Chapter 340 - 93: Level 6 Mage Lord Robson

Chapter 340: Chapter 93: Level 6 Mage, Lord Robson

Robson walked forward with Gerard. Seeing Robson arrive, the mages respectfully bowed.

"Lord Viscount, now that we’ve arrived in the fief, when can we expect our Mage Towers to be built?

As you know, without a Mage Tower, it is very difficult for us to conduct our Magic research.

And another thing, about our Magic research..." Robson had just stepped forward when he was accosted by a middle-aged, bushy-bearded mage.

’Robson hadn’t expected this. He hadn’t even opened his mouth, and they were already starting trouble.’

’Mage Towers? In the Frank Kingdom, you generally have to be an Advanced Mage or a Magic Master to be granted one.’

’There were only two Advanced Mages in the entire fief: Master Kosen and himself.’

’They had to know that.’

The moment the bushy-bearded mage spoke, Robson could feel the eyes of every other mage turn to him.

’It seemed he’d been too lenient with them.’

"And you are, sir?" Robson didn’t take the bait. ’Never let the other person set the pace of the conversation.’

"Cross... What does that have to do with anything? Lord, a Mage’s research always comes first. Perhaps you’re not aware, but I can enlighten you. The Edward family..."

Heedless of Robson’s reaction, Cross launched into a long-winded speech.

Robson was taken aback. ’Has this man been cooped up in a Mage Tower so long he’s lost his mind, or is he just that arrogant?’

’He might as well have called Robson an ignorant bumpkin who didn’t know a thing.’

’Did he really mistake Lord Robson for some country bumpkin of a lord?’

"Sir, I must interrupt," Robson said, cutting Cross off.

"May I ask, who sent you and your colleagues here?" Robson asked.

"Ah? It was Lord Edward. And I heard it was at the direction of Marquis Oscillate.

What does that have to do with anything?" Cross asked.

"Some of you are from the Edward family, and some are from the Fengman Clan.

But regardless of who sent you, I recall clearly that Marquis Oscillate and Count Valentino placed all of you under my charge. You are now my people.

Is that not correct?" Robson countered, looking at Cross.

Cross froze for a moment, then nodded. He tried to steer the conversation back to his original point, but Robson cut him off again before he could even speak.

"And as my people, you are expected to obey my commands. Is that not also correct?" Robson asked.

Cross now realized he had walked right into Robson’s tempo. Faced with the overbearing lord, he had no choice but to nod again.

"If you are to obey my commands, then what is all this?

I gave a clear order: everyone in this fief is to dedicate themselves to its construction. So what are you doing?" Robson’s gaze swept over them, his voice sharp.

’Sometimes, you just couldn’t afford to be pleasant. This was one of those times.’

After Robson’s rebuke, some of the mages began to mutter amongst themselves.

"My Lord, Mages are not peasants. How can you expect us to do manual labor? Our value is much greater. For instance..."

"For instance, using Magic to clear a field of stone.

This is the Frank Kingdom. We value pragmatism above all else. You say you cannot do this work, yet I myself am about to join in the construction.

I assume you are aware of my station. Are you more distinguished than I? As for value, right now, nothing is more valuable than building this fief."

At Robson’s words, not only Cross, but also the nearby Ais and Gerard were stunned.

While it was true that nobles in the Frank Kingdom often participated in labor, this was typically limited to the minor aristocracy.

Robson was a Viscount, and no ordinary one at that.

The fiancé of Earl Fengman and a confidant of Marquis Oscillate—his standing made him more distinguished than even some of the less powerful high nobles.

"But... my Lord, you are not a Mage. I mean, I could be of use elsewhere..."

Before Cross could finish, an aura of Magic flared to life around Robson.

The crowd was stunned once more.

Robson had rarely used his Magic before; aside from Kosen and a few others, almost no one had ever seen him cast a spell.

It was only then that everyone realized their Lord was a Tier Six Mage.

Cross’s face flushed crimson. It was an awkward position to be in; every one of his excuses for avoiding work had just been shot down.

"I, too, am a Mage. That is precisely why I am giving you these orders.

I ask you to trust that I have my reasons for everything I do.

If any of you remain unconvinced, you need only say so. I will personally see you to Fengman City. I will even have Valentino dispatch troops to escort you back to the south, back to the Edward family.

For me, it is merely a matter of writing a letter," Robson said, his gaze sweeping over the crowd as he enunciated each word.

It was true.

This was, as he had said, the foundational period for the fief—the beginning of everything. The precedents set now would serve as the blueprint for the future.

Robson would rather the fief’s development be slowed than allow this group to ruin its entire atmosphere.

Robson knew all too well the impact that morale had on a team.

’Worst case, I’ll just sell off some more items, use the Gold Coins to buy grain, and hold out until summer to buy new seeds.’

’After all, he still had a batch of war spoils he had yet to deal with.’
