Robson, leading the charge at the front, naturally noticed the soldiers and officers running along both flanks.
A glance at the scene confirmed it: the Beastman Wolf Cavalry was in an orderly retreat. The outcome was no longer in question.
Robson looked to his left and right, then raised the Knight’s Sword gifted to him by Earl Wei Man.
“First, Second, and Third Squads, charge with me!”
The First, Second, and Third Squads were comprised of the several hundred Extraordinary Cavalry within the Cavalry Team.
Having spoken, Robson ignored all else and charged forward alone.
The cavalrymen who had been called out immediately fell in behind Robson.
Before long, the empty space behind Robson was filled by the cavalrymen rushing to catch up.
…
“Faster!”
“Get to the battlefield immediately!”
In the distance, a great, dark mass of an army, led by a group of lavender-skinned Beastmen, rapidly advanced.
Chief Auduo, who had remained with the Beastman Infantry, was burning with anxiety.
‘Gall must have lost his mind, insisting on charging out on his own.’
Chief Auduo was hardly one of the Beast Emperor’s core confidants.
The Beast Emperor’s core confidants were mostly from the Madar Palace Defense Army and his Personal Guard.
They were the true elite of the Beastman Empire; the Beast Emperor would never lead such men out to their deaths.
Chief Auduo could only pray that nothing happened to General Gall.
If something did, he had no idea how he would face the Emperor’s wrath.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans.
Just as Chief Auduo was praying, a series of rumbles echoed from the grassland, accompanied by a strange disturbance.
Chief Auduo recognized the rumbling—it was the sound of approaching cavalry.
‘If cavalry is approaching, it’s either General Gall breaking through the human lines and escaping back alone, or the human cavalry has already broken through our Beastman Wolf Cavalry and is coming to send us to meet the Beast God.’
Of course, Chief Auduo was more inclined to believe General Gall was returning victorious, but under the circumstances, a great victory for General Gall seemed unlikely.
Despite this, a sliver of hope remained in Chief Auduo’s heart.
That hope didn’t last long. A few scattered Beastman Wolf Riders came charging down from the hills of the grassland.
They were followed by squads of a few dozen…
‘Gall lost!’
Chief Auduo’s face turned deathly pale.
Realistically, the fact that the Beastman Wolf Cavalry had held out this long was a decent performance. But this was Gall they were talking about.
He had thought Gall’s forces could at least hold on until he arrived on the battlefield.
‘What happened with Gall?’
“Form ranks! Form ranks! All troops, prepare for battle!”
Gall’s defeat was a foregone conclusion, and Chief Auduo knew he had to adapt.
Gall hadn’t listened to reason and lost the battle; Auduo was powerless to turn the tide.
Gall was at fault, but he was a favored general of the Beast Emperor. Auduo still had to save him.
Chief Auduo’s train of thought didn’t last long.
A Warrior who rushed forward reported the truth.
“Gall is dead!”
Chief Auduo could hardly believe what he was hearing.
“General Gall died fighting for the Empire. He’s probably on his way to see the Beast God now, waiting for us.”
‘He’s waiting for *you*, not me!’
Chief Auduo retorted internally. He hadn’t had his fill of living yet.
“How far are the human cavalry from our position?”
“I don’t know. You could send out soldiers to scout.”
“These are Wolf Riders…”
Just as Chief Auduo was about to make use of the “waste”—telling these fleeing Wolf Riders to charge one more time—
the distant rumbling suddenly became as deafening as thunder.
Chief Auduo looked up.
There was no need to send any Wolf Riders to scout. The enemy was already here.
Chief Auduo’s expression filled with terror. ‘This is bad, this is very bad!’
Chief Auduo had only gotten into this unit by pulling strings; he used to be a Civil Servant in the Empire. As for why a Civil Servant was even on the battlefield, it was mainly because losses on the central front were too high. Furthermore, the Beastman Empire lacked a merit-based system for military promotion; one needed noble blood to rise through the ranks.
The Soldiers of this army could be considered the Empire’s elite, but their commanders were not.
“Wayne, I’ve heard of your extraordinary strategic talents. I’m leaving this place in your hands for now.”
Chief Auduo looked at his Personal Guard with a grave expression.
‘Anyway, now that Gall is dead, the Beast Emperor will most likely not spare me. I’d better run while I still can.’
“But, sir, there are only two hundred of them…”
“Hmm?”
Chief Auduo’s expression tensed. He realized the charging army consisted of a mere two hundred men!
‘Two hundred? Did they overextend their pursuit?’
In any case.
The situation was two thousand against two hundred, and he also had several thousand Alien Race Warriors.
‘The advantage is mine!’
“This human army doesn’t look simple. It would be better if I handle this myself.” Chief Auduo’s opportunistic, civil-servant nature immediately surfaced.
Auduo thought that while he might not be a veteran general, fighting two hundred with two thousand was just too easy.
If he could just secure a victory, he might receive a lighter punishment from the Beast Emperor later.
“Form ranks!”
“All troops, move out!”
Chief Auduo didn’t actually know what to do, so he just barked a couple of orders.
Fortunately, the Beastman Army was indeed a first-rate elite force.
Chief Auduo had only given a general idea, and the Officers below immediately began to carry it out.
…
“For the Kingdom! Charge!”
“Victory to Affleck!”
Robson was still at the very front of the charge, leading his two hundred Heavy Armored Extraordinary Cavalry.
On the other side, the Beastman Infantry had already formed their ranks.
Although Chief Auduo was a Civil Servant, he had read a few books on military strategy in his spare time.
To prevent Robson from punching through his lines, he had specifically reinforced the formation in Robson’s path by three layers.
Chief Auduo had expected the enemy cavalry to try and avoid his main force, perhaps striking from the flank or employing some other tactic. He never imagined they would charge straight at him without any hesitation.
Seeing this, Chief Auduo was overjoyed. This was great; it saved him the trouble of figuring out how to stop them.
‘For the glory of the Frank Kingdom!’
In his heart, Robson wasn’t too concerned about the Beastmen arrayed to stop him.
It would indeed be difficult for him to break through the Beastman formation with just a group of cavalry.
‘But who said I was here to charge with my cavalry?’
As the thought crossed his mind, Robson’s body once again began to radiate a powerful battle aura.
The might of a Legendary-Tier warrior stunned Chief Auduo for a moment. His eyes then filled with disbelief.
‘Legendary-Tier!’
In the Frank Kingdom, Legendary-Tier individuals were still relatively normal; the great, powerful families would more or less have a Legendary-Tier master protecting them.
But on the Beastman Grassland, Legendary-Tier warriors were rare. The Magic Resources on the Beastman Grassland were too scarce.
“Wayne, quick, take your men and stop him! I’ll request a commendation for you from the Beast Emperor!”
“Huh? Me?”
Wayne’s expression was strange.
That human had already charged into the Beastman formation and was carving through them as if it were child’s play.
‘If I charge up there,’ he thought, ‘Auduo won’t be requesting a commendation for me from the Beast Emperor…’
“Sir! This is bad, look!”
Wayne was just trying to figure out how to refuse.
Suddenly, another dark, dense line appeared on the grassland, and a new tremor ran through the earth.
