Chapter 530 - 248: Pissing Their Pants

Chapter 530: Chapter 248: Pissing Their Pants

Ningshan County, Yang Qi’s hometown.

The winter sun, pale and weak, shone on the relatively smooth concrete road in front of the courtyard gate.

The usually quiet village road was now exceptionally noisy.

A dark mass of no fewer than twenty people had gathered, clearly divided into two opposing groups. The atmosphere was incredibly tense.

Village Chief Yang Dalin stood with several able-bodied men from the village, forming a human wall that firmly blocked the gate.

Yang Dalin, in his early fifties, was a sturdy man with a square jaw. His face was now taut and livid, a vein throbbing on his forehead.

Opposite them, a stout, brutish man of about forty with a buzz cut and a blindingly fake gold chain was spewing profanities. He jabbed a finger almost into Yang Dalin’s nose, spitting as he shouted.

"Yang Dalin! I show you respect by calling you Village Chief, but without that, you’re fucking nothing! Now get the hell out of my way! If I don’t drag that rabid, man-biting dog out and slaughter it today, then my last name isn’t Jiang! You hear me?!"

"That’s right! That damn mutt mauled my dad! It has to die!"

A woman in her thirties, standing next to the man with the buzz cut, chimed in with a shrill voice.

She was wrapped in a cheap, bright red, full-length down jacket. Her face was caked in a thick layer of white powder, her lips painted a vivid, dripping red. She deliberately swayed her hips, attempting to appear sexy, but only managed to exude an air of intense tackiness and vulgarity.

She was Jiang Dafu’s wife, nicknamed "Red-beaked Gull."

Behind the pair stood five or six shifty-looking men, cigarettes dangling from their lips. They were clearly not a respectable crowd. The oldest was in his forties, the youngest in his early twenties. They joined in the jeering, cursing and shoving, trying to pressure Yang Dalin and his men.

"Jiang Dafu, you can stop your damn shouting!"

Yang Dalin stood ramrod straight, not yielding an inch. His voice boomed, "Yang Qi is already on his way back. He said he’ll pay for the medical bills and whatever else is owed—you won’t be shorted a single cent. What do you think you’re doing now, bringing people here to block the gate and cause trouble? You looking for a fight? Want to smash things up? Keep this up, and I’m really calling the police!"

"Call the police? HAHAHAHA!"

Jiang Dafu threw his head back and laughed exaggeratedly, as if he’d just heard the world’s greatest joke. The thugs behind him joined in with jeers.

"Go on, call them! I fucking dare you! Let’s see if the cops arrest the dog or arrest people when they get here! If you don’t call, you’re a son of a bitch!"

Yang Dalin’s face grew even more livid, but for a moment, he was at a loss for words.

There were more of them, and they were the "aggrieved party." If things really got ugly, the villagers would be the ones to suffer.

The men beside him also glared furiously, shouting and pointing at Jiang Dafu’s group, but they were clearly holding back, afraid of the consequences.

Inside the courtyard, Yang Bo’s Mother and a few other women who were close to Grandma had gathered around her. She was sitting on a small stool, and they were whispering words of comfort.

Grandma’s face was pale. She clutched the corner of her shirt, clearly terrified by the commotion outside.

Hu Zi and Leopard flanked Grandma, one on each side. They were in a low crouch, a deep, suppressed growl rumbling in their throats. Their eyes were fixed on the courtyard gate, ready to charge out at any moment.

Shouting, cursing, confrontation—the air was thick with the smell of gunpowder.

「Just then—」

"BEEP BEEP~"

The sharp, clear sound of a car horn cut through the noise, growing louder as it approached.

A black SUV kicked up a small cloud of dust as it sped down the village road toward them.

Its rugged design was unmistakable—it was Yang Qi’s black Jeep Wrangler.

"It’s Uncle Qi’s car."

"Uncle Qi is back!"

A few teenagers who had been watching the spectacle from atop their own courtyard walls clapped their hands and shouted excitedly.

The commotion drew the attention of both confronting parties, who turned in unison to look at the approaching vehicle.

Relief and anticipation flashed in the eyes of Yang Dalin and his men. Jiang Dafu’s gang, meanwhile, stopped their yelling. They eyed the approaching car with a cocky, cold sneer.

Yang Qi slowly pulled over and stopped the car a few meters from the crowd, then killed the engine.

He didn’t get out right away. Through the windshield, his cold gaze swept over the uninvited guests at the gate. His eyes lingered for a moment on Jiang Dafu and his cronies, an imperceptible, frosty glint flashing in their depths.

"CLICK."

The car door unlocked.

A black figure shot out from the passenger-side window like a phantom. It landed lightly on the roof of the car, then used the momentum to leap silently over the courtyard wall and into the yard.

It was Xiaojiu.

Its emerald eyes swept over the scene inside the courtyard. Seeing that Grandma was unharmed, it let out a soft "Meow" as a greeting before leaping onto a low branch of a tree just inside the wall. From its high perch, it looked down coldly at the people outside the gate.

Immediately after, the driver’s side door opened, and Yang Qi stepped out.

He was dressed in simple, dark casual wear. His face was expressionless, so calm it bordered on cold.

He casually shut the car door. The soft "THUMP" sounded exceptionally clear in the suddenly quiet atmosphere.

All eyes focused on him.

"You must be Yang Qi, huh?"

Jiang Dafu was the first to react. He took a step forward, jabbing a thick finger in Yang Qi’s direction from a short distance away. His tone was utterly belligerent, and spittle flew from his mouth, almost spraying Yang Qi in the face.

"Your fucking rabid dog bit my old man! This isn’t over. Medical bills, lost wages, nutritional supplements, compensation for emotional distress... what other fees were there?"

He turned his head to ask a weaselly-looking crony behind him.

"Caregiver fees, and... oh, right, future rehabilitation costs!" the crony hastily added.

Jiang Dafu turned back, still pointing at Yang Qi, spitting as he made his outrageous demand. "Right! You have to pay for all of it! Not a penny less than this amount..."
