Chapter 338: Chapter 91: Adjutant’s Assessment
Robson released his hand.
The Soldier looked at his own hand, then at the notched sword, seemingly in disbelief. He placed his hand on the blade again, but this time, his finger was cut, leaving a bloody mark.
The Soldier looked at Robson in confusion.
"Feel the flow of that aura from before and try again," Robson said.
Hearing Robson’s words, the Soldier nodded and carefully recalled the sensation his body had felt in that instant.
He tried once more, and a spark erupted between his hand and the sword.
Then, Robson had someone hand the Soldier an Extraordinary Bow.
This Soldier had been upgraded from a Tier 6 Frankish Watcher; the Extraordinary Bow was already within his field of expertise.
As he drew the bow, the aura in his body flowed. His Battle Aura circulated on its own, as if he were born knowing how to use it to nock and fire an arrow.
Seeing this, Robson nodded.
’It seems these Soldiers can expertly use Battle Aura within their own specializations. If they cross into another discipline, they’ll need some time to practice.’
He didn’t continue observing and walked directly to the next Soldier.
Seeing the commander’s shocked expression, the Soldier was filled with confusion.
"Commander, what’s with that look?" He was less formal with Ais. After all, they had all clawed their way up from the same place and had known each other for a long time.
"You... you just now, you really used Battle Aura! Just like that," Ais said, stunned.
’Is it... is it really a divine miracle?’
......
The awakening ceremony didn’t last long, not even an hour.
Robson became more and more practiced with each one, and Falan followed behind him, desperate to understand what was happening.
Falan could understand the guidance techniques and so on. The one thing he couldn’t figure out was where the soldiers’ initial burst of Battle Aura came from.
’Could it be the Magical Beast Meat from yesterday? But that’s impossible. This group wasn’t the only one who ate it.’
’Besides, trying to awaken Battle Aura just by relying on the amount contained in Magical Beast Meat? Forget the paltry amount in low-tier meat—even High-Tier Magical Beast Meat wouldn’t be enough!’
In the end, Falan arrived at the same thought as Ais.
’Could it be? Is there really a chosen one?’
It wasn’t just Falan who was confused; the newly awakened Soldiers were all more or less bewildered.
Robson deliberately didn’t explain any of this. He simply summoned the first two Extraordinary Soldiers and began teaching them how to apply their Battle Aura.
The Soldiers had no choice but to ask Ais, but he didn’t understand either. All he could do was repeat the explanation Robson had given him earlier: that it was a gift from the gods.
Unexpectedly, this explanation received the soldiers’ unanimous approval.
This had to do with the prestige Robson held within the army.
Because Robson treated his Soldiers well, they always won their battles, and this was compounded by Robson’s own continuous propaganda. As a result, his prestige remained consistently high.
Everyone felt that connecting the great Lord Robson with the Lord of Dawn was perfectly reasonable.
Otherwise, how could Lord Robson have led three hundred Peasant soldiers this far?
One by one, they all chimed in, convincing themselves and each other. By the end, even Ais felt that it all made perfect sense—the logic was completely sound.
Although Robson didn’t participate in the discussion, he overheard most of what they were saying.
They came up with many clever angles Robson himself would never have thought of. ’Indeed, the masses have a wisdom all their own.’
Once everyone had finished their awakening, the surrounding mist of Battle Aura gradually dissipated.
Outside, a large number of Soldiers had already gathered, all curious about what had just happened.
People love to show off. As soon as they were dismissed, the newly awakened Soldiers excitedly ran to their old friends and relatives to flaunt their newfound power.
In an instant, the entire camp erupted. Everyone now knew about the Extraordinary Soldiers.
......
Robson neither supported nor opposed the commotion outside the camp.
Robson knew that as the originator of the lie, his answer would be the most authoritative. Therefore, he couldn’t step in to resolve their confusion.
After all, the more he explained, the bigger the loopholes would become. When an authority contradicts themselves, the lie can no longer be maintained. It was better to trust in the wisdom of the masses.
The Soldiers left, but Ais and Mage Falan remained.
Robson ordered a Soldier to hand a book to Ais, who looked at Robson with a puzzled expression.
"Next, I want you to create separate lists for all the soldiers who were blessed by the gods. I’ll give you the names tonight.
There need to be separate rosters for Archers, Infantry, and Cavalry.
Also, select fifteen men from among the Extraordinary Soldiers and assign them to Falan. This selected group will have their military honors increased by one rank," Robson said.
"Yes, sir," Ais nodded.
This group of Soldiers was the test subjects Robson had selected.
The training materials Robson had compiled served three purposes simultaneously: teaching literacy, instructing on tactics, and promoting the glorious image of Lord Robson himself.
Although Robson himself didn’t foresee any major problems, running a pilot test before full implementation was his standard practice.
As for listing out the Extraordinary Soldiers, that was for the future construction of his domain.
After all, Robson’s domain was located at the foot of the Demon Beast Mountain Range. Such a prime location couldn’t be wasted; it had to be developed in the future.
Even if it couldn’t be turned into an industry, at the very least, Lord Robson’s daily supplies and the resources needed to upgrade Tier Seven Soldiers had to be secured.
Moreover, the entire region beyond the pass had not yet reached a time of peace.
Following the Beastmen’s usual tactics, the region beyond the pass was surely teeming with goblins and Kobolds right now.
The hidden threat these lurking creatures posed to humanity was on the same level as the Beastmen on the main battlefield.
In the Frank Kingdom, there was even a saying about the "Pioneering Month." Only a noble who survived the first month of developing new lands was considered a true noble.
The reason for this was that many nobles were harassed by these Beastmen during the initial pioneering phase, leading to the collapse of their domains.
The lucky ones could flee to a powerful neighboring territory for protection. The unlucky ones might just die at the hands of the Beastmen.
This was also why Robson had chosen to make concessions when making demands of those southern nobles.
One had to remember, the south of Ehrlichland was where Robson’s final battle with the Beastmen had taken place, and he had made no effort to clean up the routed Beastmen forces.
The Beastmen over there weren’t just simple Kobolds and goblins. There were also Gray Dwarves, Gnolls, and even true Beastmen...
The consequences weren’t apparent yet because Robson had only just left.
If there was no external intervention, sooner or later, those southern nobles would come begging Lord Robson to increase the number of slots for the Military Commission’s Standing Army.
Of course, if they stubbornly held out, Robson had other methods.
Without outside help, there would undoubtedly be a large number of nobles in Sri County unable to defend their fiefs.
At that point, it would be perfectly natural for Lord Robson to step in and take over.
