Chapter 542 - 12: Frank. 1st Non-human Army

Chapter 542: Chapter 12: Frank. 1st Non-human Army

While Robson handled logistics, on the other side of the Beastman Grassland...

A grand army, tens of thousands strong, was steadily advancing.

Nowadays on the Beastman Grassland, it was rare to see an army of such a scale.

Emperor Kemal was dead. Over at Madar Mountain, the various Princes were locked in a bitter struggle, leaving the Royalist Faction without a leader.

Furthermore, although King Monroe had been plotted against by his two allies and had lost a significant portion of his elite forces, Kemal was dead nonetheless.

Since the Dark Giants had ultimately been crushed by the human army, Floyd had no time to rally forces against King Monroe for the moment.

King Monroe publicly proclaimed that the one he had killed was a Pseudo-Emperor, and that the true Beast Emperor was being held under house arrest in Madar Palace.

Although everyone knew what had really happened, this narrative still granted the anti-emperor faction sufficient legitimacy.

This resulted in rebellions flaring up everywhere within the Empire after the Beast Emperor’s death.

With powerful enemies at the gates, rebels within the ranks, and their leader dead...

For a time, every race in the Royalist Faction feared for its own survival, so naturally, there were no large-scale troop movements on the Beastman Grassland.

This army marching across the grassland was, without a doubt, Robson’s Alien Race Corps.

.....

Chief Kadama was sitting on a large stone, scribbling on a piece of letter paper. He intermittently scratched his sparsely-furred head with a claw, the picture of struggle.

As the chieftain of one of the first alien races to pledge allegiance to Robson, Chief Kadama naturally received preferential treatment.

The most famous of the alien chieftains under Robson’s command were now Chief Kadama, Chief Mole, and an Earth Goblin, Habag Valley Chief.

Chief Mole’s reputation preceded him, and Habag Valley Chief had fought in every single major battle.

A Gnoll Wolf Rider galloped up to Chief Kadama.

Gnolls had Wolf Cavalry as well, but they couldn’t ride Warg Mounts. They could only ride gray wolves, so their combat effectiveness was limited.

"Chieftain, two more tribes have requested to join us," the Gnoll said.

The troubled expression on Chief Kadama’s face deepened.

This was what had been vexing Chief Kadama most lately.

In the past, he had only been a Jackal Wolfman Chief; he had never imagined that he would one day command an army of thousands.

Robson hadn’t established a proper command structure in the Gnoll army, forcing Chief Kadama to handle many matters personally.

If it were only these ten thousand-odd Soldiers, he could have managed. He and the other few chieftains could have just about handled it by dividing the responsibilities.

The problem was the constant stream of newcomers wanting to join, most of whom had been drawn by the great fame of the Lord Emissary.

Chief Kadama didn’t feel he could turn them away, so he had no choice but to accept them.

"Kadama, this can’t go on!"

A deep, resonant voice rang out.

Chief Kadama turned to see a towering figure—it was Chief Mole.

Chief Mole had also been very busy lately, helping Robson search the Beastman Grassland for races with a natural affinity in order to train a sufficient number of Druids.

"Kadama, the Lord is pressing us again. We need to reach the battlefield at once," Chief Mole said.

"Those newcomers you brought in are trouble. Some of their tribes are constantly stealing cattle and sheep.

The Lord Emissary specifically requested that livestock. How can we let these vagrants squander it?" Chief Mole said.

Ever since Robson set out with his troops to campaign against the Beast Empress, the army of alien races hadn’t been idle.

After resting up, they would get back on the march, following in Robson’s footsteps.

This was mainly because Robson favored a cautious approach; should anything unexpected happen, this army of alien races was his fallback.

By the time Robson met with Marquis Oscillate, the main alien army had, in fact, already reached the Bronze Plains.

However, Robson later issued a new order, telling them to search the surrounding area for livestock like cattle and sheep—anything edible would do.

The soldiers of the alien army didn’t know why Robson needed so much food, but it was an order from the Lord Emissary.

The Emissary said: food!

So, the great alien army began scouring the grasslands. Many tribes even contributed their own livestock, gathering a total of over ten thousand head to be sent to Robson.

