Chapter 782: Chapter 769: Acquisition
Bado stood bewildered in the midst of chaos.
No sky, no ground, no up or down, no near or far, only boundless chaos surrounding him.
"Where... is this?"
He reached out his hand and his fingers sank into the chaos, the sensation sticky, like slipping into semi-dry mud, an indescribable resistance with a hint of warmth.
"What is this stuff?"
He didn’t know what he was doing or what he should do, but his hands instinctively plunged into the chaos, stirring it, as if trying to find something in this sticky mess.
Suddenly, his fingertips touched something.
The next moment, the chaos receded, the sticky feeling disappeared, replaced by a dimly lit room.
And in the center of the room stood a half-demon!
Bado’s body was faster than his mind, his center of gravity dropped, fists clenched, taking a fighting stance.
But the half-demon did not move, didn’t even look at Bado.
Curiously, Bado tried stepping forward, and a wondrous scene unfolded!
A ripple spread from his foot, rippled across the floor, finally converging on the half-demon, flowing into his cochlea.
Only then did the half-demon seem to notice Bado, slowly turning his head.
"This is..."
Before any exchange could occur, the chaos that had retreated to the surroundings suddenly surged up, instantly engulfing Bado.
...
Bado slowly opened his eyes, his vision gradually focused. He found himself lying on a soft bed, covered with thick bedding.
The fireplace logs burned fiercely, orange-red light dancing on the walls, warming the entire room.
On the bedside table sat several bottles of High Tier Healing Potion, the glass bottles gleamed amber in the firelight, one already half empty.
Bado stared at the half-empty potion for a while, memories slowly surfaced in his mind—Blue Dragon, thunder sphere, shattered axe... He was defeated by the Blue Dragon.
The dragon discovered them early, deliberately accumulated dragon breath, catching them completely off guard.
Yet Bado knew clearly that even without the dragon breath, they could not have won.
The gap was too big.
How come he wasn’t killed by that Blue Dragon?
Thinking this, Bado raised his arms, seeing his hands mixed with mycelium and body hair.
"So that’s how it is..."
He wasn’t angry nor panicked, understanding that his comrades must have had no other choice but to let mycelium symbiosis save him.
To be alive, there’s nothing to complain about.
Despite the heated debate among the Mountains regarding mycelium, Bado, who fought alongside Fungus Castle, felt no reluctance towards the mycelium on him.
"#%@#%..."
Voices came from outside, the room’s soundproofing was quite effective, Bado perked his ears but couldn’t hear what they were saying.
Just as Bado decided to give up, a strange perception suddenly emerged in his consciousness—he "saw" the sound!
The sound leaking through the door crack resembled an invisible thread, sketching the scene outside in his mind.
Outside was a living room, with two dwarves inside.
One was his comrade, the old Mage.
At the moment, the old Mage stood before the fireplace, anger pressing between his brows.
The person before him wore much more refined robes than the old Mage, the collar and cuffs embroidered with intricate patterns, adorned with gemstones, undoubtedly a young noble.
Everything in the living room was clear in Bado’s mind, even outside he could sense partially, further on it wasn’t possible.
[Vibration Perception Level 1]
Bado did not know why he could "see" the living room through walls, but for now, he focused his attention back on the conversation in the living room.
This time, he heard the content clearly.
"You can’t do this!" The old Mage’s eyes widened, his beard quivering with anger, seemed ready to pounce for a brawl at any moment, "They fought desperately against the Giant Dragon for the Mountains, narrowly surviving, they need rest now, it’s unreasonable to be driven away like criminals!"
The well-dressed dwarf across remained unfazed.
He merely frowned slightly, his voice steady with officialdom, "Sir, I understand your thoughts. I deeply sympathize and respect Bado sir and his warriors’ plight. But these matters are beyond my control. Parasites cannot remain in rear cities, require centralized management, this is the Mountain Council’s latest directive, I’m just executing orders, please don’t make it difficult for me."
"No one can take them before they’ve recovered!" The old Mage stood firm, "If you can, call in the army, see if they dare to act against us!"
This finally brought difficulty to the dwarf officer’s expression.
After all, Bado is a dwarf hero, highly esteemed in the army.
To have the army arrest them, it’s uncertain whether the army would follow orders.
Executing orders might be fine, but if defiance occurs... things could escalate, none benefit.
Just as the official hesitated whether to persuade further, the room door opened.
"Bado! You’re finally awake!" The old Mage’s anger vanished instantly, replaced by joy.
Bado skipped the pleasantries, leaned on the door frame, directly asked, "How long have I slept? Why has it reached forced control of parasites already?"
"Two days."
"Two days?" Bado furrowed his brow, "How did it escalate so quickly?"
"Seems another clan member was assassinated." The old Mage snorted and said.
Bado only felt a headache.
He recalled the Northern Territory’s war, the Empire’s self-destructive behavior of ostracizing parasites still vivid.
Too stringent control of parasites is obviously unwise, even he understands this.
He couldn’t fathom how those shrewd clan leaders, with a precedent, passed such conflict-igniting plans in just a few days.
As commonly, a directive of this level required back-and-forths in the Clan Council to implement, how was this so efficient now?
And all moving towards triggering conflict.
Bado vaguely sensed something amiss, planning to investigate.
He approached the official, spoke plainly, "I’m planning to return to the Forge City, will you stop me?"
"If you’re returning, no one can prevent you, just... just..." Faced with awake Bado, the previously unyielding official could only show a negotiating expression, "Sir, hoping you’ll allow us to send a team to ’escort’ you back. What do you think...?"
"Whatever."
Saying this, Bado stepped aside, avoiding a sagging candle tray overhead due to age, like he foresaw it.
