Chapter 492 - 232: Night Raid on the Royal City

Chapter 492: Chapter 232: Night Raid on the Royal City

With Robson’s order given, Bo Yang said nothing more and turned to carry it out.

At that moment, the entire human camp sprang into action.

The soldiers of the First to Fifth Regiments all went into a state of rest. Even the distant Gnolls began to sleep.

The remaining regiments were assigned to create a commotion.

For example, building more bonfires and making noise in the surrounding area, creating the impression that they were setting up camp for a protracted war.

Robson even made special arrangements to guarantee authenticity.

An opponent who would make their soldiers camp outside the city walls was unlikely to be a master strategist.

But he, Lord Robson, had always operated with caution. "Details determine success or failure." This was Lord Robson’s creed.

.....

By midnight, the moon had climbed high into the sky.

Prince Tallo had been staring at the opposing camp all day.

Although the humans held the advantage on the ground, they lacked absolute air superiority.

The Tiger Race people had no shortage of Thunderhawks. One of their three great beast ranches was dedicated to raising them.

In the past few days, the Thunderhawks had been flying back and forth, gathering a great deal of intelligence.

For instance, they learned that the humans were plundering the local lords in the lands of the Tiger Race Royal Court and winning over the Gnolls and Kobolds.

These actions disgusted Prince Tallo. Anyone could see that after Robson’s meddling, the price the Tiger Race Royal Court would have to pay to recover these assets in the future would be anything but small.

For the Tiger Race Royal Court, this was nothing short of structural sabotage.

However, that wasn’t what was troubling Prince Tallo right now.

The matter of the Gnolls, however urgent, could wait. But this human army right before them was an imminent crisis.

Prince Tallo had a premonition: this war between humans and Beastmen was likely to be very different from those in the past!

In the past, there was no Gray Dwarf rebellion on the Beastman Grassland, nor had any human thought of using such a dirty trick as inciting the lesser races against the Royal Family.

If the humans managed to sack the Royal City and slaughter the Tiger Race people, their strength would plummet. It would likely be very difficult for them to ever rise again.

On the Beastman Grassland, the scarce commodity had always been resources, never powerful races.

According to the intelligence from the Thunderhawks, the human forces had finished regrouping today.

The reason the humans hadn’t attacked before was likely because they were waiting for reinforcements.

Now that the human reinforcements had arrived, the Tiger Race Royal City was about to face its true test.

"Your Highness the Regent King!"

Prince Tallo looked toward the person who had arrived. It was Prince Trilman, his younger brother.

Prince Trilman’s army was still forbidden from entering the Royal City. Tallo had to pull some strings just to get Prince Trilman himself inside.

"Well? When do you think those humans will attack?" Prince Tallo asked.

’This younger brother of mine is far more capable in military matters than I am.’

Even after that last defeat, Tallo didn’t think it was his brother’s fault.

Upon hearing this, Prince Trilman’s brow furrowed.

"Is there really no reasoning with the Senate?" Prince Trilman asked.

"If those Tiger Race soldiers can just enter the Royal City, the humans will never be able to break through," Prince Trilman said.

After saying this, the Prince paused. Remembering the insane combat prowess of those humans, he added,

"At least, they won’t be able to charge in so easily."

Prince Tallo shook his head.

"This isn’t just about the Senate."

"There are tens of thousands of troops out there. The Royal City has never had to support so many able-bodied men. Our food, our supplies... we can’t provide enough for all of them," Tallo said.

After days of wrangling with the Senate, Prince Tallo had resigned himself to the situation.

The Senate absolutely refused to let them in, and there was nothing he could do about it.

Trilman fell silent for a moment, then shook his head.

"I don’t know.

If I were the human commander on the other side, I’d already be leading my army to attack the Royal City..." Prince Trilman said.

"Now?" Tallo exclaimed.

"Surely not. The humans need to rest, too," Tallo said, shaking his head.

Hearing this, Prince Trilman gave Tallo a long look and then let out a heavy sigh.

"It’s different. You haven’t faced them. That human army is the elite of the elite.

For them, they can fight whenever they want. All it takes is for their commander to seize the right moment," Prince Trilman said.

Even though he had lost to them, his assessment of that human force was incredibly high.

"In fact, they haven’t charged. The humans are still setting up camp over there.

My guess is they’ll wait until tomorrow, attacking after the soldiers have rested for a night," said Tallo.

This time, Prince Trilman said nothing, only shaking his head.

"Let’s hope so."

Tallo didn’t know what to say to comfort his younger brother.

The last defeat seemed to have shattered his pride.

"Just in case, brother, I’ll go outside the city and make preparations," said Prince Trilman.

Tallo watched Prince Trilman’s retreating figure, then looked toward the distant human camp and sighed inwardly.

In truth, there was one more thing he hadn’t said.

’Even if that human army attacked right now, what could they do?’

’The Senate had argued all day and had only just decided how to reply to the Beastman Emperor.’

’Right now, most of the Royal City was in the Senate’s hands; they couldn’t mobilize its resources.’

’In a tribal Royal Court like this, without resources or benefits to offer, Prince Tallo couldn’t even command the rabble outside the walls.’
