Chapter 445: Chapter 193: The Human Race’s Most Merciful Lord Robson
A group of thugs under my command, and they even have to pay me? ’Is there really such a good deal in this world?’
Robson waved his hand magnanimously.
"You don’t have to settle for just a quarter. You can keep half."
"I understand the tribe needs to survive the winter, so we’ll treat this as a special case. Under normal circumstances, this tribute would still be required.
Of course, if your tribe runs into trouble, you can continue to keep half, but you must report it to me."
Robson put on a magnanimous air. Anyone who didn’t know the situation would have thought Lord Robson was making a huge sacrifice.
"Yes! Thank you, milord! Thank you, milord!"
Kadama immediately bowed his head to the ground, his mouth full of praise.
"Before, what did those Centaurs make you do? Tell me everything," Robson said.
Kadama didn’t hesitate.
"We had to give them half of the tribe’s newborn livestock each year, and we also had to be ready at any moment to help them build their palaces, repair city walls, and so on...
Sometimes, the Centaur Chief would order us to go with them to the human territories. They were afraid of human arrows, so they needed us to go to the front..."
Kadama reeled everything off like he was reading from a list.
When he finished, even someone with Robson’s fortitude was a little taken aback.
’And they say the Human Race is the civilized one? When it comes to exploitation, you really have to hand it to the Beastmen nobles.’
In response, Robson directly abolished those extreme punishments and also removed many other unreasonable demands.
"Let’s do it this way. From now on, just give me a quarter of your livestock. I won’t use these animals. When your tribe is in trouble, they will be my payment for saving you."
"Understand?" Robson said.
Robson truly didn’t plan on using these livestock.
’However, the offspring those livestock produced... well, that was another story.’
Robson’s methods were already so much better than those of the Centaur lords that Chief Kadama was moved to the brink of tears.
’If we had known human lords were this good, we would have defected to the Human Race long ago.’
"We understand! Of course, we understand!" Chief Kadama bowed and nodded.
Then, Robson turned and had his men drag the Centaurs forward, placing them before Chief Kadama.
"These fellows are all yours now," Robson said with a smile.
"You should know what to do with them, right?"
Wanting these Gnolls to truly pledge their loyalty to him and attack the other Royal Families of the Beastman Empire required a first step: freeing them from their old mindset. How to free them? By having them personally cut down their oppressors, of course. Once the fury in the Gnolls’ hearts was unleashed, they would naturally follow Robson—and could only follow Robson.
Chief Kadama swallowed hard. It was the first time he had ever seen these high-and-mighty Centaurs in such a pathetic state.
With limbs hacked off by the humans, they were covered in blood and screaming in agony.
’What’s so brave about them? Turns out they weren’t brave at all. In the face of humans, all they could do was scream.’
Kadama immediately judged this group of Centaurs by the law of the jungle that ruled the grasslands.
’The Centaurs are inferior to the humans!’
With that thought, Chief Kadama no longer hesitated and snatched up his axe.
At that moment, his eyes fell upon the leader, Tarren, who was also staring at him with a look of disbelief.
Chief Kadama raised the great axe. With a swift swing, the head of the leader Tarren rolled directly in front of the assembled Gnolls.
Everyone started murmuring amongst themselves.
Chief Kadama turned to face the crowd of Gnolls.
"Warriors! These Centaurs humiliated us, oppressed us, and looked down on us!"
"Today, those days are over! We will show them the might of us Gnolls!"
"Follow me! Follow this human lord!" Chief Kadama roared.
"Now, who wants to take a Centaur’s head as a souvenir?"
The Jackal Wolfman Warriors looked at each other, unsure of what was happening.
But, killing Centaurs!
The words shocked everyone present. ’We can kill Centaurs?’
"I’ll do it! My wife and children were slaughtered by these Centaurs! Let me do it!"
The Centaurs had committed many evil deeds. Given the chance to kick them while they were down, someone immediately stepped forward.
"Me too!"
"And me!"
The Gnolls’ fury was instantly ignited, and the scene erupted into a clamor.
Ding! A Tier Two Jackal Wolfman Warrior has joined your troops...
Ding! ...
Robson immediately opened his panel.
’This is what I was waiting for.’
Robson had only learned that the Mount & Blade panel could recruit non-human troops after he successfully recruited five hundred Bear Race warriors.
Those five hundred Bear Race warriors were the ones Chief Moer had promised him, warriors who would fight for him long-term.
However, the Mount & Blade panel couldn’t seem to recruit Kobolds or goblins.
Robson figured it was probably because they were too weak. Excluding Extraordinary beings, the strongest he had encountered so far weren’t even Tier Three.
Robson opened the Gnoll panel.
Hmm?
On the Gnoll panel, the most eye-catching thing was their experience bar.
Robson had long since confirmed that the experience required for promotion differed between races.
But for Gnolls, it only took twenty experience points to go from Tier One to Tier Two, fifty from Tier Two to Tier Three, one hundred from Tier Three to Tier Four, and three hundred from Tier Four to Tier Five.
And that was it. The highest a Gnoll could reach was Tier Five, a Gnoll Leader.
’This little experience? Isn’t that too low?’
Robson was baffled. Compared to humans, this was several times less.
However, the low experience cost came with a price. Besides the penalty of capping out at Tier Five, Robson looked it over and found that a Tier Five Gnoll’s combat power was only equivalent to a Tier Four human’s.
’Still, that’s more than enough!’
It was like a Gnoll crash course. Besides, from Robson’s experience, the arm strength of these Gnolls was exceptionally powerful.
He had already thought of the perfect way to use these Gnolls.
Ever since Robson had advanced to the Golden Ninth Tier, the number of Soldiers he could lead had jumped directly from 13,000 to 26,000.
’If he used these slots well, the weak Gnolls could still play a major role...’
After all, in the Frank Kingdom, a single Peasant cost several Gold Coins, but on the Beastman Grassland, Gnolls were everywhere.
After pondering for a moment, Robson came back to his senses.
By the time he exited the panel interface, the group of Centaurs had already been hacked into a bloody pulp by the Jackal Wolfman Warriors.
Correspondingly, on Robson’s panel, dozens of Jackal Wolfman Warriors had already leveled up from Tier Three to Tier Four, or from Tier Two to Tier Three.
Tsk! The speed of it made Robson click his tongue in amazement.
’If my human Soldiers could level up this fast, I’d be able to raise twenty thousand Tier Six Soldiers in no time. What would I have to fear from the Tiger Race then?’
’Lord Robson lays siege to a city, and the Beastman Empire sends just one Tiger Race clan after him? Who are they looking down on? Lord Robson will take on ten of them!’
Of course, this was just a fantasy.
’Once I have twenty-six thousand Tier Six troops, why would I even care about the Tiger Race? I’d definitely sweep through the Demon Beast Mountain Range, have my Soldiers become Extraordinary Soldiers after clearing it, and with twenty-six thousand Extraordinary troops! I, Lord Robson, might even be able to ask Louis III what it feels like to wear a crown.’
