Chapter 794: Chapter 537: Unfrozen Lake at the World’s Peak
The surroundings were deathly still.
There was no trace of life.
It was as if this was a forbidden zone for life, the end of all things.
"This is the place."
Mage Delin slowly dismounted from the back of the Ice Wind Demon Serpent, his boots making a faint, crisp sound on the slick ice.
His gaze swept across the glacier, which hadn’t melted in ten thousand years, finally settling on the very center of the summit.
In the center of that mirror-smooth ice, an unusual sight abruptly entered their vision.
It was a lake.
A lake several kilometers in diameter.
Bizarrely, at the peak of the world, where temperatures were so low it felt as if the very air might freeze, the lake remained unfrozen.
The lake water was a deep azure. Under the cold Moonlight, it shimmered and rippled with a mysterious luster.
The lake’s edge joined perfectly with the eternally frozen glacier, yet the two remained distinctly separate.
On one side was grim ice, solidified for eons; on the other was shimmering lake water.
These two completely different states coexisted here in a most disharmonious way, forming a shocking and bizarre tableau.
"This..."
Mage Wendel’s eyes widened, his face filled with disbelief.
"How is this possible?"
"At this temperature, even Refined Iron would become as brittle as a cracker."
"And a lake hasn’t frozen over?"
Even the well-traveled Mage Morpheus wore a solemn expression.
"This isn’t normal."
"Not normal at all."
Mage Delin said nothing. His murky eyes were fixed on the deep blue lake, as if trying to see right through it.
His immense Spiritual Power had already spread out like invisible tentacles, silently enveloping the entire lake.
Raylo was also on high alert.
’An anomaly like this is a sure sign of trouble.’
For an Unfrozen Lake to appear at the peak of the world, a place where the Elements were extremely chaotic and violent, in itself signified a huge problem.
"Let’s go take a look."
With a thought from Raylo, the massive body of the Ice Wind Demon Head beneath his feet slowly rose into the air again, flying toward the center of the lake.
The closer they got to the lake’s surface, the clearer a strange sensation became.
Emanating from the lake water was an even more extreme chill.
It was a coldness that seeped into one’s very marrow, a gloom that felt as if it could freeze the soul.
The Ice Wind Demon Head hovered a hundred meters above the lake, its enormous body casting a vast shadow.
From this angle, the lake water looked crystal clear.
But it was a deceptive clarity.
After penetrating the surface, light seemed to be devoured by some invisible force. They could only see a few dozen meters down; any deeper was a heart-pounding darkness, as if it connected to an endless Abyss.
"Strange..."
Mage Delin, who had been silent, finally spoke, his brow deeply furrowed.
"My Spiritual Power can’t reach the bottom of the lake."
"There seems to be some kind of special force field within the water that blocks the penetration of Spiritual Power."
He closed his eyes and focused his senses once more.
A moment later, he slowly opened his eyes and shook his head.
"There’s no trace of the Hydra."
"Not a single shred."
"There are the auras of two Catastrophe Level Demons inside, and they’re rising. The lake’s strange properties are likely the reason these two Catastrophe Level Demons live here."
This conclusion made the atmosphere turn heavy once again.
’Did we come all this way for nothing again?’
Mage Wendel’s fiery temper was starting to get the better of him.
"Did that damn serpent really hide in the deep sea?"
"Dammit! A complete waste of time!"
Just then.
SPLASH!
The calm surface of the lake below suddenly erupted without warning!
Two massive columns of water shot toward the sky like twin water dragons, lunging straight for the Ice Wind Demon Head!
Then, amid the splashing water, two heads—so enormous they were suffocating to behold—slowly rose from beneath the surface.
They were the heads of two giant pythons!
Each head was larger than a small mountain.
Their bodies were covered in ice-blue scales, as translucent as Crystal, that refracted a grim, cold light under the Moonlight.
Their cold, vertical pupils locked onto the uninvited guests in the sky.
As their bodies continued to rise, a terrifying pressure swept out in all directions like a physical tsunami!
HISS!
The two giant pythons opened their cavernous maws simultaneously, letting out a heaven-shaking hiss.
The sound was filled with rage and icy killing intent.
The terrifying sound waves even caused fine cracks to appear on the surrounding hard glacier.
Just as Mage Delin had said, the two Catastrophe Level Demons that resided here had appeared.
"Catastrophe Level!"
Mage Wendel’s expression was grave.
"And there are two of them!"
Mage Delin’s gaze fell upon the two nearly identical Frost Giant Pythons, a sharp glint flashing in his murky eyes.
"It’s not as simple as them just being Catastrophe Level," he said slowly.
"They were born from the same source. Their auras are connected, and their Powers are complementary."
"Each one has already reached the High Tier Catastrophe Level."
"If they join forces, their strength is likely no less than an ordinary Catastrophe Level Peak!"
These words sent a chill down everyone’s spine.
Two High Tier Catastrophe Level Coexistence Magical Beasts!
This was definitely a force that would give even a Legendary Powerhouse trouble.
No wonder they could dominate the peak of the world and claim this Unfrozen Lake as their own.
"So this place already has masters."
Mage Morpheus clutched his Space Magic Ball, his expression guarded.
Evidently, Mage Delin’s earlier Spiritual Power scan had disturbed these two overlords sleeping at the bottom of the lake.
