Mushroom Lord in the Underground City

Chapter 828 - 813: Unstoppable

Chapter 828: Chapter 813: Unstoppable

A shattered Longsword drew an arc across the sky and finally nailed itself into the stone slabs, the hilt still trembling, firelight reflected on the blade and on Shi Wu’s upturned face.

Amid a heap of fallen Demon Race and human corpses, Shi Wu looked up at the sky: "Master..."

Up in the sky hung two pure black spheres—that was the sealed Number Ten and the Sword Saint.

The Demon King, who possessed the [Undying] Skills, naturally knew very well how to deal with these Mushroom Race that could revive over and over again.

Farther away, with a thunderous boom, a small mushroom cloud shot up into the sky—No. 9, who had been getting beaten non-stop, finally reached his limit and blew himself up, filled with grief and rage.

Covered in wounds yet still able to move, the Abyss Beast walked out of the explosion.

Looking at the Imperial Army relentlessly pushing forward in the near distance, Shi Wu could only grit his teeth and withdraw in the end.

The inner city’s defensive Shield was broken, but quite a few Magic Towers still remained; right now they could only rely on those Magic Towers for their final stand.

After Shi Wu left, a beast’s hoof stepped down onto the blood-soaked avenue.

Sigmund sat astride his War Beast; with a lift of his hand, the blood all around was slowly raised and gathered into countless weapons, floating around him.

"Keep advancing. Don’t leave any survivors."

With his order, Demon Race soldiers stepped on the corpses on the ground, howling madly as they pressed toward the inner city.

Thud—!

Just then, a dull boom echoed from far away. Following the source of the sound, Sigmund saw a great plume of dust rising in an area at the junction between inner and outer city.

Sigmund felt a bit puzzled; he hadn’t sensed any Magic Power fluctuations from that direction, and visually it didn’t look like a Puki Self-Destruction either.

In fact, by the late stage of the Battle of Oath City, only a bunch of cannon-fodder Puki were left; they couldn’t produce any big explosions anymore.

That giant Puki’s Self-Destruction just now should have been its final performance.

Only...

What on earth kicked up that dust?

Despite his doubts, Sigmund still advanced along with the army. After all, in the Oath City as it stood now, as long as he was a bit wary of that female Hero’s hidden shots, there was nothing left that could threaten him.

Thud—!

He hadn’t gone much farther when another identical boom rang out, and this time the position was a bit farther outward.

Sigmund looked that way, frowning—that spot... the ones under his command who were charging fastest should have just about reached that area.

Thud—thud—thud—

Heavy booms came one after another, getting closer and closer, the rhythm faster and faster, giving Sigmund the illusion that some invisible giant was striding straight toward him.

He cautiously packed hundreds of Blood Martial weapons densely around himself, scarlet eyes locked dead ahead in the direction of the continual booming.

THUD—!!!

Another massive boom—several houses diagonally across the street in front came crashing down.

Drip.

Something fell onto his face. Sigmund wiped it with his hand—it was a drop of blood rain mixed with shredded meat.

The dust ahead suddenly tore open a huge gap, and a figure burst out from within.

That figure was so fast that Sigmund couldn’t even see if it was man or beast; in that split second, he could only rely on his years of battle-honed instinct to spin the Blood Martial around his body and shove them forward.

Thud—!

Hundreds of Blood Martial shattered into a storm of Blood Crystal, yet still failed to stop the incoming blow.

The attack struck his waist with irresistible force; in that instant, he finally saw clearly the weapon that had caused such terrifying impacts—

A ragged, beat-up Magic Staff?!

The next moment, Sigmund was smashed flying like a cannonball, crashing through more than ten buildings in a row before disappearing from sight, while the mighty War Beast beneath him, merely hit by the aftermath of the attack, was crushed into pulp on the spot, splattering flesh all over the street.

After the single strike, Link stopped moving for the first time, glancing with some doubt toward the direction Sigmund had flown.

Fighting his way here, he had gradually gotten used to the Power of his own body.

But he’d been charging too fast, with too many enemies in front of him, leaving him no time to carefully inspect every enemy’s status panel.

It was just that the feel of that enemy just now had been somewhat different. After taking his smack, the guy hadn’t burst into blood mist like the other Demon Race; he might not be completely dead.

Link wondered if that might have been someone important among the Demon Race. Should he chase him down and finish the job with another whack?

Just as Link hesitated, a Puki popped up from a patch of Fungal Mat at the street corner.

The Puki extended a tentacle and pointed toward outside the city.

Fighting all the way here, Link now understood that these Puki were on humanity’s side; he’d even mistakenly killed one when he first set out.

After he started attacking the Demon Race, these Puki would pop up from the Fungal Mat from time to time, pointing him toward where the Demon Race clustered the most.

It felt kind of weird, but this wasn’t the time to get hung up on such details. Looking at the burning city, he had to hurry... hurry up and slaughter every last one of these beasts!

Since the Puki had already pointed the way, Link stopped hesitating, and, following the guidance, charged toward the city outskirts.

As for that Demon Race with the different feel just now—he’d smashed him so hard the guy was gone from sight in one hit, maybe he wasn’t that important anyway.

Amid the distant ruins.

Dragging his grievously wounded, dying body, Sigmund tried to stand up again.

Blood drenched his body. There was no fear in his eyes, only sheer rage and unwillingness.

"What... kind of joke is this!"

"I am Sigmund! A Duke of the Empire!"

"To be casually crushed like an ant—this sort of... this sort of thing! I will never accept it!"

His flesh was necrotic, bones shattered to pieces; Sigmund fell again and again, yet no matter how many times, he kept trying.

If his body couldn’t get up on its own, then he would use [Blood Manipulation] to hoist this broken shell upright like a Puppet on strings. Even though every movement brought piercing agony, Sigmund still forced his body, bit by bit, to walk outward.

He didn’t know whether he was heading back to join the fight again or retreating outside the city for treatment; he only knew that he would not lie here in this rubble, becoming a lamb to be slaughtered.

Puki—

A mycelium tentacle stretched out from the pile of rubble, hooked around Sigmund’s ankle, and tugged.

Like kicking away an old man’s crutch, Sigmund crashed heavily to the ground once more.

"Uaaahhhh!"

With a roar of fury, Sigmund flung out a Blood Blade, slicing the ambushing Puki clean in half.

After all, it was just a cannon-fodder Puki; even though Sigmund was already at death’s door, he was still a dying Lord Level.

It was just that, after this fall, it became even harder for Sigmund to stand again.

As he gritted his teeth against the agony lancing through his entire body and tried over and over, a rustling sound rose from all around.

Hearing it, Sigmund forced his head to turn.

In the ruins, he saw several strands of Mycelium.

Those pale filaments twisted and writhed, multiplying without end, slowly seeping out from beneath collapsed walls, between shattered stones, out of every crack and crevice, like a white tide pouring in from all directions to envelop him.

Sigmund realized what was about to happen. At last, terror surfaced in his eyes.

"No... no!"

"Get away!"

With a hoarse shout of rage, blood surged through the ruins as the Blood Race Duke made his final, hopeless struggle.

On the other side, a section of the outer city wall collapsed with a thunderous crash, dozens of Demon Race on the wall screaming as they tumbled down into the wreckage.

In the dust, Link stood alone before the entire Empire Army, one hand clutching the severed head of some unlucky horned demon, the other holding that already battered Magic Staff.

After a quick sweep of the army in front of him, he raised his head to look at the most conspicuous figures in the sky—the Demon King and Prince Darean.

At the same time, the Demon King also looked his way: "Long time no see, Link."
