Chapter 503: Chapter 237: After the War (Part 2)
The upper district, the lower district, the commercial district, the military district... that was about it.
Led by a Tiger Race noble, Robson immediately had his army seize control of the major granaries in the Tiger Race Royal City.
Many people were already setting fires and looting the Tiger Race’s granaries.
It was obvious that the other Tiger Race nobles were responsible.
This was why Robson had focused on taking the Tiger Race Royal City as quickly as possible. If he had given them time to react, the granaries would likely be empty by now.
Robson’s eyes widened as he surveyed the Tiger Race’s granaries.
The Tiger Race’s power had only declined in recent months—specifically, after the battle involving the Magic Crystal Cannons.
In the grand history of the Beastman Empire, the Tiger Race had always been considered at least a mid-tier Royal Family. They couldn’t compare to the likes of the Gray Dwarves, the Minotaur Race, or the Two-headed Race, but they were more than a match for the Centaurs.
Besides, the Tiger Race was different from the Centaur Royal Court.
The Centaur Royal Family hadn’t expected the humans attacking from the east to be so fierce and had been wiped out directly. The Centaurs never even had a chance to mobilize for war.
The Tiger Race, however, had learned of the defeat on the front lines and had gathered all the surrounding supplies into the Royal City. The only reason the ranch Robson had plundered earlier was spared was due to its distance.
The Tiger Race warehouses were filled with smoked beef and mutton, along with plenty of fire-leaf vegetables, wheat, and other goods.
The granary district contained a total of twenty storehouses, and half of them were filled to the brim.
Even more impressively, the last two warehouses were filled entirely with Magical Beast Meat.
With this Magical Beast Meat, the Extraordinary Soldiers set to advance tonight wouldn’t need to make a special trip to the ranches to hunt magical beasts. Afterward, they could march straight for Beast Emperor Kemel, saving a significant amount of time.
Of course, Robson had no intention of sparing a single one of the ranches on the Beastman Grassland either.
Robson would be leading the human army to corner the Beastman Emperor, which meant he couldn’t bring the Bloodthirsty Jackal Wolfmen who had joined him.
Once the Bloodthirsty Jackal Wolfmen recovered, he would let them plunder the Tiger Race Royal Court.
For one, he had promised the Gray Dwarf Royal Family that he would withdraw his army from the Tiger Race Royal Court after the war. This way, he could squeeze some extra benefits from the Tiger Race.
For another, he could use this as an opportunity to develop an army of other races within the Tiger Race Royal Court’s territory. After all, the population of lesser races there was far greater than anything the Centaur Clan had.
Given the precarious state of the Beastman Empire, Robson estimated he could definitely continue to profit from the chaos in the future.
’What if the Bloodthirsty Jackal Wolfmen weren’t strong enough?’ The Tiger Race had previously gathered all their able-bodied men outside the city. Now, with their defeat, the entire Tiger Race Royal Court was in a weakened state.
The Bloodthirsty Jackal Wolfmen were also weakened, but after a day or two of rest, they would gradually recover their third-rank combat strength. That would be more than enough to deal with some of the Tiger Race’s straggling soldiers.
Robson had his soldiers take inventory and then left the granaries.
Robson didn’t bother with the residents’ homes in the city. There was undoubtedly a great deal of loot to be had there, but he had to leave some scraps for his men, didn’t he?
Whether the Tiger Race noble was trying to curry favor with Robson or was simply hoping for a reward, it was hard to say.
But as soon as Robson had sorted out the granaries, the noble immediately revealed the location of the Tiger Race’s armory.
Hearing the word ’armory,’ Robson’s eyes lit up. frⅇe
Lord Robson’s men were in desperate need of such things.
Weapons were less of an issue; the real shortage was in armor.
Robson estimated that his first three regiments were likely much stronger than the Beastman Imperial Family’s Standing Army and even the Frank Kingdom’s Royal Standing Army.
After all, his first three regiments were already at the peak of mortal power, with over ninety percent of the soldiers at the sixth rank.
However, Robson still wasn’t entirely confident about a direct, head-on confrontation.
The root cause was their equipment!
The Affleck Domain had been a constant drain on his funds, so how could Robson possibly afford to provide his men with proper sets of equipment?
