Lord: I Grind EXP with Warband Panel

Chapter 415 - 163: Night Battle

Chapter 415: Chapter 163: Night Battle

At Robson’s command, the long-prepared Tier Five and Tier Six Soldiers immediately loosed their fingers from their taut bowstrings.

WHOOSH—countless arrows once again flew from the human side.

However, unlike the massive volley of arrows from before, this time the arrows were sparse, each flying toward its own target.

.....

On the city walls, Chief Liete was still anxiously awaiting news.

He saw several figures running from the distance.

With his Extraordinary vision, Chief Liete could just barely make out the distant figures.

’Aren’t those my own Centaur Shooters?’

’So soon?’

Chief Liete was stunned.

’Seeing them fleeing in such disarray, they must have been defeated.’

’But how long have they been gone? It’s only been a few hours, and they’re already back?’

In Chief Liete’s mind, even if they couldn’t win, they should have at least been able to hold the enemy off for a while.

Chief Liete continued to observe and saw that only a few Centaurs were fleeing back, not the main force.

’Deserters?’

The more Chief Liete thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.

’With only a few Centaurs escaping, it’s impossible that the entire army was wiped out, right?’

"Quick! Bring those men to me!"

.....

"Vistozde! What happened? Why are you back too?"

When Chief Liete went outside the city and saw the blood-soaked Vistozde, his face filled with shock. His heart sank; he knew instantly that something had gone terribly wrong.

Vistozde looked as if he was about to burst into tears.

"Chieftain! These enemies are unbeatable! We have to run, now!" Vistozde exclaimed.

The bloody battle had clearly traumatized Vistozde.

The humans’ marksmanship was beyond anything he could imagine. Before his troops could even get close to the enemy, nearly everyone around him had been killed.

"What?! What do you mean, run? Run where? And the army?"

Chief Liete’s heart sank as he stammered in panic.

"The army is gone! Chieftain, those humans are truly unbeatable!"

"Gone! You’re all that’s left?"

"We’re all that’s left."

Chief Liete stumbled back a few steps in horror.

That was over a thousand elite warriors! A force he had trained for ages, the very foundation of Liete’s power.

’And today, they were just... gone?’

"You bastard! Why didn’t you just die out there!"

Looking at Vistozde, Chief Liete’s heart surged with fury. He sent Vistozde flying several meters with a single punch.

"Guards! Vistozde deserted his post! Drag him away and execute him!"

"Chieftain, the humans will be upon us any moment. We should be focused on how to defend against their attack."

"Chieftain..."

Just as Liete was about to have Vistozde executed to vent his frustration, a group of the tribe’s commanders gathered around Chief Liete to dissuade him.

"Hmph!"

Chief Liete shot Vistozde a vicious glare. He still couldn’t accept the fact that his elite troops had been completely annihilated in less than half a day.

’That was over a thousand elite Centaur warriors!’

’Even if they were outmatched, they could have run, right? How could over a thousand of them be reduced to just these few?’

"Chieftain! Chieftain! It’s bad! The humans are charging!"

Before Chief Liete had much time to think, another Warrior ran up with a report from afar.

Chief Liete looked up at the sky.

’Are they actually planning a night attack?’

.....

The band of Centaur Shooters had not hindered Robson’s advance in the slightest. In fact, you could say Robson’s army had merely formed ranks before the enemy fled.

The surrounding nobles who witnessed this scene were shocked to their very core.

Even Valentino’s jaw dropped at the sight.

As the enemy scattered for their lives, Robson didn’t pause for a moment. He ordered the Soldiers to board the carriages immediately and press their advantage, riding the momentum of this great victory to give chase at once.

"My Lord! Julian City is just ahead!"

Gazing at the sizable city before them, Robson couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement.

This counted as the first battle on the eastern front since leaving his own city.

"Everton, take to the sky."

"I explained everything to you before. You know what to do, right?" Robson asked.

"ROAR!"

With a mighty roar, Everton soared into the sky.

Before the war began, Robson had tested Everton’s military knowledge.

All one could say was that, as expected of a dragon trained by the Third Empire, its repository of knowledge surpassed that of most Officers.

Now, as Everton shot into the sky, he was naturally leading the way for the main army.

"It’s the Lord’s dragon!"

"The dragon has taken to the sky!"

The moment Everton shot into the sky, the Soldiers erupted.

They all knew it was the signal for an attack.

"Valentino, get ready."

"Claude, you follow behind the Fengman Knight Order."

"First Company, prepare to engage. Second Company, guard the rear and prevent us from being encircled."

"Third Company, stand by. Our reinforcements should be arriving soon, but remain vigilant, monitor the battlefield, and watch for the banner signals."

As Robson issued one command after another, the Non-commissioned Officers at his side nodded in affirmation.

Robson drew his Knight’s Sword.

"For the kingdom! For His Majesty! Charge!"

.....

RUMBLE...

The thunder of cavalry hooves echoed across the land.

The goblin camp was already in chaos.

"Quick! Rally! Rally!"

Though he was extremely reluctant, Chief Liete could only rely on the goblins outside the city for now.

It wasn’t that there were no Centaurs left in the city, but after the painful lesson of his army’s total annihilation, Chief Liete wouldn’t dare sacrifice his Centaur Warriors, no matter what.

At least, not now at the very beginning.

"All earth goblins! Form ranks!"

Chief Liete hadn’t expected the humans to actually dare to launch an attack in the middle of the night.

’It should be fine,’ he thought. ’At least, they should be able to hold on for a little while.’

Looking at the earth goblin formation before him, Chief Liete could only console himself with this thought.

The cream of the city’s defenders had left with Chief Moer. Although Chief Liete had sent men after them, it would still take some time for them to return.

’Hold them off!’

A sharp glint appeared in Chief Liete’s eyes.

’As long as I can stall them, I can find a way out of this!’

"Form ranks! Form ranks!"

"Those humans are charging! Get ready! Spears! Ready!"

Chief Liete yelled relentlessly. Fortunately, the brains of earth goblins were a good deal more useful than those of common goblins.

After receiving their orders and making a few adjustments, the earth goblins managed to form a defensive line against a Cavalry charge.

"For the kingdom..."

The distant battle cries grew steadily closer.

Hearing the sheer power in their cries, Chief Liete knew this was no ordinary force.

He glanced back and saw the sky filled with battle aura.

"Extraordinary!"

There were at least five hundred Extraordinary in the distance!

’A force of this size...’

Chief Liete swallowed hard.

’Good thing I didn’t send my kinsmen out,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, they would’ve been completely trampled.’

He looked back at the earth goblins. Not being Extraordinary, they couldn’t sense danger from such a distance and had no idea what was coming for them.

"Quick! Drink the Potions!"

"Drink the Holy Water! Now!"

Chief Liete roared.

To bolster their fighting strength, Chief Liete had distributed Holy Water to the earth goblins—though, of course, only the front ranks received any.

He had no idea if these forces could withstand that horde of madmen.

Chief Liete’s heart was filled with utter dread.
