.