And what of anyone who might try to stop them? During this time, any force capable of blocking this alien army was cowering within their city walls, terrified of provoking the veteran human commander.

When Chief Kadama heard that these newcomers had dared to steal and eat the tribute intended for the Lord Emissary, his face flushed with panic.

"How could these people do such a thing?"

"Why didn’t anyone tell me?" Chief Kadama demanded angrily.

Chief Mole shook his head and sighed.

’The Mountain Rock Bear Race is already slow-witted enough,’ he thought. ’I never thought Gnolls would be even worse.’

"Frankly, you should organize some priests to help you manage the army," Chief Mole said.

"I wanted to..."

"But the priests are all very busy lately."

"Busy?" Chief Mole was perplexed.

"What could you possibly be busy with?"

Chief Kadama pulled a book from behind his back.

The book was composed of sheets of letter paper, covered in strange script.

It looked to be a handwritten copy made by a Kobold.

Sheets of letter paper, bound into a book.

"It’s this," Chief Kadama said, his face full of reverence.

"We found this on the body of a human Officer. It records the miracles of the Lord Emissary!" said Chief Kadama.

The book was, surprisingly, *"Affleck’s Adjutant’s Guide."*

Thanks to Robson’s various policies and constant victories, worship of the Emissary was growing ever stronger within the army of alien races.

After the battle at the Tiger Race Royal City, the Gnolls had found this book on a deceased human Officer.

Recently, the priests from the various tribes—their high intellectuals, so to speak—were constantly studying this book, performing comprehensive analyses of the deeds and words of Robson recorded within.

Several different schools of thought had even emerged.

Chief Mole’s face showed astonishment when he heard this.

’The Lord’s miracles?’

Before Chief Mole could examine it closely, a shout suddenly echoed from the distance.

"Chieftain! Chieftain!"

"A Knight from the Lord Emissary requests an audience!"

"The Lord Emissary’s Knight!"

Upon hearing this, Chief Kadama’s face lit up with joy.

But his joy was tinged with anxiety.

’I only have a little over ten thousand head of livestock right now... I wonder if that’s enough.’

’And our marching pace has been far too slow.’

Regardless, the Lord Emissary’s Knight was here, and he had to go and meet him.

Chief Kadama, together with Chief Mole, quickly went to meet a human Knight.

The Knight was already tightly surrounded by a crowd of Jackal Wolfman Chiefs.

Thanks to their past experience fighting side-by-side, and influenced by their Lord’s own attitude, Robson’s Soldiers no longer held any animosity toward these Gnolls, even laughing and joking with them.

"Sir Knight! Sir Knight!"

"Chief Kadama is here."

Kadama squeezed his way out from the crowd of Jackal Wolfman Chiefs.

"Are you Chief Kadama?"

"Yes, that’s me."

"Sir Knight, for what urgent matter has the Lord Emissary summoned me?" Chief Kadama asked.

The Knight pulled a letter from within his tunic.

"These troops behind you are yours?" the Knight asked.

"They are..."

"You’ve got a new name. From now on, you’re the Frank. First Alien Army, understand?" the Knight said.

"Huh?" Chief Kadama was completely baffled.

"When you announce yourselves to outsiders from now on, remember to introduce yourselves this way.

The Lord has sent over a dozen Warriors to help you establish a formal military structure. Just listen to them from now on," the Knight said.

"Huh?"

Chief Kadama’s face turned pale.

’Did I do something wrong?’

Chief Kadama thought Robson was taking away his command.

The work was exhausting, but Chief Kadama had grown to enjoy the feeling of being in charge.

"You haven’t done anything wrong. They’re just here to help you structure the army. You’ll still be in charge of the actual decisions."

"Oh, oh, I see." Chief Kadama breathed a sigh of relief.

"Do you have a map?" the Knight asked.

"Yes, we do, yes."

Chief Kadama ordered someone to bring over a crumpled map.

The Knight studied the map and pointed to a campsite belonging to the Beastman Empire’s Wolf Race.

"Next, you will go to this location. Understood?"

"Understood."

"Get a move on. Don’t keep the Lord waiting."
