Chapter 856 -841: True Form
Suspended in midair, Number Ten was bound by the Light Prison, unable to break free.
Ever since it obtained [Ultimate Magic Guide], its progress had been skyrocketing, and its control over Magic data had improved drastically compared to the battle at Oath City, yet that still couldn’t make up for the hundreds of years of accumulation between it and the Demon King.
Even so, in order to deal with Number Ten, the radiant Magic Power within the Demon King’s body dimmed a bit more.
On the other side, Link likewise failed to turn the tide of defeat just because he now had Shi Wu’s [Extreme Sword].
In terms of pure experience, the amnesiac Link couldn’t compare to Elvyn, and was even slightly inferior to Shi Wu.
However, unlike the Sword Saint and Shi Wu, the sword had never been the only source of his strength.
The clash of steel rang on without pause; the longsword Link had taken from Darean during the battle at Oath City was already covered in cracks.
This too was a result of the Sword Saint’s deliberate intent.
In yet another exchange, the Treasure Sword finally reached its limit and shattered with a crisp snap.
The Sword Saint, who had been spinning and whirling, forcefully braked, and lunged at Link together with Shi Wu, giving him no chance to grab another weapon from the battlefield.
Yet Link didn’t go to pick up any of the swords scattered across the field.
Facing the man and the mushroom charging him, he brought his hands together as a sword, surging Power roaring through his body.
In Lin Jun’s field of view, Link’s Soul Cloak began to billow, and his already freakishly high Attributes on the panel suddenly spiked yet another notch.
The sword blades slashed toward Link’s arm, cutting open skin and biting deep into flesh, but that was all they managed.
Link’s arm, jammed with five sword blades, swept unstoppably toward the Sword Saint and Shi Wu, who had no way left to dodge.
The situation flipped in an instant. At that desperate moment, Elvyn suddenly twisted his mushroom body, wrenching off his already-split buttocks, and at the same time, Moonlight flared beneath his now-detached feet.
The half of his body he had voluntarily severed landed on Moonlight, then rammed butt-first into Shi Wu’s face, who was one step behind, blasting the unsuspecting disciple back into the army ranks.
As for the Sword Saint himself, the instant he was brushed by Link’s hand-sword, he was slapped into countless fragments that scattered through the air.
At this point, there was no longer any force on the ravaged battlefield capable of holding the two of them back.
The Demon King unfolded Ah Huang in his hand; countless souls of the dead—whether common soldiers or powerhouses like Alama—were irresistibly sucked by an invisible storm into the book, turning into one page after another.
To the Demon King, Ah Huang wasn’t strictly necessary, but having it really saved a lot of trouble. After all, as a substitute, the Coffin was much bulkier than Ah Huang and not as sturdy.
However, not all souls were drawn into the book like that.
Even with the Yellow-covered Book exerting all its strength, Number Ten’s soul was like an immovable boulder that could not be blown away, sinking straight to where it was meant to go.
Elvyn’s soul also wasn’t pulled in as easily as the others; in the soul storm it was jerked about unsteadily, as if tethered by a rope.
But in the end, that “rope” still snapped, and Elvyn’s soul sank into the book’s spine, so Delicious that the Yellow-covered Book couldn’t help but give a little shudder.
Link glanced at Eco, who was standing guard before the grievously wounded and unconscious Shi Wu, and was about to completely finish what he had started in the previous battle, when the Demon King stopped him.
The Demon King looked up at the lightning flickering once more at the ceiling of the cavern; the sealing effect of [Honesty] on the Underground City’s thunder wouldn’t hold for much longer.
“They no longer have the strength to stop us. Don’t waste any more time here.”
Though Link had just enjoyed a good fight, he hadn’t forgotten the real goal of this surprise attack.
He exhaled, then pulled out the sword blades wedged in his arm one by one, and went after the Demon King.
They butchered their way through the three races’ army, passed through several caverns in a row without further obstruction, drawing ever closer to Lin Jun’s true body.
Until finally, at the last stretch of distance, they were blocked by a thick wall of Mycelium.