It wasn’t that they were unequipped, but their weapons and armor were still a far cry from what the Kingdom’s truly elite armies wore.
Only the First Regiment’s equipment was barely up to par.
Robson had been planning to use his merits to acquire more from the Royal Armory upon his return. He also needed to expand Affleck’s production capacity. On that note, news from the rear indicated that Affleck was now running at full capacity, able to produce three sets of armor. However, that was still too slow; the labor force was ultimately too small. But that was a matter to be dealt with after he returned.
Now, on the eve of confronting the Beastman Emperor, obtaining these weapons and armor would strengthen his army and give Robson a bit more confidence.
Robson gave the Tiger Race noble some wealth and promised to spare his family.
This was also Robson’s way of setting a precedent for the other powerful surrounding tribes: if they surrendered, he, Robson, was willing to consider showing mercy.
The Tiger Race noble was immediately overcome with gratitude. He led Robson to the Tiger Race armory, which was located next to the Royal Palace. It was divided into two levels, an upper and a lower. Without the noble’s guidance, Robson might never have found the entrance to the lower level.
The upper level was decent, containing ordinary weapons and a great deal of leather armor—roughly two thousand sets. It wasn’t a huge amount, which suggested most of their stock had already been put to use.
This was perfect. Robson’s army had been fighting for so long that the soldiers’ armor was in tatters. Even some of the blades of the First Regiment’s warriors had grown dull.
This batch of equipment was just what they needed to completely re-outfit the soldiers.
Ultimately, there was nothing truly special on the upper level. The real treasures were all buried underground.
When the underground armory was opened, even Robson’s eyes lit up! The subterranean vault was much smaller than the one above ground, but in terms of quality, everything on the surface combined couldn’t match the value of what was stored below.
There were around three hundred sets of iron armor alone.
Unfortunately, it was all Tiger Race plate mail. However, it could be given to the leaner Gray Rock Bear Race Warriors.
The Gray Rock Bear Race looked enormous, but most of their bulk was actually fat and fur. They were similar in height to the Tiger Race, about 2.5 to 3 meters tall. If they squeezed their fat in, they could barely fit into the Tiger Race Warriors’ armor.
’This is all good stuff!’
Besides the Tiger Race armor, there was also a surprising amount of human plate mail!
It wasn’t a huge amount—only about a hundred sets—and most of it was in poor condition, clearly scavenged from battlefields.
The Tiger Race People must have stripped it from fallen humans. As for why they didn’t melt it down to forge their own armor? The Beastman Empire and the Frank Kingdom had been neighbors for many years and had their own unique relationship. When at war, they were mortal enemies. But during times of peace, they also communicated and traded.
Selling the armor back to humans was far more valuable than melting it down.
Most of these sets of armor bore family crests. Robson even found a dozen sets of enchanted armor!
’We can use this armor for now. After I return to the kingdom, I can return them to their respective families and earn some goodwill. Of course, I could also sell them, but compared to a bit of coin, my political connections are more important to me now.’
There were many other items in the underground armory. Robson, curious about the noble’s identity, learned that his guide was Danton, the Second Elder of the Tiger Race Senate and a member of the Tiger Race Royal Family.
Afterward, Danton also led Robson to plunder the Tiger Race Royal Family’s treasury and their other repositories of wealth.
Logically, the Tiger Race’s treasury shouldn’t have been as valuable as the Centaurs’. While the Tiger Race was powerful, the Centaurs had been accumulating wealth for several centuries.
However, Robson had no idea where the Centaurs had hidden their treasures. In contrast, thanks to his guide’s collaboration, Robson was able to loot the Tiger Race’s treasures almost completely.
At the very least, most of it fell into Robson’s hands. There were only about 60,000 Gold Coins, but there were also many other items—enchanted weapons, jewelry, and the like. All told, even if sold at the lowest market prices, the haul would be worth at least 200,000 Gold Coins.
’Wars of annihilation are truly profitable!’
Staring at the mountain of wealth, Robson made a silent vow. ’Once this business with the Beastmen’s southern invasion is over, I’ll turn the Centaur Royal Family’s lands upside down to find their treasure!’