No, not a wall—this huge lump of Mycelium actually twitched before Link and the Demon King.
[Name: No. 7]
[Skills: Leviathan, Self-Destruction Level 10]
Just two simple Skills, and their intent was self-evident.
Right then, a Voice Puki popped out of the Fungal Mat beside them.
That disgusting voice once more echoed through the cavern, though this time its tone sounded noticeably more tactful.
“You two, you’re really impressive! How about… we call it a day here?”
“I’ve lost quite a bit of combat power, and you two have spent a lot of Magic Power and Physical Strength; forcing your way in here is risky too, isn’t it?”
“How about we pause the war for now and fight again after we’ve rested up?”
The Demon King ignored Lin Jun and instead pointed at the solid mushroom wall that No. 7 had become, speaking again: “Chaos Unknown.”
Crammed so tight it was a little uncomfortable yet never forgetting the boss’s orders and ready to Self-Destruct at any time, No. 7’s consciousness suddenly sank into a fog of Chaos, as if it had forgotten everything. It felt nothing at all, not even as someone dug through its massive body.
“Seriously, that Honesty effect of yours is way too cheap, isn’t it?” The Voice Puki’s tone completely changed, squirming as it tried to catch up with the two who kept digging deeper. “Wait, we can still talk this out! Didn’t we say we could cooperate? There’s no need for this fight-to-the-death stuff, right?”
The Voice Puki’s voice was soon left far behind. It wasn’t long before the Demon King and Link dug through the still-unconscious No. 7 and arrived at the deepest cavern of Pujie Dungeon.
Puki—Puki—
Countless Royal Guard Puki of various sizes turned around; the S-Class Demon Crystals embedded in their bodies shone brilliantly under the cavern’s Fluorescence.
The Skills panels of these Puki were absurdly long, making Link’s eyelids twitch. If not for their low base Attributes, they would have been a huge hassle.
From the formation of these Royal Guard Puki, it was easy to see that they were encircling the massive Mushroom Throne at the center of the cavern.
Link followed the Throne up with his gaze; at first glance he saw nothing, and only after looking more carefully did he notice that there seemed to be something on it.
“Is that… a mushroom?”
A completely ordinary Green Mushroom; if not for its panel that could be pulled open, Link might have overlooked it entirely.
To further confirm, he opened that mushroom’s panel.
In an instant, his entire field of vision was blocked by the panel. Skills crowded densely across it, numberless, as though it contained everything under the sun.
Afraid of leaving an opening because of the panel’s interference, Link could only hurriedly shut it.
Beside him, the Demon King also seemed surprised that his opponent’s true body was such an unmoving little mushroom, his expression a bit strange.
Just then, Lin Jun’s Telepathy sounded in their minds.
“Um… can we still make peace?”
The Demon King gave no response. He merely drew a bit more of his less-than-half-full Magic Power out of his body, condensing it into a streak of light in his palm.
When peace talks failed, Lin Jun’s consciousness suddenly turned Frenzy.
“You two are pushing this mushroom too far!”
The entire cavern trembled. Countless Mycelium surged up from the ground, pouring toward that unremarkable Green Mushroom on the Throne.
“Do you really think victory is already in the bag? Do you really think I’m some weakling?”
By the end, it was no longer Telepathy but a chorus emanating from the bellies of every Royal Guard Puki in the chamber.
There were male and female, old and young voices; unlike the sticky, disgusting tone of the Voice Puki, this chorus was even more eerie.
In the end, a giant formed of layer upon layer of Entanglement Mycelium, with Royal Guard Puki fused into it, stood before the Demon King and Link. Its mushroom body was enormous, its tentacles twined like dead branches, and ghostly lights flickered among the spots on its cap.
“Roar—!”
The inhuman bellow shook dust from the cavern walls.
Magic Power even greater than that of the Demon King gathered in the Fungus Giant’s hands, condensing into a silently spinning orb of Magic light.
“Die!” That overlapping voice poured out from the Royal Guard Puki fused into the giant’s body. “I am the Justice that cannot lose!”
…
For some reason, Link suddenly had the illusion that he was saving the world.
